Heard the other day that WRG is all pi$$ed about the Capitani Classic on August 5 as they want it to be a sanctioned race and Toby K. is saying no.

IMO, good move by Knoxville by keeping it unsanctioned or tell them "yes" to Sunday and strip them off the Nationals instead would be better IMO.

Hopefully the Outlaws don't try to have a pi$$ing match over this and tell their platinum members they can't race Sunday or Monday (they'll just be hurting the fans IMO).

They are supposed to be able to run a track that hosts a W of O race so that should include Knoxville. As far as Osky, I don't know about that one. It never has been a problem.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

I think the plan originally was to have it be a WoO race, though I am not sure why Knoxville would pay the sanctioning fee when they're all going to be there anyway. Hopefully there is no funny business and we can enjoy a good preview of the Nationals on Sunday. Should be 50-60 cars there.

I think it might kill the Front Row Challenge though, we'll see.

Everything I have heard is that Knoxville has NEVER planned on having this event sanctioned. This is basically replacing the 410 show that normally runs on Saturday Night with an increased purse.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Outlaw teams are told they cannot participate (the question is, which ones will say "too bad, it's not against any rules in the rulebook or our platinum agreement" ) .

I'd say there will be somewhere around 60 cars on that Sunday night, but it may hurt Osky's car count on Monday (mostly due to some of the travelling teams not wanting to tear up a car).

Why would it hurt the front row classic? They are just running Sunday instead of Saturday at Knoxville.....

Most teams run Monday at Osky to tune up for the Nationals -- and some are racing at their local track or with the WoO on the Sat before Nationals. If there is a tune-up on Sunday (at the track that hosts the Nationals), WoO drivers (if allowed) and other invaders might opt to just run Knoxville Sunday (and not risk tearing up anything at Osky). The Capitani Classic is a first-year deal, so I don't think anybody knows for sure what is going to happen. What I know for sure is that swapping 305s for 410s devalues the Saturday night show at Knoxville, and has me wondering if it will really be worth $25.

I agree, I am not a big fan of this new schedule. I thought the last few years of having USAC in there was perfect. I realize they tried to move them to Saturday and have a super show Saturday, but obviously that didn't work out.

I'll still be there for the 360 Nats, but it won't be as special a show.

The increased number of 410's was the only reason for me to attend the 360 final night. Looking forward to the Sunday nite Capatani Classic! Ironman 55 on Saturday for me!

I think swapping 410s to Sunday is a better way to do it. The 360 Nationals is a phenomenal event and 360s put on just as good of a show as 410s do. Plus now the 410 race doesn't run head-to-head with the Ironman 55 so the Outlaws (as long as the WoO officials don't throw a fit about them running) will be able to run the last 410 show at Knoxville before the Nationals. I think Osky will be fine because the partiers will still go to the infield to get drunk and the race fans will come and watch the race because they enjoy the sport.

Just my thoughts.

As far as I'm concerned they ruined one of the best nights of racing of the
year by taking away the 410's from Saturday before the Nationals. The seats have
always been pretty empty the first two nights of the 360 nationals because many
still see them as fillers for the 410 show.

I didn't mind when they moved the 360 nationals to the week before the big
show and figured it would help get more butts in the seats on Saturday since
many take the week off work to hit the front row challenge and nationals anyway.
The Saturday before the Nationals was one of my favorite nights of the year
because you had many of the best non outlaw teams showing up and putting on a
hell show. Best night of racing for the spectators $$$ by far. Cheap tickets
plenty of room not elbow to elbow like the nationals and great racing. The 360's
will put on a good show but it won't be the same with 305's instead of the
410's. I may just save my money not go to any nights of the 360 nationals now
and go Sunday instead.

I really like the idea of having the 410's on Sunday Night.

This is a great business move for Knoxville.

However, the Saturday night of the 360 Nationals with the final regular 410 show before the big Nationals was a strong contender for the best one night of winged sprint car racing in the nation every year.

Still great racing to be seen in that show - but as a couple poster's above said - quality won't be the same. But I get why the track did it - could be a smart move on their part. I will be very interested to see what the attendance is like that Saturday versus the same night in recent years. The sunday race should be a quick hit. The effect it could have on Osky - don't know. I've never been big on those two races (although I'd like to see the non wing race). I'm really hesitant to judge it on the negative - but from everything I ever heard, and then saw on facebook lol - looked like the racing was often the 2nd focus. Always heard the term about going to a party and a race breaking out - I think I've seen shirts like that - but that just really ain't my thing. It's why we never went to the 410 nationals. The 360 Nat's has always been one of the most underappreciated events and it was always really, really good. As someone said above - we would see like 60 cars the first two nights - well over 150 the final night with over 50 of those being 410's (I admit - a delightful treat even to a 360 fan lol) and you didn't have to deal with the crowds like the 410 Nat's. Enjoyed that last part, even though I knew it wasn't great for the event/track. Side note - I thought, and still believe, they should invest more in that show - not less.

