Brad Loyet – Long Night at TMS/No Problem!

(Bill W) September 24, 2013 – Action went into the wee hours at the dirt track at Texas Motor Speedway near Fort Worth last Sunday morning, but Brad Loyet and the Vacuworx Global/Miller Truck Lines #o5 rolled with it.  The result was a top five finish.  The Sunset Hills, Missouri driver will race a little closer to home this weekend at Friday and Saturday’s Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial held at Lucas Oil Speedway near Wheatland, Missouri.

The heats hit the track late at TMS on Saturday, but Brad was ready.  He drove from eighth to third.  “We were pretty good,” he says.  “We had a car that chased them down, but by the time the checkered flew, it was too late.  We just couldn’t get there in time.  We were fortunate to make the redraw.”

After drawing a starting spot in the feature inside of row two, Brad set a good early pace in the main event.  “We were running third there early on,” he says.  “The track was a little weird.  It was rough and choppy.  We set up thinking it was going to stay that way.  I was actually getting through the holes a little better than the others early on.  I was a little too good, too early, to be honest.”

The track conditions changed after a restart.  “I started to run down (Dustin) Morgan and (Travis) Rilat, and then the caution came out,” says Brad.  “The track ended up blowing off a lot more than I expected.  I could have been tighter as far as my entry was going.”

Brad fell back, but recovered to checker fifth.  “I ended up back in seventh or so,” he says.  “Rilat broke, and I got back around Morgan.  I fell into fourth and I thought that’s where we ended up, but I got passed on the last lap.  It was one of those deals where finishing with a top five was good after everything that happened.  We were able to gain a lot of points on Jeff (Swindell).  We’re only about twenty points out of third right now.”

The team is looking forward to Wheatland.  “We’ve run pretty well there,” says Brad.  “We haven’t won a race there yet, but we’ve run second a couple of times and we had a top five there earlier this year.  I like going there.  I like the track.  Hopefully, they’ll give us a good track to race on and we’ll go from there.”
