How about the Civil War King of the West series next year?
I think there would be more advantages than disadvantages to cominbing both series for next year!
The cars counts would be higher! Probably 40 -50 cars each night.
You could watch all your favorite racers racing together instead of picking and choosing what race to go to.
360 engines are less expensive than 410s
Make the schedule about 30 races or so with most of them being closer together so most drivers wouldn't have to pay soo much in gas.
$15-20 entry fees for fans
Most KWS drivers would welcome the addition of racing with the Civil War drives, many of whom should be racing with them but not to a lack of funds aren't able to or can't afford a 410 engine.
Change to the KWS rules, especially having a dash.
Disadvantages would be:
Needing a 410 for when the Outlaws come to town.
Chico friday night shows would have to change to 360s mostlikey
Greater competion for the Civil War drivers
410 drivers getting used to driving a litle slower car but at small tracks it would be very little difference
410 engine builders wouln't be very happy
*I was curious what other fans and drivers thought about this idea! What do you think the advantages and disadvantages would be? I think it is a worth a try and would look a lot like Falls Nationals at Chico in October or even Trophy Cup!
Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

The thing that makes Civil War successful is that the participating tracks do not run a winged 360 points show against the civil war dates. That keeps the race dates down to 14 and allows the drivers for other tracks to participate while running close to home most of the time. The 30 plus nights would than cause scheduling problems with the weekly shows thining the car count, so you may actually still only have the 20-30 car you get now. Granted most of them would be competivite versus the 7 that are competitive today in 410s.

As a fan I love my 410s And I love my 360s . I like to have them both. I think it would be cool to have double header nights . 410s and 360s but running separate of each other. if someone wants to do double duty that would be cool too. I agree that having one long series would hurt local counts some. That said I will chose the 410 race over the 360 race if the drive is reasonable.
Finally livin the dirt dream.

As a die hard California 410 fan. it hurts to even think of no more 410 winged touring series in California. I grew up loving the NARC series, it hurt when it was gone. It hurt when San Jose went to 360's only, then closed a few years later. And it will hurt when the Golden State Challenge goes away. Sorry, but I can't be a fan of a series that has dodged San Jose for years and now Watsonville because they can't run with the locals.

Ditto ! well put Ca Sprint car fan. Seems
we dont allways know how good we have it when we had it so good. Sure was a blast when the Northern Auto Racing Club was in town. By the way, 01 Bailiy Bros. car with Leroy Van Connet was one of my fav.

As someone who is a fan and went to a lot of races In San Jose but was too young to pay attention the the "politics " side of things m I was wondering if you could elaborate on this? I remember San Jose as Having 410s and 360s on the same night a lot. What series are tyou speaking of dodging SJ and Watsonville ?

I have to clarify that I am also a big fan of 410 racing and don't want to see it go, but I am just thinking of the next best thing for sprint car racing in our area. I just hate it when there is a Civil War race and KWS race on the same night and I have to pick one!
There are soo many people viewing this thead but not many people responding! Come on everyone tell me what you think

What I would love to see is for Stockton to have a combined CW and KWS night. The facilty could handle it, the location is pretty central and they know how to promote!

No one wants to see 410 racing go away in California, me included. I do have to ask though can any fan please tell me out there ho they can tell the difference between 20 410s and 20 360s on the race track for a main event. I really wanna know. And don't say you can tell because of the drivers. If there was a race that had 2 main events same 20 drivers identical 410 car and 360 car and no one told you which main was which how are you going to tell the differnce?

I like your idea, Kelly. I think anything that provides some unification would be good. Right now in California, we have nonwing 410s, wing 410s, nonwing 360s, wing 360s, nonwing spec sprints, and wing spec sprints. There are at least 3 USAC series, KWS, URA, Civil War, Rebel sprints, Hunt Magneto series, and probably others I have forgotten about. The upshot is that we have lots of races with small fields of cars and mediocre fan attendance. It's really hurting the sport.

I honestly can say I can see the difference in speed from the stands. Maybe it's because I am a racer myself (not dirt track) But I can honestly see the difference. Does it make the racing any different????? Not always really. And I can hear the difference. And from the stands they do at some tracks tend to drive differntly.Like a 410 can use HP to get themselves ot of bad situations that maybe a 360 doesn't have enough HO to do so in some situations. I think they need to be driven differently and that makes the race look different. Just what I think!

On the original subject I did have a conversation with a buddy who's nephew is a beginner in sprint cars and talking about the proper road for the future. If you are on a budget and can only afford to go 1 way or the other having a 360 is the smartest thing to have. You can pretty much race anywhere any weekend. Choices are not so big with a 410.

I can tell on pull down on the engines in the turns and also the flat out speed . but that is one of the things I listen and look for. But if geared right on the right track yes it can be difficult to tell.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.