I've always argued in favor of the legitimacy of the 360ci sprints versus their 410ci counterparts - and while I still believe that.........replacing 410's with 305's will matter. Especially at Knoxville, where the premier class really is the 410's. Went to seven consecutive 360 Nationals and always loved it - hope this doesn't hurt it beyond the obvious sacrifice. One thing is for sure - the 360's will look faster than ever before lol.

I personally think the Capitani race could be run on the trip back East from Cali. in the fall, just one race, with or without the Outlaws, I would really think it would be in poor taste for the WRG to hold for ransom any member who participated,in this race. Platinum, silver, gold, or whatever their status, on the WRG contracted rules. I feel in the future a legal decision might have to be tendered for holding these members to participate in only WoO races, not the 24 hour rules,or any of that, just the preventing of a person who depends on this as his right to work. As,I said,I'm not pro WoO or pro member of WoO just get the crap ironed out and read the fine print before signing it.I think the Ralph race is a great idea no matter where or when its run.

In past years with the Saturday race before Nationals...(360 Natl championship night) the WoO havent all been in town to run as they were still travelling or racing elsewhere.....With the race on Sunday this year most if not all will be in Knoxville and probably run...if allowed to....that's why it may hurt the FRC in Osky.....I hope not howver as I love the FRC race....always fun

By dropping the 410s from Saturday nights program and also no USAC show on Sunday has us staying home until Monday morning. Saturday and Sundays usac show was my two fav nights. O well, takes about $400 bucks out of knoxvilles pockets and stays in mine.

I understand why Knoxville did this as I believe the Ironman 55 is that Saturday down in MO. This should increase car counts Sunday which makes up for USAC not being there...kinda. Although I really wish Knoxville and USAC could figure out how to have the USAC race at the facility that holds the biggest race of the year. Maybe TMAC can have the midgets and the 410 wingless cars race in Osky! As far as the Sunday show hurting car counts in Osky... if there are still 20 + cars there I'll be fine with. In the early days of the FRC not all the big names showed up, only a few...and that may be the ticket to seeing another repeat of what Jac did. With the quality of competition that shows up for that race now it's harder for someone to come from the back. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but when Jac won from the back I don't remember Donnie, Kinser, Swindell being there. Still a great couple of races in Osky I look forward to every year in addition to the other 8 in Knoxville.

Well my thought is give it a shot may be better may be worse. However any night of racin is better than no night of racing so I will be there. That said if the woo pulls that crap Shame on them but so what we may lose 10 cars I think the same cars that would of ran if it were on Saturday night will still be there plus a few others i think there will be at least 50 cars any that's a damn good show. I also think at best this hurts osky just a little but racers are racers and all the All Stars will be there. So go have a good time support the races you might just have a damm good time.

I agree that this makes the Saturday 360 show a bit of a snoozer and Knoxville will suffer at the gate. The A will be great, but the other mains don't carry the excitement or names the 410 Nationals do. SO.... here's my idea Knoxville... Make the Capitani Classic a 2 night 410 show. Run a preliminary show Saturday night with the 360's and lock the top 5 into the "Dash" for Sunday night. Then run a full show Sunday (with Outlaws) and take top 5 qualifiers who transfer through heats and add them to the dash. Run the dash to set the starting grid for first 5 rows, and fill the rest of the field like you normally would. Bump up purse. Pay $10k or $15k to win to make sure Outlaw, All-Star and other traveling teams want to race.

I think this is a great idea. Could even sneak the 305's into the Sunday night show - that way two classes compete in both saturday and sunday's show. Either way I love the idea - it's a way to keep the sensational quality of the Saturday night show and also have an exceptional sunday night show. I even like the format you have in mind. Great idea, hope the right people see/hear it some time.

Altho' I love the 360's I have never been to their Nationals because on Sat. night the 360's have been treated like the proverbial red headed step child - the A feature run last when the track is completely gone. This year it looks like they might have a chance to have a decent track to race on. I've been toying about making the 1600 mile round trip this year - but I've heard rumors that you can't camp at the track anymore and that there isn't much parking at the track. Is this so? What? No more gambling and drunken parties all night at the track - and no racers driving their 4 wheelers or mini bikes around the grounds at 3 in the morning with a beer can in one hand? And with the drought - I wonder if you can cook out at the track - assuming that there is still camping there.

Oh yes - when I check the results from Knoxville - it always seems to be a lot more passing in the 360 ranks than in the 410's. To me it sounds like the 360's might be putting on the better show. JMHO - altho' maybe "humble" shouldn't be there... Smile
