Tulsa
Oklahoma (July 9, 2012) – The fourth installment of doubleheader sprint car
action is on the horizon as the Oil Capital Racing Series gets down to brass
tacks. The OCRS travelers will return to the Brill Motor Speedway in Meeker
Oklahoma on Friday night where current OCRS points leader Jamie Passmore of
Rose Oklahoma will look to double up on BMS victories having won the season
opener at BMS on April 27th. It was the first of seven feature
victories to date by the former 3-time series champion. The ever popular series
will then head 130 miles northeast to the Salina Highbanks Speedway where
Shayla “Princess” Waddell will look to defend her feature win at the Highbanks
back on May 19th. It was there that the teenage pilot from Oklahoma
City became the first woman to earn an OCRS feature victory in the touring
series. A win at BMS would be wildly popular for Waddell as it is the closest
track to her home.
The
opener in April for the chase of the “Goodyear Tire and Rubber Championship” at
BMS went well for the facility thus promoters Mark and Debbie Brill decided to
add a second date to bring the OCRS warriors back to the red clay arena. “I saw
that everyone had a good time and enjoyed themselves;” commented Brill.
“Everything worked out well last time. The fans and the race teams wanted OCRS
to return so we decided to add another date.”
Area
fans of nearby Oklahoma City and its suburbs have limited options to see sprint
car specials such as OCRS since the closing of the State Fair Speedway in 2010.
“We are excited to have another opportunity to provide quality sprint car
racing to the race fans from the Meeker / Oklahoma City markets;” said series
president Barry Grabel. “I have been in the racing industry in one form or
another
for several years and that market knows their racing as
much as they enjoy watching it. To be in a position to bring an action packed
sprint car series to the area is awesome. Last time we were there, my staff and
I were being thanked for racing at BMS clear up to the time we were loaded up
and were ready to head back to Tulsa. It was a great feeling to know so many
were grateful to see our show and what we displayed;” said Grabel. “Mark and
Debbie run a good program at their facility and OCRS is pleased to be returning
for what I expect to be another great show.”
MIKE GOODMAN RETURNS TO OCRS!
Mike
Goodman Returns This Friday Night / Phil Pace Photo
Friday
night will also see the return of 3-time OCRS champion Mike Goodman to the
fold. Goodman, who won titles in 2004-05 and 2007, has been MIA in 2012 due to
business commitments and tending to his son’s baseball endeavors. Fans will see
Goodman back in the #4am / Premier Homes / Twister chassis sprinter owned by
former OCRS driver Travis “Hollywood” Jenkins. Goodman has multiple Tulsa
Speedway championships on his resume as well and is a strong force to be
reckoned with anytime he straps in an open wheel car. His peers know all to
well of Goodman’s talented skill and experience thus he strengthens the quality
of the field that will be on hand at BMS this Friday night.
Another stout competitor lurking in the shadows is Joe Wood Jr. of OKC.
Wood Jr. will once again be seated into JD and Jannie Porter’s famed “Hog
Wagon” and the team is looking to settle a score at BMS. In that season opener,
the team was citied for a violation and Wood Jr. made a miraculous drive from
the 20th hole to net second behind Passmore. Those who witnessed the
charge said it was a sight to behold. Look for the red #71 to make another
solid run at BMS Friday.

$1500 BACK ROW CHALLENGE LOOMS
The
Oil Medics “Back Row Challenge” bonus now hovers at $1500 for the challenger
that accepts to start at the rear of the field and conquers their foes to the
checkered flag first. Since the start of the 2012 OCRS racing season, the
winner of the “Pole Dash” was the sole individual who had the option to start
tail back to earn the cash bonus as supplied by the Oil Medics, a professional lubrication
services company based in Ft. Worth Texas. Beginning with the Friday night
event at BMS, should the winner of the “Pole Dash” decline the option to start
in the scratch position in an attempt to win the Oil Medics offering, the
runner-up in the dash will now have the opportunity to accept the challenge.
In
addition, the Action Auto Collision company of Tulsa has also offered up $200 in
cash to the driver that accepts the BRC regardless of success. However, if that
driver were to succeed in the challenge, that driver will have a net take of
$1700 for a nights work in bonus cash alone! Who will gamble their stating spot
for a shot of more than twice the regular payday? Will it be your favorite
driver? Don’t leave your seat at the conclusion of the dash race as the
decision to “take” or “not to take” will get very interesting.

Saturday night will be a
night for many to take note of in attending the Highbanks at Salina. Sprint car
fans are eager to see the return of their favorite stars of the OCRS sprint car
series and the one driver that many are anxious to see is the one called the
“Princess”, Shayla Waddell as she swept the program (heat, dash and feature)
when OCRS last turned a wheel on Salina soil. From the front straight interview
after the dash to the interview after the feature, it was clear that the fans
of Salina were ecstatic over the success the young lady had that warm windy
night.
Miss Waddell
Waddell will have her work cut out for her as not only
will she have the current points leader in Jamie Passmore to contend with, but
also the likes of Sapulpa Oklahoma’s Danny Smith (second in OCRS points), Fred
Mattox of Drumright (third), 14-time OCRS feature winner Whit “Gasman”
Gastineau and multi-time feature winner (including the prestigious Enid Winter
Nationals winner) Rafe Essary from Stillwell Oklahoma and many others will look
to take some Salina hardware of their own back to tranquility base.
Race
fans will get an extra treat at the Highbanks Saturday night as the national
modifieds of the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) will also be on the on the card. Whether your taste is
door rubbing side by side at speed action or the flair of the open wheel “hang
it on the edge” style, there will be plenty of nail biting action to tell your
friends about come Sunday. Said OCRS president Barry Grabel: “When I first got
word from the officials of the Salina Highbanks what they had in mind, I
pondered for a moment the tracks position as to the overall amount of purse
money they were looking to commit to as many tracks wouldn’t book such a
combination on the same night. Once I was convinced they (Salina officials)
were sure that’s what they wanted to do, my response was: Heck yea, lets rock
n’ roll!”
OCRS
fans will also get to see the talented rookie Harli White at both BMS and at the
Salina Highbanks. The team joined the OCRS circuit five races into the season
and Miss White has looked great ever since. Her success in micro sprints and
her public awareness of her relationship with the late Donnie Ray Crawford has
made her a fan favorite wherever she goes. White has competed at BMS in
non-sanctioned OCRS events but Friday night will be her first at BMS while
carrying the OCRS banner. As for the Highbanks, it will be Miss White’s first
go around on the track many like to refer to as “Eldora Jr.”
