NOTES:
On the initial start, Martens drove around the high side to take the lead but the red flew for the Weise machine as he flipped coming out of turn two. VanWyhe got a piece of the accident, with some top wing damage. Jake Leighty and Casey Heser also visited the work area before the race would resume. With the pole setter retiring for the night, that moved Lusk to the pole alongside Martens.
Lusk got the lead this time from Martens, with Toews, Dronen and Boles running in the top five. Lusk had a good rhythm and line around the track as he put a little distance between himself and the competition. Behind Lusk, Toews moved past Martens and a lap later, Boles moved up to third. VanWyhe pulled his car in after only a couple laps as there must have been more issued from the contact on the opening lap incident.
Lusk led Toews and Boles as the trio pulled away from Vogelaar who moved into fourth as Martens faded, retiring his 13 machine on the 9th lap. The front group continued in the same running order, with Toews and Boles pulling closer as the green laps continued to click off. While still maintaining a 4 car length lead over second place, the caution flew for Leighty as his car broke, leaving debris on the track, and his wounded car sitting on the high side of turn two. This set up a six-lap dash to the finish, with the field bunched up and ready to fight it out for the win.
Toews did not waste any time as he jumped to the outside of Lusk going into turn one and drove around him on the outside to take the point. Boles followed through the next set of turns, sliding Lusk back to third. Vogelaar and Rosenboom took the next couple laps to also get around Lusk while Toews had his hands full of the strong challenges from Boles. On the 19th lap, Boles had the line he needed to take the top spot from Toews and drove on to the victory.
Lap Leaders: 1-14 Lusk, 15-18 Toews, 19-20 Boles.
Heat Winners: Lusk and VanWyhe.
