Scott Hall Wins Season Opener at Chico
CHICO, CA- (3-10-12) – Rio Linda’s Scott Hall had dreamed of this
moment for a long time.Hall and his
family grew up watching the races at Silver Dollar Speedway and one day had
hoped to not only race at the track but also get a win.Last night, Hall led most of the main event
and won the season opener for the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Shootout
Series.The race coincided with the
Silver Cup Race of Champions at Chico. It was a family affair for the Halls as
special guest of the speedway Shawn Danner was in attendance for the first time
and got to see his godmother’s son win the main event.
“Tonight’s track
was very technical,” said Hall while being interviewed by Ron Lingron.“I just tried to hit my marks and make no
mistakes.”He also added, “Not too bad
for the third night out with the VanLare’s #56v.I guess third times a charm.”Lingron then moved over to the Pit Boss,
Tommy Hall, who added, “This car that won tonight is for sale.I’d say this is a good race car to buy.”
Bigg’s
resident Cody Smith moved out to the early lead. However, Smith drifted up in turns three and
four and surrendered the lead to Hall. The track was slick and treacherous all night due to the second night of
racing and the high winds that pounded the surface throughout the event. This did not allow for a lot of passing but
turned the race into a drivers track.Any mistake and the driver behind could pass at ease.Yet, if you made your line work, it was tough
for the driver behind you to make a pass. The race ran non-stop until lap 11 when David Sprigg stopped on the
track after contact with another driver. Also stopping on the same lap was Mitch Miller.Miller stopped off the track in turn
four.
On
the restart, Terry Schank Jr. moved around Smith for the second spot.Schank is always one of the stronger
competitors in the series and now was his time to challenge Hall for the
lead.Last nights wingless winner Dave
Johnson was the biggest mover in the main event.Johnson started 13th and was able
to finish in the fifth.Bill Aton was
another driver able to make some good moves on the track.Aton finished on the podium in the third
spot.
As
the laps were winding down Schank did close in on Hall. However, Hall was able to hit his marks and
not make a mistake. This allowed him to
hold a car length advantage over Schank at the finish line.As Hall crossed the stripe he pumped a fist
up and out of the roll cage to show his happiness with the win.Schank was second and Aton was third. The drivers should be commended for racing a
good clean event and handling the tough racing conditions with
professionalism.
Terry
Schank Jr. won the first heat race.Jeremy Hawes, last weeks Sherm Toller Memorial winner, finished in the
second spot.Scott Hall won the second
eight lap heat race.Cody Smith came
across the line in second.
Braedon
Enso turned the fastest lap in group qualifying at a 15.429.
