Decent field at Monticello!  Congrats Patrick Linn! (Skyrocket Chassis) on the win and Casey, Kevin, Jeremy and Jodey on the top fives.

So how's the track surface these days guys?  Can we expect a good track for the USMTS show on FRIDAY, July 27th?  What do you think?

This count is pretty good considering Chatham, Ark Motor Speedway and Greenville ($1000 to win) were all running too.

Then down at Fast Trax, Timmy Culp beat a field of 19 with his new Taylor-Shaw!  Congrats to Tim after dropping several motors at the Missouri USMTS shows.  I'm sure Timmy's looking forward to that USMTS show on his home turf on July 28th!

How 'bout Dougie Murphrey getting second!  The Doug Murphrey Memorial we had for Dougie's dad back in May was a success on many counts but none as big as Dougie having that desire to get back on the track.  He's driving a former Brook Strenth Shaw Chassis now.  He was off for a year and it looks like he's getting those dirt track legs back now!

Lee Jay, Jody and Jonathan get good top fives and Champion Park regular Robert Young gets sixth.

Fast Trax Results:

1 2 C8     Timmy Culp      West Monroe, La 180
2 1 25     Dougie Murphrey      Tullos , La 170

19 19 3B     Brian Burch      Monroe , La 0

And speaking of Brooks Strength, the Jackson UMP & Crate Late racer proved he could run a hard tire too as he took that $1000 over a stout field of 16 at Greenville.  Sure would like to see Strength at a couple of the USMTS shows -- if not all four -- on July 26th through 29th.  We start at Batesville on Thursday, July 26th and end at Boothill Speedway in Shreveport, Louisiana on Sunday, July 29th.

2 Palasini's (Duke and Mike) in the top five along with Shane and Brandon.  Congrats guys.  Heard John Polasini was pretty good before he broke.  USMTS in July anyone?

Greenville Results:

24-Brooks Strength
V8-Duke Palasini
15-Shane Stephens
99-Brandon Poppenheimer
8V-Mike Palasini

13. 1- Charles Mullens (DNF)
14.9D1-Dustin Blevins (DNF)
15. 13-JJ Wilson (DNF)
16. 221-Greg Fore (DNS)

Then -- whether weather (huh?) caused it or not -- Odie Green skipped Round 2 of the Outlaw Mod Tour which his father is a co-promoter of and I guess it's a good thing he did because he won at Arkansas Motor Speedway in his Gibson Motorsports Shaw Chassis over a field of 20.

Congrats to Tater (TRE), David, Rick and Rebel on their top fives!  David is top ten in USMTS Southern Series points.

Now that's 72 Modifieds between those 4 tracks all racing on the same night!  Ark-La-Tex and Champion Park rained out that night but neither was running Modifieds anyway as they were supporting the Outlaw Mod Tour round two at Texas Dirt about an hour and a half west of Shreveport.  Where even with weather forecasts, reports and mis-reports messing with the show, they still got 46 cars!  Included among those were regional stars like race winner Michael Robertson, OMT point leader Chris Henigan, round one winner BJ Robinson, John Williams -- the GRT racer who won $1000 on Friday night the 22nd in Many, Louisiana over a field of 31, Kyle Pleasant and Jamie Burford, the 2006 ABC Auto Parts MODS champion who is also top ten in USMTS Southern Series points!

In addition to that, the OMT show at DIRT also had to contend with a $2000 to win show at Cowtown Speedway that drew 40 cars including regional stars like Larry Clevenger, Brett Frazier and Greg Garrett along with DFW area hot shoes like race winner Sean Jones, Clyde Dunn, Jr. and Troy Taylor!

In case your still adding, that's 158 cars on pretty much identical rules at all these tracks combined on the same night!

Now with all of those cars in the area, what kind of fields do you think the USMTS shows at Batesville, Monticello, Fast Trax and Boothill are going to draw?  The first three are all $3000 to win and the last one $2000 to win and they are all one-night shows!  The entry fee varies from $80 to $100 per show depending on whether the driver is USMTS licensed or not and whether they enter early or not but $60 ($75 if licensed) is guaranteed back and the 24-car starting fields are guaranteed $200 to start each show! ($250 if licensed -- more later on this licensing & early entry stuff).

