I would love to her any stories about Bob and his racing from anyone who knew him. Here is part of his obit-

Robert Louis DeJong
Robert (Bob) Louis DeJong

Bob passed away on Friday, November 24, 2006 with friends and family at his side in Gresham, Ore. Bob, 73, was born in Berkeley, Calif., on December 23, 1932 to Jerry and Gladys DeJong. Bob enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1951 and served during the Korean War. Following his service in the military he was a member of the Sheetmetal Workers Union in California. Moving to Oregon, Bob became a partner in Crater Lake Marine starting his life long career in boat repair. Although Bob was always good at his work, it was clearly secondary to his love of driving race cars. Bob became a member of USAC and BCRA as a driver of sprint cars, midgets, and Indy cars. After a successful racing career, Bob received the honor of being inducted into the BCRA Hall of Fame.

I watched Bob race all through the 60's and 70's He drove for my father for a few seasons with BCRA. I don't remember a nicer guy and family from those good old days. We had alot of good times at Oakland, Old San Jose, West Capital, Baylands. And the list goes on. Rest In Peace Bob.

My memories of Bob were from the Santa Rosa indoor midgets in the 60's. Prior to the start of the main during introductions, he would wave a knock-off hammer when introduced.

No cages then, just a little roll bar.

RIP Bob

I knew Bob and Dick Atkins they both used to come by the shop where I worked. They came by becuase they were jusr starting out racing midgets and the shop owner had one. Which they both wanted a ride in i.

I remember a San Jose race were Sim Clarks car was driven by Bob, at the end of a practice session Bob drove towards the pit area blipping the engine to let floks know he was coming in. A hardtop driver by the name of Joe diaz was standoing right where Bob wanted to ge through to the sim clark pit area. He dindt think He should move, Bob blipped the throttle real good and loud and Diaz had to jump out of the way. He got upset and charged Sim,Sim had his mouth wired shut due to an incident with a car at his shop. Diaz gave Sim a shove and by this time Bob was out of the car and took one shot at Diaz!! Laid Him out right on the ground before any one could stop Him, After that level heads prevailed and it went no further than that.
