does the officials make the call of reworking the track or is it a promoters call?
do you think they should rework the track or run what they have started with?

Working the track at Pevely worked, but they should have had it better prepared a little earlier.Time trials track went away way to fast,a little more water would have done wonders. I'm thankfull they worked on it later though, racing was very good.

Seems to be the norm these days. The days of working the track ALL WEEK LONG are over, sad to say.
I still like my new rule. If they have to rework the track once the program has begun, all cars should take off the wings.

Soak down the track and take the wings off right from the start of the night. The right rear tire should be the first part of the car to enter a corner!!!!!!!

At Knoxville, the track made the call. At Cedar Lake, the track officials planned TWO reworkings, but only needed one...can we clone Tommy Helfrich and his equipment?
If this post isn't results, stories or something c
constructive, it isn't me!

I'm glad they took the time to work the track at Pevely because it was drying out on the back side after quailifying.
The WoO race at Tri-City in Ill. about a month ago however the track was just horrible. The Gundaker's may have reconfigured the place but that night the track was still pretty much the same, a piece of junk.
You said it Bill we went to Haubstadt on Sunday and Helfrich of course was ready to dig the track up when needed. With just 41 sprints and about 30 mods. I think they kind of overkilled just a little but the track was perfect come feature time and we saw just one hellacious race between Clayton and Stanbrough. Daron did what nobody has done this year in the wingless ranks, pass Stanbrough and beat him. Should be the best race during Ind. Sprint Week this year and it's the last one. Haubstadt rules!

At the Eagle WoO race, the WoO officials told Roger to stop watering the track because they didn't want to run in a "mud pit". Then, after it dried out they demanded that the track be reworked.
I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

the woo have notoriously favored dryer tracks. when the woo was formed they would race anywhere on anything. but as time went by and the series took on a life of it's own things began to change. more and more the advantage was going to the traveling teams. whatever worked the best for them was the way things went. and i mean more than just the track prep. that is why it has gotten away from the outlaws vs. the locals kind of thing in a lot of places. the locals in a lot of places feel they can not compete so they don't show up to run. used to be the series could have 10 traveling teams and put on a good show from town to town. but now it is turning into a deal kind of like nascar where the series comes into town and puts on their own show.it is getting pretty close to that now. in my opinion the woo is never going to get back to the outlaws vs. the locals, so they need to have about 30 traveling teams and come in and just run their show. oh yeah, i was talking about dry tracks. that seems to favor the outlaws so they tend to want those type of tracks.

As someone who lives 32 miles from Cedar Lake, knows the people who work the track and has seen it lock down to single file in hot dry weather I fully support their decision. That strategy has saved the day and made weekly shows as well as the USA Nationals, IRA shows and WDRL Late Model events fantastic on many occasions. I think anyone who goes there a lot and was familiar with the weather we have been having would have agreed.
When people go see major league baseball and their team gets blown out 12 to 0 they just consider it a bad game but they know all baseball games aren't like that. Same with pro football, you see some great games, some that are average and sometimes you feel like getting up and leaving early when it's a blowout. In spite of that people keep coming back knowing that they'll occasionally see their team win on no hitter or a game that propels their football team into the playoffs. Why do people have such a hard time understanding that dirt tracks are just that, dirt, they're outdoors and subject to drought and drenching just like the crops. Promoters can only go by what works most of the time and take their best guess based on their knowledge of their facility. When their guess is not quite perfect or sometimes ends up being totally wrong dirt track fans tend not to be a very forgiving lot. It's nice to see a perfect race but we won't see very many in a lifetime. Enjoy them when you can, keep supporting the sport and have fun.

Any Indiana non-wing show during hotlaps or USAC race during qualifying. It's a thing of beauty.
