Could there be a more signficant design for a supermodified during this era? With just
a little research I was able to think of thirty race teams in Kansas and Oklahoma
that raced with this design. Including the Ray Cates team with driver Harold Leep,
the 6-8 cars out of Dodge City with drivers Herby Copeland and Dale Reed,
the Schippert cars out of Junction City with drivers that included Grady Wade,
Ron Fowler, and Roger Thompson, and the Madden cars out of OKC, with Aaron,
and others, including Grady Wade. I also counted at least 10 track championships,
and several NCRA wins as well.

I think 'timing' had a lot to do with it too. But yes it is the most influential name in the dirt track supermodified category.
Luther Brewer noted Edmunds was looking over both is #97, and the Jelly #99 when they were at a race somewhere. It looks to me like Edmunds had furthered the basic design that had been forming already. But when he got the cover of Hot Rod, and this region was in need of a safer faster race car- they either bought or copied what they thought was his design.
Edmunds became the stock answer for the monorail supermodified design. Even today I'll see on other message boards where they will call a Nance, Parson, Walker, and so on by one name -"Edmunds".

Brian26,
Can't think of any supers more significant than the two mentioned. Luther's super
was dominate in 1969, winning over 40 races, and three track championships, on
three totally different tracks., Topeka, Knoxville, and Olympic. And When you consider
that over a 5 year period this car had three different owners, Brewer, Cunningham, and Hanna,
as well as three different drivers, Goodwin, Williams, and Dosher, and amassed 5 track
championships, and the Knoxville Nationals in 1967, thats one hell of race car.
The Jelly Wilhelm #99 didn't race near as often as the Brewer 97/ Cunningham 14,
but when it did race, with mainly Harold Leep, but also some of the best in that era,
it was one of the very finest supers of the that time. Harold's run at Eagle, Nebraska, in 1968
is legendary in super modified circles.
If those two cars were used as the basic blue print for the Edmunds #54, no wonder it
was so successful.
