I'm sitting here pretty much speechless. I know I know...50 laps...fuel stop...blah blah blah. No matter, Schatz and his team have Knoxville's #.
7 out of 8 Knoxville Nationals championships. This one from the B and 21st starting spot. Just amazing. Congrats!

Donny has finished 1st or 2nd 12 times in his last 14 Knoxville Nationals. Also get rid of the pit stop in the A Main. Run the whole 50 laps straight through or go back to 40. This is sprint car racing, not Nascar.

I actually thought it was 12 of 13, but either way his record the last decade or so is impressive as hell. As far as the race format, everyone has their own opinion. Me personally, I've grown used to the 50 laps w/ a stop.
Current sprint car tanks no longer hold enough fuel for 40 or 50 laps on a track that size, and the engines/injection systems guzzle so much methanol now they would never get a longer A main run without a fuel stop.

The first year they went to 50 laps, they stopped for fuel on a caution created by an incident on the track. No artificial interruption there. That could come at any time. Why didn't they wait for 30 laps before the fuel stop, instead of only 24, hoping there would be a natural break anyway?