This is not counting other USMTS Southern Series regulars like Jason Hughes, Tommy Weder, Jr., Steve Holzkamper, Johnny Bone, Jr., Randy Timms, Rodney Sanders, Bobby Malchus, Scott Green and Chase Allen and of course the big dawg himself, Kelly Shryock who actually appears human of late!.  18 of the top 20 in points have made all 8 shows so far and the other 2 made 7!

And what about the Batesville regulars that may join in on these four shows?  Jared Landers, Brandon Smith, Michael Murphree, etc. or the Houston area racers like John Whittington, Chris Brown and the like.  Maybe even a northeast Mississippi or northwest Alabama car or two may join us.  It sure would be great to have a Tennesse driver or two like a TJ Herndon or Bart Richardson race too.

The potential is there for these 4 races to be huge!  Hoosier G60s and American Racer KK704 tires are the only one's legal (sorry UMP guys!).  I know it's tough to look at competition like that with today's fuel costs and wonder if you should take on a challenge like this but if you're a player in this game or want to become a player in this Open Wheel Modified game, you need to enter and race these shows!  This is probably the Midsouth's biggest Modified week of 2007 and we want to do well where we can do it again in 2008 with maybe more tracks and make it a full blown Speedweek like the Late Models are doing over in Tenn, Al & Miss this week or like the ASCS Sprints are doing in a week or two.  We need your support to do it though.  Lots of great sponsors like Bad Boy Mowers, Mark Martin Ford, Larry Shaw Race Cars, Commercial Bank of Monticello and Marshall Mobile Homes are doing thier part, the rest is up to you!

Back to the OMT for a moment, round one was held June 2nd at Champion Park and also drew an identical 46 cars with almost identical circumstances as what Texas DIRT faced this week.  Weather had hit the track hard early in the day and put doubt in a lot of traveler's minds and just 35 miles west, Boothill was having a $1000 to win (won by Clevenger) that drew 40 cars of it's own so just like DIRT and Cowtown this week there were 86 cars between the 2 tracks.

And a word about this past Friday night too where in addition to that 31 count at Sabine (Many), they had 20 cars at Dixie Speedway in Farmerville, Louisiana where Kevin McCoy took the win.  Dixie is racing on Friday July 27th but will let the Modifieds have the night off and Monticello in turn will let the IMCA So. Sport Mods (Limited Mods) have the night off.  That, along with the way Fast Trax and Monticello have worked together and the way the OMT tracks have worked together and the way they continue to work togther around Columbus, NAS, Moultan, etc., is the kind of cooperation we need to see as often as possible!

The OMT concludes one week from this weekend on Friday, July 6th at 67 Texarkana Speedway and Saturday July 7th at Ark-La-Tex Speedway.  Each race pays $1000 to win and $200 to start on a $50 entry fee with the same two tires as the USMTS shows.  The 4-race points series will payout at Ark-La-Tex too and you never know what Gene -- "the King of Langiappe" -- will do.  (Langiappe is Cajun for "a little something extra."  Mooney's pretty good with that Langiappe too!)

Then mark it down!  USMTS Southern Series on July 26th at Batesville, July 27th at Monticello, July 28th at Fast Trax and July 29th at Boothill!!!!

And don't forget Hooks, there COULD be two more shows added before the Batesville show. Think it will happen?

An average car count for the USMTS Southern Series is 58. I am expecting no less than sixty for all those - last weekend in July - races.

One week vacation looms for me. Should I? Shall I?

I don't know David. I was hoping for two more but I'm about to settle for 4 really good ones from Thursday to Sunday. Almost out of time to make more happen but if we're successful with these, look for a Southern Series Speedweek next year.

60? You're braver than me! I'll take 40 of the best ones though. Really, 50 to 60 is not a bad bet. I'd rather low ball it because with racers, weather and competing shows, you just never know sometimes. I got a good feeling about these four!
