For Luv and not the Money Thank You Tony Stewart
Thank you Tony Stewart
Thank you Tony Stewart for the greatest exposure of dirt track racing EVER. Thank you for all of the competitors who's HUGE smiles showed, everyone just how much fun they were having. Thank you for Bill Elloitt and Ryan Newman for showing everyone how serious and how hard people race at the dirt track. Thank you for all the car owners that put there cars on the line so, drivers from Formula 1 to Drag Racing could run this show. Thank you to Darrell Waltrip for his conveying his excitement. Thank you for Adam Petty and his vision of the Victory Junction Gang. Thank you for the Petty family for all that they have done for racing and for the kids of the Victory Junction gang.
This was the greatest dirt event I have ever seen, and it was done for Love, and not for money. We have the greatest people in the sport of racing. Every week 1000's of great dirt track people head for their home track, or pull hundreds, or thousands of miles to compete, and put on a show for the greatest fans of any sport. They do it for Luv not for Money. I have never been prouder of our sport.
I think like the 1979 Daytona 500 put NASCAR in main stream of America, Tony's Prelude to the Dream will bring dirt racing to that level. What do you think?

I was unable to watch this race, but am delighted to read the above. Stewart, Kahne and Blaney put back way more into dirt-track than anyone has a right to expect of them.

I got to watch the race via HBO, and I thought it was GREAT! To see the drivers that came from many different kinds of racing, so competitve on dirt and then seeing actual SMILES on their faces after the race was waaay cool. I want to thank Tony too, for giving back to dirt and for giving to all the charities that he's done over the years. This was truely an event that was a hit with children, fans (NASCAR and dirt), and the drivers!!!! Great event, can't wait til next year!

I did not get to see the race, but I really appreciate what Tony did. Not only for the fans but the sport of dirt track racing. Was listening to sirius radio nascar and heard someone say Tony has just uncovered the next IROC series. Take it to diffrent tracks around the country and let ppl really see this sport we are so crazy about. Oops, should only speak for myself ! Regardless, I am happy he did it, I am proud of the drivers who got out of their element to try something new for the sake of charity. That shows class. I tip my hat to all of them. Here's to the future of dirt track racing. One more thing.... Did Carl Edwards do a backflip off the tailtank? lol.

He did the flip off of the window. Then he threw his fist in the air as if it meant something to him. Sincerity at it's finest. I would like to know how their times stack up to the qualifiers for THE DREAM. They showed they are real race car drivers after all.

The difference in track layout may change the lap times for quals today from year's prior, but the lap records at the big E for full-blown late models range from 15.2 to 15.8. These were "limited" late models and the qualifying times were from 17.8 to mid 18's. The best judge will be to see what the 'open' cars do in quals today and just figure that the limiteds should inherently be a second or two slower.
Yes, Carl did his backflip, but it was from the top of the door from the cockpit. Late models don't have tail tanks.
From the videos I saw of HBO's coverage (before copyright laws snatched them off the net) it truly did seem that all of the drivers were having a ball and were genuinely into this event.
Edit: After reading the release on Eldora's website stating that they are/were 800HP late models, I halfway have to think I was wrong in saying they were limiteds. I know in last year Prelude they weren't full-blown late models. Can anyone clarify for a fact what class/engines this year's cars were running? I know from the videos I saw, they sure did sound like full-blown lates...

I think for credibility purposes in the long term amongst race fans[who will be advertising this race for a while by "word of mouth"] these should be the big boy cars. We wanted a war, a squaring off, no points, no PR jungles of fans and VIPs. We wanted to know WHO would come down here and cut into the mud and SHOW he has the heart. We got that.
PS- could someone post todays top times for a comparison.

Just a note to say they were full blown top of the line late models athe could run with any late model in the country.I know 2 of the cars came from my aera and are truley some of the best and are some of the fastest in the country. Thanks Tony for your dirt track support. I also look forward to seeing Tony and his team at Osky Iowa.

That motor Ernie Elliot built for Bill sounded like a sprint car motor in quals. Bill said Ernie gave him way too much motor - it sounded REAL healthy Too bad he tore up the car so soon in the show...

Thanks for the corrections. Like I said, they sure did sound like 406/430s but I just assumed it was still a limited class like last year.
Like they say about what happens when you assume...
