I found out two days ago that I'll be going to Philadelphia this Saturday and would like to try going to The Grove next Friday while I'm out there, looks like it's about 2 hrs outside Philly. Any words of wisdom on going there, and if anyone has made that drive, what's it like?
Thanks

I've been there with CRA and SCRA. It's a neat place. Straightaways longer than Manzy with turns like Ventura. When we were there you kind of had to compromise on gear so you could get off the corners but still not run out of gear at the end of the straight. You can stand right next to the guardrail on the inside of turn four. The sound of the non-wing cars with the motors pulled down low on revs grunting their way off the corner and then screaming by the end of the straight, that was something. The bridge across the back stretch looks like it would be exciting during a race. It appears to be just high enough to not get hit but just low enough that if you were on it you know you'd get hit. You certainly won't find more rabid sprint car fans anywhere else in the country. People took time off from work to watch us work on the cars in the hotel parking lot. Just make sure you boo Rahmer and you'll fit in just fine.

Ditto to what Rich said. It is worth the drive through the green countryside.

By all means check it out! It's one of the most historical tracks in the country as you probably know. I used to go there a few times a year before signing up with Uncle Sam....would have gone more often if I wasn't involved with a modified team....
You used to be able to go under a tunnel by the first turn and watch from the infield - don't know if you can still do that....if nothing else, hang out down there and watch warmups - it's amazing watching them come through there!

The tunnel was still there 2 years ago during PA speedweek. A must visit track. It is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours outside of Philly out in the cornfields., if my memory is correct. Well worth the drive.
Go for it!

I did get lost - totall my fault, so it is closer to 2 hours - depends on traffic. Most of the drive is on the I-76 turnpike (toll road). Be careful around Mechanicsburg - they had speed traps and people were getting busted right and left. Of course, this was right around July 4, so maybe they were nailing out of towners.
