First - I am not affiliated with the track, etc. This would be Lone Star Speedway - Kilgore, TX.
This was one of the best races I went to last year. Great turn out of cars - great pay out - good track - great racing. Another thing I have to mention - the best concession stand I have seen - and they even opened up in the morning for those of us who camped out and they served a great breakfast. How many tracks have you been to that serve you bisquits and gravy in the early morning hours. I slept in - but I understand they also had eggs and bacon earlier.
The track doesn't gouge your pocket book to get into the races - and yet they pay a great purse to the racers.
This race is a win/win in my book. I go here - the Short Track Nationals - and maybe the 360 Nationals at Knoxville this year. Of course I'm always at the Chili Bowl. I only wish I still had the money to travel more like I used to - but now these are my "big 3".
Other tracks I like - Cowtown - Kennedale, TX. Limaland - Lima Ohio. I guess I like the shorter tracks where it is more driver than car/engine/setup/etc. There are a lot of other tracks I still want to go to.

Thanks for your comments and feedback carol14. We're glad you enjoyed your trip to LoneStar Speedway.
We were also
extremely pleased with the quality of racing and large field of sprint
cars that assembled at the LoneStar Sprint Nationals last October.
I'm not sure I can
remember how many years it's been since seeing that many sprint cars
(only) at a race in Texas...117 was the final tally.
Other than adding $20,000 cash to the purse for the Oct. 11-13, 2012 event; we have virtually changed nothing:
Same rules, same
unique format, two divisions of sprint cars (and no support classes), no
time trials...and we have kept the grandstand tickets at 1980's pricing
of a 3-day pass for $40 (adults)...all for a $120,000 cash purse event.
Please click www.darinshort.com/SCN.html for event flyer, rules, qualifying format, online registration, host hotels, current entry list & video highlights.
Enjoy the rest of
the summer & we hope to see many of you join us for what's sure to
be another wild 3-days of racing at the 2nd Annual $120,000 LoneStar
Sprint Nationals at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, TX October 11-13!
Here were the top 20 Sprint Car division money winners from the 2011 LSN:
Shane Stewart $ 13,000 Jason Johnson $ 7,350 Daryn Pittman $ 6,150 Johnny Herrerra $ 4,000 Gary Wright $ 3,800 Jack Dover $ 3,000 Seth Bergman $ 3,000 Brian Brown $ 2,175 Danny Wood $ 2,150 Tim Crawley $ 2,100 Travis Rilat $ 2,050 Brady Bacon $ 2,000 Matt Covington $ 2,000 Mike Goodman $ 1,750 Kolt Walker $ 1,300 Dustin Morgan $ 1,300 Channin Tankersley $ 1,300 Jeff Swindell $ 1,225 Brandon Corn $ 1,100 Joe Wood Jr $ 1,100

Darin, please clarify. ASCS lists this on their National schedule with a note "Non-point Special Event"....so if they receive no points, are they penalized if they do not participate. Are they participating just for the purse? ASCS rules/tech??

Thanks for your question.
This event remains sanctioned by ASCS, just as it was in 2011:
- ASCS will continue to tech the Sprint Car division cars, as they did in 2011; which went very smoothly. I don't think I recall one problem all weekend...no funny fuel detected, tire issues; etc.
- ASCS is not responsible for the event scoring and line-ups and such, since we are using our own qualifying format, purse structure, transponders and track officials (which is also the same as we arranged in 2011).

Glad you plan to join us again this year TxOutlaw.
We fully plan on continuing to grow this event into the future as well.
And if you're looking for convenient deals on lodging that weekend, we have several host hotels that are all within 7 miles of the track listed at the event website.
Please click http://www.darinshort.com/SCNfans.html for more info.
Although the race is still nearly 3 months away, the latest entry list continues to build.
Here are the latest entries with 7 states being represented. Registration is open through Monday of race week (Oct. 8) at the same pricing as it is now. Parking requests and car numbers are being fulfilled on a first-entered basis.

I will definitely be attending this again this year!
Last year was my first time at the Lone Star Sprint Nationals, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen!!!
If you live in or around that area of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Louisiana, this is a must to attend.

Tomorrow night Lonestar Speedway has the "Lonestar 25" for the Racesaver sprints. They've put added money in along with a lot of contingencies for everyone out of the top 5. I think most area tracks gave the sprints the night off so teams could attend.
This is one of our series regular tracks and we're glad to see Sam supporting the Racesavers (and sprints in general). We're hoping to see 30+ Racesavers tomorrow which would make for a great show.
On the bill too is the Ark-La-Tex Winged Modifieds... Several Southern Thunder Sprint drivers used to run this class like #28 David Forbis, #8a Alan Myers, and #16 Koty Adams who are all former feature winners in this class. And if you didn't know, 'ol Gary Wright and Jason Johnson used to drive wing modifieds back in the day too.
Anyway, should be a great night of racing!

Already know about it! If I didn't already have plans, I'd absolutely be in attendance.
By the way, you wouldn't happen to be Rick Forbis would you?

Thanks for your comments everyone.
Our goal when creating the LSN was to have a family-affordable, sprint car-only event; and when fans and teams leave at the end of the racing weekend that they want to return the next year.
Events of this size take a tremendous amount of work to produce, and it keeps us inspired to do our best when we hear feedback like this from fans and teams. It tells us we're on the right track. Hope to see many of you Oct. 11-13, it's going to be a lot of fun!
