Seems to me the racers purse for winning this "prestigious" race is a joke compared to the amount of revenue generated over the 2 weeks of events taking place. Show the racers the MONEY

I have no problem with the purse and it seems like approx 200 drivers per year don't either. What would be the point of paying more money....more cars? Higher ticket prices?
Considering the Chili Bowl is much more costly to put on than a normal race and the event lost a ton of money the first few years....I say good for Lanny and Emmit for whatever they are able to make on this show. They perservered and deserve it.

You know what the purse is, thats in black and white. But what is the cost for renting the building, building the track, payroll, permits and all the other unknown expences. Personally I would need to know that info before making such a claim.

Didn't know this was any of your business. Anyway, in terms of midget racing $10,000 to win is a pretty good payout. Also, track isnt large enough to do much wear and tear on the engine. This race is all about prestige and adding to the purse would only mean higher ticket prices. If you have ever been to the chili bowl you will know that its not possible for these drivers to race any harder than they already do. Have yet to hear any racers argue the current purse. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

You really think you've got that good of a shot at beating Sammy that you should even be concerned about it?

Now, now, you wouldn't want to cut in to Emmetts and Lanny's profit. To hear them say it "we barely break even", yeah right.

Jeff, they also have the Tulsa Shootout the week before with a 1000+ competitors to help pay for all the things you mentioned in your post.So I don't think that their not making a pretty good profit in those two weeks.

Always someone trying to tell someone else how much they should be making, happens to me all the time in my own business. Worry about your own bottom line dude, or go start your own legendary event and reap the rewards yourself. What are you going to do, start an occupy Chili Bowl?

Ya, that week they also have no crowd. Cracks me up with these people acting like they know what is going on. I bet there is not much profit. Insurance, facility rental, payroll, equipment cost just to name a few of the things that must be paid. Not to mention that the place really dow not hold many spectators. If an event was that easy to make money at, more people would be doing it......

Agree. I think number45 needs to create and start his own event, and get Tyson Chicken to sponsor it, then he would have a poultry purse.

You seriously think the drivers that run the chili bowl are attempting to make money? Lots of them are renting rides just to run the damn thing. $10,000 to win...$3,000-$7,000 to rent a ride! Yeah, sounds like they're real concerned with the purse! Sammy for example, only runs his midget in Tulsa. How much did it cost to build? How many times would you have to win to just break even? He and Kevin are probably the only ones close to even making a $1 from the place.
I myself haven't raced ANYTHING in 8 years, but IF I had an extra $5,000 sitting around I would probably be wrestling one of them lil bastards around the Expo Center. AND IF I WON, You can keep the money, cuz I just won the F*&%#NG CHILI BOWL and I don't care!!!!
do it in the dirt

The shootout..the week before makes enough money to pay all the expenses.1000+ competitors plus all the pit passes and they only give trophies no purse..they don't need a crowd...the chili bowl is all gravy......not complaining..just wish i had a piece of that pie.....

You guys need to go talk to anyone who raced at the indoor midget race in Kansas City. The promoter lost his shirt. Drivers never got paid. Between the first year and the second year, the promoter was trying to do some special midget shows throughout the year in the KC area to build up his indoor race. Now no one will talk to him.

Your info is slightly off...the shootout has some PRO classes and some AMATEUR classes, at least they did when they had kart classes there...the amateur classes were trophies only and had a cheaper entry fee...the pro classes do race for a purse...The ECOTEC midgets, the 1000cc upright minisprints and some of the 600cc micro classes all race for $1,000 to win, $500 for 2nd, and $100 for 10th thru last in the A... THats approx 4 grand in purse per class and probably 5 classes or more that all race for that purse.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the

the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

Agree 100% here. There are too many people out there that don't think about the actual expenses in putting on an event like that. Between the big expenses you also have the countless minor expenses that really add up. People who make complaints like this are the same ones who complain at work all the time and say "if I was running this place it would be so much better" when in fact they would take over and the company would go belly-up in a month. And what's the problem with making a profit? Those who put the show together deserve a reward for their efforts, as well as having money sitting in the checkbook for improvements to the following years events as well as start-up costs.

Now about you jumping on the Chili Bowl you obviously don't take all the ancillary funds that are paid out of "all this money" they are taking in......example ,a good example,I run a maintenance company, mechanical maintenance,I do a ton of work for a huge paper mfg. company, they have a job for me to do 2100 miles from home,it will take ten days to go and come back, for six men,to get the job and continue to get other work just handed to me w/o bidding I must bid below 50K and includes everything I must buy these guys plus all my expenses, trucks and insurance and rooms and food and a few beers afterward all out of my pocket even a pack of chewing gum because we are not home....coffee break coffee and snacks and all ....we went did the job got paid I sat down and figured it all out my bid was 47,955.00 my expenses including everything you can think of was 45,100,now thats how much I made and every body got paid, everything is paid. Now I was just given a 850K job near home,50 miles away from my company,so you figure it out wise one,I still gotta eat crow sometime to eat Turkey thanksgiving and Xmas so don't knock a business until you get knee deep into one,no matter what venue you got goobers enough to get involved in, you do what it takes to succeed,do you realize if even one guy got hurt and had to go to the ER would do to my insurance costs and all my guys are safe workers, think again before you go worrying about how much money people make.
