I know, run a chevy, but we aren't. So, we need a u joint for a 351c. Any thoughts? Wingless class with the UMSS in Wisconsin. Any help appreciated.

Good to see another Ford running in sprint cars. I run a 351w now, but moving up to a 408 soon. The u joint I use was purchased from Cressman Enterprises in Hartford, SD. They do a lot of Ford sprint car engines and parts. I also use a front cover and water pump mount from them as well. Nice pieces that they make. Give them a call and see if they have what you need or can make it for you. http://cressmanenterprises.com/ or 605-528-5656.

I would go with the Cressman unit, nice piece and has advantages over the rest. Give them a call before you buy anything else to get the details 605-528-5656

Are you OK? I mean you might wind up in jail. Not just a Ford but a Cleveland as well? If the the wrong girls hear about this, you are in big trouble. Canted valves even in small block heads right from grammy's station wagon are considered exotic and detremental to the sport! Haven't you heard? Evil Knevel has nothing on you. It looks like UMSS are the new true Outlaws.

Of course I'd suggest the MPD u-joint from Speedway, I will say that the Cressman u-joint is a very nice piece. In fact, they make a lot of nice looking components. The Cressman's have been "blue oval believers" for a long time.
ebecker, I hope you find what you're looking for! Good luck on the season!

Thanks for all the help. Jim, I didn't know what the Rousch Ford used for a crank, you would think with everything being aftermarket you would just build a sprint car crank with a standard chevy button. Sorry no pics yet, still a little ways away. It will definitely be a unique car when done. lol I talked to Cressman, great response and helpful, only problem was that the u-joint had to be used with their collar and ball, so $450, which isn't that much, but thought maybe there were some other methods. We though about a button that bolted to the ford crank with studs for a chevy u joint. Could even use a turned down Ford flywheel and then add studs?

Firstly you could probably contact Roush through email or a phone call and ask them. They are making some 360's now for the ASCS and I am sure that they would tell you whether or not the one from Speedway would work with a stock crank. ....Worst case scenario you can make a coupler out of aluminum bar stock and use a steel coupler assembly. That is what we used to do with The Sportsman Midgets. The u-joints are cheap and the aluminum can be had from a scrap house pretty inexpensively. If you send me the back end off of an old crank I can make one for you. If you have access to a lathe you can make one yourself. With the rules that govern the class that you are running in you would not be hampered by a unit of this nature, and it might even go a long way towards getting more Fords into your class. If guys knew that they did not need to break the bank to make one work more folks might try it. If you want more information email me and I can get you pointed in the right direction. I might even know where there is an old 351 crank lying around to start the process. Let me know..... As for the coupler that will allow you to run the Chevy assembly, well you might end up too long with that deal and then need to start spacing the bell. Way too much effort if you ask me.

I run the u joint and bell combo from Cressman and have been for 7 years. We have never had a problem with it and it all bolts together nice and neat, with no need to have to fab anything yourself. He builds his bells pretty study, so there is some built in safety in case of u joint failure. I would opt for the Cressman u joint and bell. Save yourself time and money with not having to custom machine parts yourself. Just my two cents.

The Cressman unit is ALL made from USA billet 7075 aluminum. The unit moves the pickup point 1" closer to the firewall. It is Patened and he makes and sells them for $450 for Chevys as well as Fords.

You can't put a chevy bolt pattern on a ford crank flange. The flange O.D. isn't big enough to hold the bolt circle pattern of a chevy.
do it in the dirt
