What is the format for LOA?

What is the format for Saturday's race, the usual c,b and a

Any chance they could utilize something similiar to the Trophy Cup format, other than inverting the main. I am sure the fans and drivers would rather see more racing than sitting around and talking with each other, especially after seeing two great nights of action on Thursday and Friday

SATURDAY NIGHT:NO QUALIFYING

6 HEATS: 10 laps, 8 cars with all 8 cars inverted by points. 36points will be given for 1st place and minus 3 points for every position thereafter (example 2nd 33). Racing for points only.

TRANSFERS: 1st thru 20th in points transfer to Saturday “A”Main.

21st thru 40th to Saturday “B” Main.

41st thru 48th, plus 3 transfers from each Saturday “D” Main, to Saturday “C” Main.

We will run three Saturday “D” Mains and transfer 3 cars from each “D” to the Saturday “C” Main.

“D” MAIN 1: 10 laps, 11 cars line up according to points straightup 49th position and above (example 49, 52, 55, 58). Top 3 finishers transfer to Saturday “C” Main.

No points awarded. “D” MAIN 2: 10 laps, 11 cars line up according to points straightup 50th position and above (example 50, 53, 56, 59).

Top 3 finishers transfer to Saturday “C” Main. No points awarded. “D” MAIN 3: 10 laps, 10 cars line up according to points straightup 51st position and above (example 51, 54, 57, 60).

Top 3 finishers transfer to Saturday “C” Main. No points awarded. “C” MAIN: 15 laps, 17 cars line up according to points straightup. 8 cars, 41st thru 48th in points, plus 9 transfers from “D” Mains. Top 4 finishers transfer to Saturday “B” Main.

No points awarded. “B” MAIN: 25 laps, 24 cars line up according to points, with top6 cars inverted. 20 cars, 21st thru 40th in points, plus 4 transfers from “C” Main.

Top 4 finishers transfer to Saturday “A” Main. No points awarded. “A” MAIN: 50 laps, 24 cars line up according to points with acomplete inversion. 20 cars 1st thru 20th, plus 4 transfers from the “B” Main. 150 points awarded for 1st place and minus 5 points per position thereafter. There will be an open red flag thrown after 10 laps or more, if there is a yellow flag, for refueling only. If no yellow flag has been thrown, at lap 35 an open red will be thrown for fuel only.

Don't invert the whole main, start it straight up, or invert 6 or something. But with this format, the fans will get their tickets worth, the winner on Saturday will have to pass some cars unlike Windom last year. It doesn't cost the promoter much more money, just a little for heat races, but they can make that up on concessions. Every driver gets to race on Saturday in a meaningful race. But if Perris and USAC want to stick with the usaul C, B and A main well....... that's their choice, but I sure more fans would go on Saturday with a format change. For the first time in the Ovals History, I'm thinking of only going Friday. I guarantee you for the foresable future, I will always attend the trophy cup for their format because it guarantees a great race on Saturday night. Unfornately, the same is not true at the Ovals as an example the winner passed no cars on Saturday night. I am doubtful their will be changes, but the Friday show seems like a barnburner this year with $9k going to the winner. That probably pays more than the combined winning share of the main events on Thursday and Friday, and I am guessing more than 2nd place on Saturday Night. I wonder what the other teams that are not elegible to compete think about this race, I know 4 teams qualified through the year to get in, but how does a non-regular USAC sprint car driver become elegible for the big cash, just askin. As a fan, I couldn't ask for more than Levi Jones, Mike Spencer, Nic Faas, Chris Windom and Kyle Larson gunning for $9K, on Friday the fans are definitely winner besides the guy who takes the $9k!!!!

Thanks aspheit

All I can say is WOW for Saturday. Thank you to Perris and USAC (or whoever) made the changes for Saturday Night's program

Qualifying and heat races for Saturday I guess I will be going all 3 nights with this format Smile !

Better run good on Thursday and Friday to lock in the Elite 8

A little curious why they are taking the top two from heat races on Saturday with fully inverted heat races. (Would it make some sense to take points from all 3 nights to determine who gets in the mainevent Saturday, points from Thurs, Fri, qual on Sat, and the heat races? I wonder if some drivers might attempt to sand bag on Saturday during qualifying to get a better starting position in the heat races to make sure they are in the main, you know racers, they will exploit whatever opportunities their are. Can't blame them). . Anyway, it will be a crap-shoot on Saturday to get into the main and the heats will probably be better than those on Thursday and Friday if that is possible. Oh I almost forgot, the B main (s) should be a barnburner too! What a great night of racing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No matter what the fans WILL WIN WITH THIS NEW FORMAT. Thanks to PAS

Now I am just as excited about the Oval Nationals as I am about the Trophy Cup.

Saturday format was slightly tweeked a few weeks back to try to avoid sand bagging. Top four qualifiers in each heat will be inverted in the first two rows. Meaning, if you sand bag, you are probably starting no better than the third row.

Good tweak Scott- The field might not be as large as in the past (yet), but the quality is there in spades, and we the fans should see a better show with the format change on Saturday plus the legends of Ascot on Friday. Any word on the format for LOA?

LOAMR will have five cars in four, four lap races. Points will be paid in each race and drivers will roatate starting positions (one over) each race. Driver with the most points wins. If there is a tie for first after the fourth race, we will have a one off sudden death runoff between the tied cars.

Doubt we will see many Arizona drivers. Promoter at the new track near Phoenix has scheduled a race the same night as the Oval Nationals final and there are not many 410s left in Arizona.

Hi Scott, Bob Whitaker here. Am I not thinking this thing out correctly, or....if there are 5 cars in 4 races, somebody doesn't get their shot at starting on the pole. (Guy who starts the first race on the outside front row will never get to the pole, and the guy who starts the first race on the pole, never has to start in the third row.) Why not add one more race so everyone starts in all 5 positions?

They don't run 410's at the new track, but this group will be running one this weekend at the hall of fame race, and there could be others. Some of these guy's have came over for a regulat Saturday night show, so I'm sure some will come over for the Ovals as well.

Yes, Kenny, not a 410 race, but on the same night. Would not cost the Ovals many cars as I mentioned there not a lot of 410s left in Arizona. Gonna' cost each track some fans, though. Of the guys you mentioned, only one entered so far is RJ. He was the only one I really expected.

I did some research and I found out S Cali was almost as safe as the places I go fishing at in Mexico, so I ventured over to Cali twice this year.Open-mouthed smiley emoticon
