Such nonsense... The race was twice the scheduled distance (due to an unreasonable amount of cautions). Multiple teams ran out of fuel. Knoxville should have allowed a fuel stop.
It's obvious that some of you T-Bags love to hate on Sammy, but in this case, Knoxville owns the fuel shortage.
|
I could care less if it was Sammy or some no name driver from Timbucktoo...
If you are going to cut the weight so close in your car that a dozen caution laps are going to make you light at the scales the ONLY people you have to blame is yourself and crew and you deserve to be DQ'd.

Whats the scoop, heard he was light at the scales after he finished 3rd in the b main.

there are little evil things that can happen to a sprint car. You can figure all you want, but who would expect so many yellow? The fact that car could be under weight if feul tank is empty would make most car owners ad just enough weight to make it legal if tank is empty. Maybe 2 steel heim ends or a steel brake peddle instead of ti. We saw a car DQ ed once when radiator boiled over when race was over. When a team is at its worst it has to stsrt getting better.

If the car weighed the exact weight without fluids you'd have nothing to worry about. Like so many has told me about more laps in a feature, It's a SPRINT RACE. Alway's allow another 10% for the unexpected !!!

We always knew we had to have 3 gallons left in our car to make weight, not saying it's the right way to go about it, but we knew it and made sure of it.

Who cares.......he ran out who cares? He cant win at knoxville anyway if even if he didnt run out of fuel.I like Sammy but the fact is there is lots of bullshit over fuel. The guy isnt running good this year so what....what do we get for it if he does?or wins?We get nothing. Its not his year so try again next year, why the fuss?I hope Schatz puts on a clinic tonight so there can be something to fuss over.If he starts 21st is there any takers on that he will be running 8th before the fuel stop? Then the race will continue and shane stewart will race brian brown hard and allow schatz to close in and beat both of them with 10 to go and it will be over.Joey wont even lead a lap or be a factor guaranteed. If sammy was on the pole tonight he would not win...he has had misery at knoxville his whole life so its probably better for him not to make the show and have another probable letdown like usual in the nationals.Sammy will race at least 3 more years i Think but kinser should consider having uncle Karl over for Christmas or hang it up cause he cant even win a damn heat race anymore.I like kinser also so no I am not hating

Oh yeah this was all Knoxville Raceway's fault. If it wasn't the raceway's fault it must be the crew at fault because we already know Sammy can do no wrong. #stillnotwinning. On a side note: I predict this team will self destruct if not before the end of the WoO season schedule shortly after.

Stop bashing Sammy, He is part of the best that has ever raced a sprint car. He will always be known as one of the very best. He also brings the best looking operation to the race track every single, And is a threat to win on any given night. So how can anyone say he is washed up. Your are dead wrong. Months ago you all said Steve was done and should hang it up. Tonight Steve is in the top half of the A. Things will always change but Steve and Sammy will always be the best no argument there. Plus 99 percent of you dont know what it takes to do it anyway, and couldnt do it if you had the tools. I recomend you sit back and watch and enjoy every single racer out there doing what they do. You all should like everyone who is doing this as we have had great sadness in our sport over the years and we never know who could be next to get hurt. So knock off your bashing and enjoy the best racing sport we have. Rick Fowzer

I don't think the #stillnotwinning is meant as anything personal to Sammy, but rather his legion who take every opportunity possible to use #stillwinning the few times it has happened this year like it's a normal occurrence.

I don't personally have any dogs in this fight, but a factor possably forgotten was tire wear also knocks alot of weight off a car , granted i didn't personally see alot of tire wear but it also is a variable. Racing is gambeling, wether your trying to keep the car as lite as possable hoping to make weight at the end or running inches from the wall chancing you don't jump the cushion, either way your taking a gamble on the edge.I'm far from a Sammy fan but I'd rather watch a Knoxville Nationals A main with him in it than without him, love him or hate him he's fun to watch.
It's not a wall,grow some balls boy,its a cement
cushion!!

Most fueled up for a normal 12 lap race. It went nearly 30 on a half mile track. Many were out or nearly out of fuel. I dont have a copy of the WoO or Nationals rules, but I do believe you are supposed to be able to make weight without out fuel.

Don't forget that the Quiring's spent a lot of money on promotion for the new Platinum Series.... I'm not envisioning them pleased that their car is in the E and will be lucky to make the C..

Dear Mr. Quiring, please dump Sammys sorry ass and put Jac in your car. The fans hate Sammy and love Jac. After seeing Sammys performance this week I would not let him push my lawn mower.

If you want to see the magnitude of this mistake, compare the starting positions of Robert Bell (who is yet to turn a lap on the track this week) and Sammy.

Sadiesue has a point.
Sammy was the first I recall using a midget tank on a sprint car. I've been against them for years. They've always been stupid & always will be. Fuel stops don't draw more fans to the sport... they add to the monotony & late time we typically get home for no reason.
Maybe it's appropriate he ran out of fuel & didn't make weight when it mattered a whole lot.

Last I checked the tanks hold at least 25 gallons some guys use 28 gallon tanks. No way you should run out in that B-main unless you are cutting it way to close...

This has nothing to do with the size of Sammy's fuel cell.
It has everything to do with the fact that the race was way, way longer than advertised. Multiple teams, not just Sammy, ran out of fuel.
He obviously had lots of extra fuel and could have easily survived multiple cautions. Unforttunately, the race featured a ridiculous amount of cautions and track cleanup. Knoxville could have done something about it, but they chose not to.
Sammy, along with most other teams are doing everything they can to compete; after all, it's the Nationals.
Forget about the scales for a moment. Think about the teams that ran out of fuel, that didn't have the opportunity to scale their cars. Was it their fault that the race was twice the advertised distance?
What happens when the WoO have a race that goes into overtime? They stop and allow the teams to fill up. Knoxville should have done the same thing last night, but instead they were trying to expedite!

if he was to dump Sammy from the Big Game car, there is plenty of other drivers to put in the car long before you put Jac in it. there is a reason Jac hasn't had a WoO ride in a couple of years. the day when Steve and Sammy aren't on the track anymore will be a sad day. as much as people bitch about Steve and Sammy you will never see anybody like them again. Nascar will keep taking the guys with talent i.e. Kevin Swindell, Brad Sweet, Kyle Larson. so everyone keep bitching but enjoy Sammy while he is still coming to your local track and competing at the best he can. everyone thought Sammy was done years ago then he came back and if it wasnt for a blown tire he would of been the 50th winner. next year i think he will be back in the car and he will be better then he has been this year.
