SLINK, I would have loved to spend some time with you discussing the latest Posse member Jason "Left Turn" Lefler however, Smitty's expiration date was almost up and we needed to get him home before he turned sour...wink

Opinions may vary...

No I pretty much posted just to get On WoO's nerve,( all in Fun) but yeah could care less if someone got a penalty for jumping or not jumping a start.....LOL. It happens all the time with the Outlaws so it is nothing new. I think they should Start at the Flag stand where it should be started.Where you can't get on the gas till the leader does at the Start/Finish line. On another note it was Good to see you today even though you blew me off. I guess I'm not good enough to chat for a min. anymore.

You rational is pretty weak. How would the drivers ever see the flagman if they started at the start/finish line?? You want the drivers looking "though" thier top wings?

Whatever!!!! NASCAR drivers do it, and They have roofs. They started races like that in the old days. The flagman threw the green as they came to the stripe. Why do you think it's called the START/FINISH LINE? Your worried about not being able to see the flagman drop the green through the top wing. When they start them in the middle of a turn they can't see if the green was dropped. That's why there are so many false start's. This shit of starting between two line is stupid.

the casual fan would be surprised to know drivers will start to throttle up in a generic area on the track, some later than others, depending on the track I personally focus on the lights located trackside if it is more feesable to catch in my line of vision, majority of the time its green when you get a moment to flash your vision to that area, truth be known, when starting pole, if one waits to the correct time to fire, he will proubly be swarmed by the anticipating drivers behind him, NOW your atthe mercy of the officials to flag the start and restart, majority of the time this never happens, with the leader setting the pace for restart I would rather take my chances on the Jump rather than freight trained looking like I had my pants down, Flaggers like to think they have complete control of drivers wearing ear pieces, funney how the two dont match simutainously sometimes?, Yes, the rules are gone over pre race, but, you would be pretty irnorant to accept the 71 didnt get the short end of the stick. lets rewind the earpiece, and really see if he was earlie on the start?

Sometimes the call goes your way and sometimes it doesn't. Just like any sport, there are set rules but in the end a human is the one that makes the call and enforces it and no one is perfect. You take what you may consider a bad call this time and maybe next time you'll be on the other end of the stick and the questionable call will go your way. I have a feeling that replay isn't going to be coming into dirt track racing anytime soon.

I didn't see the call so my comment is not based on whether Joey got a bad call or not, just on the basic principle that it doesn't do any good to carry around what could have been if it wasn't for this or that.

Why do they do double file restarts anyways? Why are they giving the guy running 14th a chance to better himself with 7 laps to go. He had 23 other laps to attempt to get something going and couldn't. i think this rule is bogus and they should go back to traditional Sprint Car racing with single file restarts. The only thing this rule does is penalize the guys that did everything right to put themselves in a position to win or run up front. Bullshit if you ask me.

do it in the dirt

This ranks right up there with the 6 restarts at the beginning of the 2012 National Open...

How do you call a guy for jumping in the 14th spot?? REALLY????

Thats like spotting a bird in a flying pile of garbage during a tornado.

GTFO!!!!

before the outlaws just about everyone had double file restarts and the fast cars started from the back.

then the outlaws changed their format to single file starts and fast cars up front. then everyone changed to that format.

double file restarts are nothing new. it is history repeating.

the only drivers who cry about double file restarts are the ones who can't seem to take advantage of them.

you will never hear haud complain about double file restarts. Smile

nascar doesn't throw the green flag at the start/finish line. there is an area way before that where the leader is allowed to start. plus nascar drivers have a spotter in their ear telling them when the green is out.

if you start a sprint car race at the start/finish line you will have nothing but a wreck fest because the guys in the back will be charging the green and the guys up front will be waiting for it. then if you don't get a green, big mess. i've seen it myself. that is why they let the cars accelerate out of turn four and have the starting line there. to try to get everyone going at the same time and let them race down the straight.

Nascar drivers can see the line of vision through the right side of their car much better than a winged sprint ,(any stockcar for that matter) if you don't believe me, have a local driver allow you to sit in his/her car with the wing on, youll quicky notice the right side of your vision is quickly hampered almost nill, due to the right side sideboard, expessially when the wing is in its forward most position besides your talking about a track that is up to 2 1/2 miles in distance (nascar) .the horizon of vision is much greater than that of a 1/2 mile track im pretty sure a tail of 42 cars does not start specifically at the start finish line ,that would be impossible, this isn't a pinewood derby start, with the Outlaws there is a rule adapted using a cone on restarts, to NOT advance a position until past a set point (the cone) I know this rule well! im not trying to be a smarty here, I think your just compairing apples to oranges, IMO, either way, like stated earlier, the chips may fall Saldana's way another night, part of the game I guess..

The starts back in the day were in between turn 4 & the flagstand & they never had anymore of a problem than they do today. The real bullshit was when they had it on the backstretch & the leader would take off only to back off right before the line & bunch everyone up back in the pack trying to get that little jump on the rest of the field. Anything & Everything should be started by the flagman. Did the guy beside Saldana actually stumble or did Saldana take off to early ??? I have not seen a video of the offense so I don't know.

They double up the starts to make it more entertaining, these days even nascar the spotter and or race director tells drivers when to go,back in the old days they had to rely on the flagman, since todays tracks have forgotten how important a great flagman is,especially today in nascar the flagman is a puppet, thet dont make any decisions, they have to wait until they are told exactly what to do,or be replaced, that is a fact.

Yes, NASCAR has a "race director" calling the shots.

This is nothing new.

In "his day:" Unle Teddy was quite often the race director! Wink
