I was just chatting with Ed a few minutes ago.
Dennis Moore Jr. has stepped aside from the 17G car by his own choosing.
Dennis is still healing from previous incidents and does not feel comfortable at the present time in a race car.
The 17G is a great ride for the right driver with the right attitude and the burning desire.
Good luck to DMJ in his future endeavours and also to Ed on finding a good replacement driver also.

Dear Ed
One driver to look at races at Knoxville every week in the 360's. He has won the 360 championship I think two or three years in a row? He is fast and knows how to take care of a racecar!!!!!
GIVE JAKE PETERS A CALL !!!!!!!!

A guy I would love to see get an opportunity is Calvin Landis. He does really well on a pretty tight budget.

If I was Ed, I would offer it to Jake Peters or Clint Garner. I think these 2 would be a great asset to any car owner.

Calvin would be a great choice! He has the talent and hardly ever wrecks! If you give him a stronger engine and some extra equipment so that he can be aggressive then he will win lots of races! Clint Garner is a good driver but i personally dont think he would be able to get along with the Giffords!

Let's just hope Big Ed puts someone in that car, the 410 class needs numbers on a weekly basis! I dont want to see knoxville go to some kind of late model track

Best of luck to you Dennis in your future endeavours. Was hoping to catch you spin some laps during the Nationals this year, but will just have to catch up with somewhere on the fairgrounds. Enjoy the family time, get healthy, and hope to see you back on the track in the near future!

He has driven for them before and ended up quitting so i doubt he would ever think of going back there, plus he has some good midget rides and 360 rides going for him right now!

My vote is for Robert Bell.
I've always wanted to see what he could do if he had good equipment under him (he does better than some guys with twice his budget already).
What a dream team. Robert as driver, Woody as the Crew Chief, Gifford as the owner. If nothing else, they would be the "fan favorite" every single week.
IMO, Gifford does not have the program to compete for the title (never has--they used Billy's motors last year).
DMJ is a good driver, but can be very erratic at times (like under yellow lining up for the feature the last few weeks--full throttle through the turns 1 & 2 when everyone else is idling around because he waited until the pace truck pulls in to get into his starting position). He should have been "parked" the last two weeks IMO for being an IDIOT prior to the green flag (under green conditions he hasn't done anything too stupid yet).

vande77, the 17g car used Gaerte's Engines last year as they have for the past few seasons. They put Billy's engine in at McCarl's race and the old 1200 lb Nationals race last year.

Well being a friend of DMJ, vande77 I think you should walk right up to him and tell you what you think of him in stead of taking a chicken shit shot at him on a message board. If we are gonna point fingers at rough and wild play I would have to say theres a few driving at knoxville that should probably be parked for taking a few of my friends out this season but then again this is open wheel racing its not day care! As far as Robert Bell as a sentimental favorite, well I have always said theres a man that represents how much fun the sport used to be and he is probably having more fun than anyone else in sprint car racing today as it has become so business orientated. It would be very interesting to see what he could do in some good equipment. As far as taking a shot at Gifford saying they dont have the program, you should fund a race team for a year, with the cost its a major accomplishment just to field a car these days and a nice one at that, the 17g is just as capable of winning as anyone this year. I thought Dennis looked very smooth this year amid everyones predictions of tearing up alot of equipment he looked good and I can't wait to see him driving again good luck Dennis and good Luck Ed for finding a replacement.

Is it possible DMJ left for greener pastures? Hmmm, I wonder if Forbrook ever found a driver?

I have told Dennis that he should calm down prior to the green flag (have you been there the last few weeks??) before he or someone else ends up in the wall due to his recklessness but he didn't seem to notice or care when I was speaking to him last week.
As far as you thinking I am taking a "shot" at the Gifford team, I am not. Just stating the fact that they don't have the $$$ to compete for a championship (the 55 and the 21 are outspending the 17g by double or more). If not for the 55 playing musical chairs with drivers last year, I am not sure that Billy or Brian Brown finishes 1st and 2nd in the points (more than likely 2nd and 3rd).
Do I think the 17g is capable of winning a race? Yes, with the right luck and starting up front I think they can win, but they just haven't been fast (ie: top 6 or 8 in TT) until it's too late every night. Do I think they can run a consistent top 5 (which is what it is going to take this year (Dusty Zomer's WORST finish this year is 8th and he is only leading by 90 points with 3 wins)? No, I do not.
Same goes for the 55 (they just haven't been consistent until the last couple weeks), the 2 (consistent, but bad luck), the 21 (4 wins is helping him mightily, but if he isn't up front, he has not looked good), the 10 (again consistency), or the 3s (no consistency and running into people after the races finish the last couple weeks). Unless the 1z has a couple "terrible" weeks, it's his championship to lose IMO. This week may indeed decide the championship (especially if the 1z or the 21 miss the 1st feature (alternates do not get points anymore) or get caught up in a crash).
Are there others driving @ Knoxville that are driving over their heads? Yes, but at least they are doing it under GREEN FLAG conditions and not the yellow prior to the start of the race.
As far as funding a team goes, I WISH I COULD, but my car would be VERY SLOW, as I have about enough expendable income to buy 1 RR tire for the season (at that rate, I would be long dead and gone before I accumlated enough to purchase a chassis, let alone a motor).
Dennis did look smooth under Green flag conditions and has not torn up any equipment (to my recollection), and I for one did not say that he would tear up any.
The Forbrook 5 and now the 17G, both looking for drivers. Robert Bell for the 17G, and Kaley Gharst for the 5 (he and Guy seem to display the same attitude, so maybe they would run well).
Just my $.02

"the 21 (4 wins is helping him mightily, but if he isn't up front, he has not looked good)"
Good grief man, take a look at the 21's starting positions versus where he has finished every week. It isn't like he has been starting on the pole and inheriting his wins. Brown is looking like the older brother who is the best at Nintendo and won't let anybody else win. Once the track slicks off is when the 21 car's set up shows.
Just Super Chuck's $.02....

I liked the Droud Jr. idea, but had no idea they had teamed before and not worked out. But considering Droud's track record for Knoxville in August, he would be my pick. I can't imagine he would pass up a quality ride for the Nationals.
Hell, I would put him in one of our cars for the week if we had a good motor for him.

Droud was the fill in driver when Mitrisin was hired! Then Jeff got hurt at Eldora and Droud filled in and and later stole the full ride from Jeff! Has anyone thought about Alley going back to the 17G team that he had so much succes with last year?

Why not Mitrisin? He is a 410 guy anyway he proved that at Caseys nite last year by walking away from the field it was only later that he was DQ'd for a minor wing issue Jeff deserves a good ride in 410s
