Ventura Raceway opens its 2014 season this Saturday night March 8, with a full program of open wheel and stock car racing at its Ventura County Fairgrounds Facility in Ventura California. On that night we begin a new season with a full program of VRA Sprints, Senior Sprints, Dwarf Cars, Hobby Stocks, Sport Compacts, Mod Lites and IMCA Modifieds. We are looking forward to another great season of exciting open wheel and stock car racing. We hope that fans will enjoy the efforts of the drivers, crews and raceway to put on outstanding racing events.

Greg Taylor returns to defend his 2013 season VRA Sprint Car Championship. He will be challenged by all the rest of the outstanding VRA Sprint Car drivers who will be going all out to make 2014 their year to shine. Other drivers expected to compete are Kyle Smith, Rick Hendrix, Tom Hendricks, Guy Woodward, Clark Templeman III, Luke Boles and many others. These drivers will thrill you as they approach 80 MPH on our 1/5 mile clay oval competing in 10 lap heat races, semi mains when needed and a 30 lap feature.

In VRA Senior Sprints, defending champion Clif Warren will be back to go for three championships in a row. He will be going against other over 45 year old drivers in this very competitive class that features the same cars as the regular VRA Sprints with age being the only difference. Other drivers expected to compete are Wally Pankratz, Chris Meredith, Ed Schwarz and others.

VRA is continuing with its Hobby Stock Class. The return full size stock car racing to Ventura Raceway in the form of VRA Hobby Stocks last season was met with great fan support and excitement. Those of you who have been following VRA for many years may remember the VRA Street Stocks. The new Hobby Stock Class is a throwback to these Camaro, Firebird, Monte Carlo based race cars. Several drivers who competed in the old series returned to action in this new exciting class in 2013. It will be fun to see the growth of this new series in 2014. 2013 series champ Scott Dinger will lead the field into the new season. He will be challenged by regulars David Heurung, Sam Garvin, Tom Stephens Jr,, Gary Curtis, Ernie Malone and others.

Robbie Witwer took the 2013 IMCA Modified Championship. This class of open wheeled V 8 Stock Cars always provides exciting on track wild racing action. Other drivers expected to compete include many time champ Jack Parker, Joshua Vogt, last season runner-up Brad Prows, Steve Bulpitt, Dennis Eckert and many others who race this series throughout the western United States/

VRA Dwarf Cars return to action with racing in two classes, Seniors and Pros. Senior Champion Mike Neal leads the seniors into action tonight against the over 45 contingent. Mike Lewis, Tom Stephens and others will be trying to unseat him in 2014. In Pros, Johnny Conely was the 2013 Champion. Other drivers who will be challenging in the Pros include Curt Cook, Randy Gordon, Eric Moore, Tim Conley and many others. These small sedans and trucks always put on a good show for the fans.

2012 and 2013 Sport Compact Champion Zack Peterson will lead this class of four cylinder racers into action for the new season. This entry level series is designed to get drivers racing on the clay oval with the goal of some of them moving up to higher level classes.

VRA Mod Lites are back with 2013 Series champ Ricky Lewis back to try to defend his title against the rest of the field of drivers that includes Jeffrey Fry, Dave Dotson, Mike Gilmore, Kim Lewis, George Calvo and others. These downsized modified racers are a growing class.
