While this is not four wheel open wheel racing, this heat from yesterday's World Team Cup round in Poland yesterday is one of the greatest races (of any type) I have ever seen.

That's at the top of the list but doubt it's better then the Walt James Last Man Standing Dash that's coming up this month (July 28th)...Fastest 4 cars that want to compete, (back up cars allowed) 4 cars, 4 laps, last place fall off, 3 cars 3 laps, last car falls off, quick pit stop for fuel and adjustments, 2 cars 2 laps.

There has been better finishes "at the line" but by god THAT was an awesome - awesome race. Just what I miss seeing. The guy that won, is he new? Rookie maybe? Never heard of him. wink

Thanks for sharing Scott!

This race was held under a blanket. Not just any blanket, but a baby blanket.

Yes, John, he is a rookie. This year is about the 35th reincarnation of his rookie season. Greg has the same enthusiasm and zest for the sport that he did when I met him as a 10-year-old back in 1980. And, personally, he has not changed one bit. Still the same as when he was a little kid walking around with a huge "Grin," on his face.

By the way, this was his first meeting in nearly two weeks as he was involved in a serious crash in Czechoslovakia or Denmark) and was to sore to ride. Under normal circumstances, he would not have rode yesterday, but it was an important meeting for the USA.

I hadnt heard about his crash but taking that into consideration, that makes the awesome ride that much more spectacular. I remember watching him in the junior division "back in the day". Greg has lived an incredible life and seen more things and places that he could have ever imagined. Great way to live your life. Hancock is da man!

Thanks for always posting speedway tidbits Scott. In my busy schedule, you have directed me to speedway sightings that I would have otherwise missed. Always appreciative of you doing that. By all means, please keep doing those "promo tips"!

Remember the Thursday night Speedway Bike races outside turns 3 & 4 at Ascot? Used to go all the time. Always thought the Speedway Bikes were 2 wheeled spring cars. Awesome racing.

What made this race even more intriguing was the fact that Denmark, Russia and Poland were all fighting for the win and the automatic bid to the World Team Cup Final in Sweden this coming Saturday. If you take a look at the last corner, if the rider in fourth, Micheal Jepsen Jensen of Denmark, had passed the rider in third, Russia's Emil Sayfudinotov, Denmark, Russia and Poland would all have tied for first and would have to settle it with sudden death runoff race. However, Jepsen Jensen fell short by a half bike length.

Next semi final is Monday at 11:00 AM featuring England, Australia, Germany and the Czech Republic. Let me know and I will post links to watch it here or you can find them on my Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/SpeedwayMotorcyclePhotos

Thanks a bunch. It brought me back to the years at Costa Mesa when Penhall,

5 colors and all the rest of the elite competed on a weekly basis. We did no realize

then what a outstanding group of world level riders were racing there weekly.

This absolutely was one of the very best in rides without question you will ever see.

Thanks again, I appreciate it.

Better than Emil and Hampel at Western Springs?

Maybe...

All I know, the speedway I have been watching this season has been fantastic.

The Emil/Hampil war was amazing, but I think I like this one a little bit better. All four riders led at one point and the lead changed hands nine times. And, everytime there was a pass whether it be at the front or the back, it affected which country was going onto the final on Saturday or the last chance on Thursday. The only thing that could have made it a better race would have been if Jepsen Jensen had passed Emil at the line and forced a three rider runoff.
