Hopefully the fine folks that operate this track plan to put forth a lot of effort on track prep no need to be stingy with the water truck They haven't hosted a sprint car race in a few years. The last time i went to an ascs race there the track was ready to lay rubber before hot laps even got started. Then mother nature dumped some rain and gave the surface some much needed moisture. This place is fast and Jason Johnson put on a show. It's a great potential market for sprints having a track inside a city of 400,000 people and I d expect a big turn out of newbie fans. I just hope management consults with the series and preps a great surface.
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

ASCS Sprint Cars Return to South Texas Speedway 5-27-12 J.M. Hallas, Corpus Christi, Tx.(May, 21st, 2012) The high-flying, winged-warriors of the American Sprint Car Series(ASCS) make their return to South Texas Speedway for a special Sunday, Memorial Day Weekend 2-day show. After several year's hiatus, the Gulf South Regional stars will be in action on the newly reconfigured, ¼ mile, semi-banked, track. South Texas Speedway picked up the touring series after an open date became available. "When the date opened up, we jumped on it," said general manager Owen Pittman. "I was happy to get the sprints cars back in south Texas again. Fans in this area don't get the chance to see these cars very often unless they travel to other tracks. They always provide exciting action for the spectators." Defending Gulf South Region champion, Ray Allen Kulhanek leads the contingency into the Memorial Day Weekend action, with races the previous two nights in Beaumont and Willis. Multi-time regional champ, Brandon Berryman comes into the weekend on Kulhunek's heels, with Michael McNeil a close third. Travis Elliott and Beau Smith round out the top five in the 2012 points race. As part of the holiday weekend the track will host a 'Salute to the Troops' flag presentation for all participants, plus the Steve Tomlinson Topless Memorial for Limited Modified paying $600 to win. Street Stocks will run for $400 to win under South Texas Shootout rules, with Pure Stocks, E-Mods, and Go-Karts will also hitting the track for Sunday evening events. "As a tradition we roll out every car in the pits carrying an American flag," added Pittman. "We feel it's an awesome opening ceremony honoring all of our fallen troops and remembering what Memorial Day is all about." Saturday night will be a regular night of racing for the Limited Modifieds, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, E-Mods, Limited Late Models, Sport Compacts, and Go-karts. Not to be left out, the new Turn 5 bar features live music after the races, with the Midnight River Choir on Saturday night, and the Tejas Brothers in concert Sunday night. Saturday night spectator gates open at 6:00pm, with racing starting at 7:30pm. Adults $10, children 12 and under free. Sunday night gates open at 6:00pm, racing at 7:30pm. Adults $15, children 12-6 $5, 5 and under free.

Lots of classes of cars. With temps in the 90s Sunday I hope they put 500 laps on the water truck. I'd love to help these guys out with some more corporate sponsors in corpus christi for sprint events in the future!!!
