That sure don't look like the Ken Sweet I remember, he was bald and seem I remember he always had a beard, I thought he was driving his own deal back then around this time??

That's AJ in the Red/White/Blue cap at rear of car in last pic and looks like Bill Cates 58 car next to AJ's car and the 65 of James Skinner far background.

OK, Mike should know , just does not look like Ken to me.

They have changed the track at Lawton, took down the ol Pipe fencing except for south end of pit area , changed up the Pit area and added more to the backstretch and SW corner got a new ticket booth but one thing has not changed since I can remember is the ol Grandstands and the Announcer/Scoring Booth and the concessions underneath the grandstands, that 3rd shot with stands in background off of turn 3 not much has changed and that shot was back in the early 70's.

JD,

You are right, it is not Ken Sweet packing the track but AJ Little's pit man. I think his first name was Wayne and his nick name was "Big-un". The first photo on this series of photos is in fact Ken Sweet driving Little's super this one night at Lawton. I think Rusty took this photo. Yes, the old track still has landmarks that hasn't changed. One thing that will never change for me is all the great memories I have and being able to have seen all those great races from the old coupes which are still my favorite era to the present day ASCS races.

I think he Wayne Big Un) might have worked at a Car Dealership as well back then, maybe Phillip Aubrey Chevrolet???, seemed lot's of racers worked either at Dealerships or Sears back then, what was it back in the 70's some 4 racers worked at Sears Automotive when it was there at 11th & Gore Blvd.

Jr. Bruner,Johnnie Stinnett, Randall Busbee,AJ Little and I thought maybe Charles Yarborough did as well , but almost for sure about the first 4.

Ken filled in for AJ a couple of times that I remember ,often wondered why??.

You have any pics of Clinton Singin 5 yellow/orange paint combo, got a few of it but only in black/white pics.

Yep the other couple of things that have not changed since it start is the Red Clay and the Rocks.

JD,

Got lots of photos of Clinton's #5 when he first started running it in 1972 to the end after Little totaled it out at Oklahoma City in 1976. My buddy went to Clinton's dealership on 2nd street and took photos of the car after the wreck still on the trailer. I'll send you some shots. You are talking about the Don Edmunds car or the Dale Parson car? I have shots of that car also.

Mike

Hey guys this is Mike Little, the guy in my dad's car packing the track is Wayne Nichols, he was the pit stewart in lawton for a long time. The guy that painted my dads car is Larry Freeman and he still lives in Lawton and he also painted Billy Browns #11 yellow car and with those designs on it. and p.s. Big un was called Big un for a reason.... He was too damn big to get into a super modified he name was Dale Kovacs.

Looks like the narrow bodied car AJ drove in the early 70's was # 6 & #10 and then prolly Doug Joyner bought it and drove it , he bought a lot of AJ's Ol stuff and he ran # 7.

Yep the #10 car. Gregory's son stated the car was built about 1970.
