Carter-Maxwell Signs On As Title Sponsor For
6th
Annual Oklahoma State Championship

Oklahoma (August 21, 2012) – Carter-Maxwell of Bethany Oklahoma, one of the
nation’s longest tenure Goodyear racing tire
distributors, has signed on to become the title sponsor for the 6th
Annual “Oklahoma State Championship” featuring 360 winged “Champ Sprints”. The
event will be held at George Welch’s Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada
Oklahoma on Saturday night September 15th. As with the prior five
years, the Oil Capital Racing Series based
in Tulsa Oklahoma will sanction this special championship event.
This
years running of the OSC will award the champion with $2,000 to win along with
the much sought after acrylic OSC trophy. $1,500 is slated for the runner-up
position and $1,000 for the final podium spot. The championship feature will
also pay $350 to start. The OCRS warriors will be competing for a total purse
of over $11,000 in prize money plus multiple contingencies!

people at Carter-Maxwell have been super to work with these past couple of
seasons. I have known David Grace (Carter-Maxwell Engineer) along with the staff
at Carter-Maxwell for a long time. To see these fine people support OCRS as
they have done and to have them support us with the title sponsorship for the sixth
edition of the Oklahoma State Championship race, it’s just very humbling to be
honest.”
Earlier this month, Carter-Maxwell co-founder Shields "Jerry"
Maxwell passed away leaving the racing community in a state of mourning. Maxwell,
along with friend and partner Bob Carter started Carter-Maxwell in the late
50’s. In 1964, their business was flourishing and the business became the
southwest distributor of the famous Goodyear Racing Tires, a partnership
between the two companies that is still intact today. “Jerry was always
supportive to those that were either dedicated to auto racing or just racing
hobbyists,” said Grabel. “All of us that knew Jerry directly or indirectly are
going to feel his loss for a long time to come. He was just that influential to
the industry. OCRS offers our best wishes to his family.” In addition to the
cash prize money, Carter-Maxwell will provide the first ten non-qualifiers for
the A Feature with a $50 Goodyear tire certificate.

Of the previous five OSC events, there has yet to be a
two-time OSC winner. Broken Arrow Oklahoma’s Mike Goodman, a three time OCRS
champion, took the inaugural running of the OSC in 2007. The next season saw
Sapulpa’s Danny Smith claim honors. Andy Shouse of Oklahoma City took round #3
in ’09 while Moore’s Whit “Gasman” Gastineau got his hardware in 2010. Last
year was the wildest yet as Drumright Oklahoma’s Fred Mattox crashed just 25
yards from payday on a track that was receiving rain drops from a system that
had just moved in and taking full advantage was Glen Owens of nearby Pauls
Valley collecting his first OCRS main event victory and the title of “Oklahoma
State Champion”.
Will there
be a first time repeat winner in 2012? If so, who is the odds-on favorite to do
