By the way, here are a few answers to questions that may come up

The nightime dedication is for the Fairgrounds

You will see how the walls for the grandstands were poured on the ground and stood up.

What the land looked like when it was just.............well, ..land.

The thrill show was not Joie chitwood's ,but from Swensons Thrillcade- competitor for dates against chitwood.

The sprint car race was in 1954 we believe, an IMCA show. That's all we know for now on that event, but you can bet a good solid dollar it had some heavy names in the field.

The AAA (USAC by 1957) midget race had Rodger Ward at fast time in April 1955. Very little record of this show exists, it may have been an add-on show during a south central tour to include Tulsa. 20 yr old AJ Foyt was there in his dad's midget- he spun.Lloyd Ruby made it in but he broke. George Amick won in the Selders Graham special---George died at Daytona in a roadster in 1959, and that was the day it was decided to keep indy cars out of Daytona.

This is also the only film known to have footage and proof of the original direction of the dragstrip. The direction was changed after someone crashed thru and across May avenue and into the parking lot of the lumberyard---bad brakes. the change was made by 1957 for the NHRA Nationals, which also ran in 1958. The Nationals- the bgi kahuna for the NHRA, has been held at Indy every since from what I understand.

yep, OkC has history.

By the way--the midget portion of this film is at 'normal speed', meaning they really were going that fast!
