Hello all, this will be my first and last post here as I do not wish to have my personal email swamped with spam. I do however read this forum and a couple other racing related ones pretty religiously. I own a small business and sponsor a couple of different style cars as our nearest dirt track is 100 miles + and 3 hours away. I have been to probably 25 sprint car races in my life and wish I had time to do more. I do watch anything race related as I am just a gearhead by nature.

On to the subject. I don't think I have ever heard a worse case of sour grapes in an interview that the 2 D. Schatz just did on the duece. I would recommend that D.S. lighten up and play along with the announcers and not behave like a spoiled brat. If he did not see him wave to him as he told the interviewer then why was he making all those petty, cutting statements about winning once every 6 months and needing to get on T.V. ? McCarl gave D.S. his due called him the new king and doesn't get a chance to pass him very often McCarl was very deferential to a fellow that doesn't IMHO deserve it. What I saw was 2 distinct personalities and if I felt the urge to sponsor a sprint car, there is no doubt which one of those 2 I'd pick. That's my view. See you all at the drags some time.

I must have been watching a different show. I watch for the RACING, not to judge everyones personality. Schatz is currently the best sprint car RACER in the world. I thought McCarls wave was bush league & during his camera time he makes an ass of himself, he might have broke Dudes record for winks at the camera during a single interview. Schatz might not have an electric personally, but he did come up with the best quote, "I guess it was good for those guys they need a win every 6 months or so".

I don't think you listen very well to Donny's interviews because the last 5 or 6 races Donny has thanked Ricky for all his help. That seems to me like he is giving some of the credit to Ricky.

Having "THE WAVE" and Donny whining like a school girl on tape to watch over & over

PRICELESS....Smile

Have seen Tmac do the wave before but that was the perfect application

Someone get poor Donny a tissuefrown

Laudarevsonhunt...pretty funny comment about watching for the RACING and not judging on personality...but then making a comment about Terry's personality. Can you say hypocrite?? I would rather see a little bit of personality when being interviewed, and with certain drivers you get it, certain ones you don't. Donny may be the best out there right now, but the other guys don't have to get out of his way...make him earn it. Sitting in the front stretch crowd last nite I can tell you the fans were happy for Terry and Chad.

I've been watching Schatz race since he was a kid. In the early days with the Outlaws he was the darling of the fans in Fargo. The past few years while attending the WoO shows in Fargo there seems to be alot less cheers for the hometown hero. Even the show in Grand Forks I notice little cheering for the "New King" LOL. I'll admit I was one of those supporters of Mr. Schatz back in the day, buying all the die cast and shirts, they knew me very well at the souvenir trailer and in the pits. I remember the many times I was at the Nationals patting ol' Donny on the back and letting him know, as a fan, I felt for him not being able to win it and ending up second again. But over the years my attitude has changed. Why should I give a rats ass about a driver who has behaved more and more like a dick over the years. I unfortunately do not get ESPN2 but I hear there has been alot of bitching and whining on TV this year. Including the race in Fargo. Donny Schatz should ask himself one important question. Where have all my fans gone???

You should have heard what come out of Donny's mouth to Don Mack when Mack tried to talk to him after the WoO race in Grand Forks!! Its stuff like that, that makes you look real bad in the eyes of the fans. I lose more respect for the guy every day. His comments on tv today are no real shock. Him and Tony will get along real good together.

I don't know what happened with Don Mack, but maybe you could fill us in. Oh well, I think Tony likes the guys that wear the black hat anyways.

Donny is just upset because TMAC did the same thing to him when he ran him down and passed him in a heat race at the Kings Royal. It's not obvious Schatz is on a roll winning a million races this year or anything. Ah he can cry all he wants,it dosent matter, He will win some more races, and TMAC waved at Paul McMahon the 2nd night of the Kings Royal, Paul didnt piss and moan,I guess it just goes to show you never really know someone, until you know them. Way to go TMAC..Go spank em at the Nationals!!!

Wouldn't you hate to be a WoO official? If Donnie moans and groans on tv, just think about what he does when the tv cameras aren't rolling and he has a problem. My experience they always go running to an official.

remember, Schatz won Rookie of the Year in 1997 because he used to buy his way into the field on nights he wasn't fast enough to make the A Main. Schatz is a good racer, but that doesn't mean he's a good guy.

Remember that well HDsmoke20. The rookie title might have gone the other way if they had to qualify for the races.

Tinybubbles - Don't let the fear of people sending you emails keep you from posting here. I have been a member of this messageboard since it's inception (over 10 years). I have my enemies here, but I can count on 2 hands the number of emails I have recieved over the years here. Half were hatemail from MSPN and the other half being about racing.

Silvercrownfan - I think it is no secret that Schatz will be under the TSR banner in 2008. I think I am the only person on this board who heard Tony's comparison to Schatz over the radio when he took the checkered flag 2 weeks ago at Chicago.

As far as Donny and his personality (or lack thereof), I really can not say much. In that area, he remindes me of my favorite driver (Sammy Swindell). I have always said, if I want personality, I tune to Leno or Letterman, if I want a sprint car driver, I watch Sammy. BUT, I have never really caught on to Donny, even though he is a great talent, I guess it all stems from an incident back in 1999 in Topeka. My wife, who was just starting to gain interest in the sport was wanting to find a "favorite driver", and you know how women can be, she went up to him after the races after buying a shirt, just to shake his hand and have the shirt signed, it was a complete disaster. Needless to say, she doesn't like Danny...LOL.

One last thing, I really have to laugh at the people that like to call Donny the "new" or "next king". To do so, just shows stupidity, this coming from a Sammy Swindell fan. Call Donny the best driver there is this year (which he obviously is), but PLEASE, do not tarnish the title "The King", by calling someone who is a virtual newcomer, when compared to the accomplishments of those like Kinser, Opperman, Swindell, Wolfgang, Ferkel, Weld and the other great drivers that made this sport what it is today.

Garry Rush, 10 times Australian sprintcar champion and now currently a car owner who's seen quite a few good drivers come and go, said he thought he'd never in his life time see another driver like Steve Kinser, he believes he has now.

Donny Schatz drives for Garry Rush in Australia and together they've cleaned up every big race we have down here except the Warnambool Classic.

It was a nice crown. Though it has been worn a couple dozen other times, before him, by old 'RealOutlaw' racers

If Steve Kinser were Donny's age he would be racing with the likes of Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon right now.

I guess my point is, wouldn't he be considered the King until next year's race?  Or could the King really be Richard Petty who doesn't like his title being thrown around.  How about the Balco King (aka Barry Bonds).  There are plenty of Kings to go around.  My fav is Little Kings.
