5/25/07...The O'Reilly Midwest All Star Series debuted with nineteen of the top 410 winged warriors in attendance at Auto Tire and Parts Race Park in Benton, MO. Friday night. A good crowd was treated to some outstanding racing prior the rain ocurring with only the feature left on the card.

Tim Montgomery (Webb 51) paced qualifying while heats were won by Jimmy Hurley, Joey Boyd and A.J. Bruns. Joey Montgomery topped the Dash, followed by Tim Montgomery, Ryan Buntin, Tommy Worley, Jr., Jason Keith and Corey Bruns.

Following the Dash, the rain forced postponment of the first ever MASS feature. That race will be made up when the series returns to Benton on June 22nd, resulting in double features on that night, in conjunction with a complete program of Midwest All Star Series racing.

The next scheduled race for the O'Reilly Midwest All Star Series is set for Saturday, June 9th, at Spoon River Speedway near Canton, IL.

I wasnt too impressed with the racing.....the track was horrible after qualifying. I pretty much payed $15 to watch the Farmington regulars. Now, dont get me wrong, Im a Tim Montgomery fan and like watching the races at Farmington, but its just sad that a SERIES can ONLY get regulars from a competing track. You can say all you want but 410 sprint car racing is in deep trouble. I seen where they had 25 360's over at Malden(which is about 45 minutes from Benton) for the USCS race. And plus the gas prices now, who can afford to travel far for a race. The best part of the races last night was the Modifieds, the sportsman class, and the incident at the end of the night when the twp push trucks hit pretty hard because of the slick, rainy surface!!

I was a little disappointed with the field that showed up but there's a lot of factors that played into that. The track was a little slick but it would have been nice if it didn't rain that second time. This was my first race at Benton since the All-Star show that Paul May won there in 2003 so it was good to see some sprinters racing there again. Had a beer or two with Ill. hoser Loud Pedal and friend of his in the parking lot during all the door banger action sorry I missed out on the push trucks running into each other.Smile

I thought the racing was pretty good, would've have been pretty interesting to see after the first little rain.

As far as I'm concerned the track did a good job and hope they keep up the good work. It's going to be a growing process to ever get it back to the success it had in the early 90s.

Don't know what Dirtracefan 21 expected about the cars being there, but that was pretty much who I expected to be there. At this point there are very few 410's south of Farmington area and maybe if the track keeps going they will add some regulars.

Anytime Joey, Timmy and Tommy show up I'm pretty happy, especially since I don't see them race much.

Jeff

From your prior post

"Over thirty of the finest 410 winged sprint car drivers in the Midwest will vie for the first feature win in series history, led by local favorites Tim and Joey Montgomery, Jerrod Hull and Tommy Worley, along with Illinois standout Jim Moughan, Jr., Mississippi hotshoes Jan and Dale Howard, Tennessee teenage standout Derek Hagar and many others who will lead the rejuvenation of top shelf sprint car racing in the area."

Doesn't say "expected to compete" but "WILL vie for".

19 cars showed up out of "over 30"????????

This shouldn't surprise anyone, this is the way the leader of the AllStars does business. He "mentions" a few drivers names from the area and then "mentions" there will be 30 cars there. Rejuvanation???? He can't rejuvenate the AllStars, they have done nothing but decline since he bought them. This GUY is part of whats wrong with sprint car racing today. If this series makes it, which I doubt, it will be up to the Farmington regs. to make it go. Farmington has a solid Saturday nite show every week, thats something for the drivers to think about. The owner of MASS wasn't even there for the first event, this should tell you something. Stay in Ohio with your 6 or 7 AllStars and leave IL & Mo alone.

Metalman? Dirtracefan21?

You are what's wrong with sprintcar racing today.

  1. I was at Benton and I didn't see a bad car in the pits. Those racers are good people and they were racing for $2000.00 to win and don't deserve to have you turds badmouth them for racing.
  2. Metalman? I don't know what your problem is, but the All Stars don't need rejuventation, they are doing fine. According to the drivers I speak with when I go to Eldora, This GUY has doubled the points fund to the largest cash point fund (other than outlaws) for the past 5 years and helps many teams keep racing. So if you have a personal problem with the All Stars talk to them directly and don't act like a sissy badmouthing them, hiding behind a computer, wearing a dirty bathrobe and eating twinkies.
  3. Final point Metalman, the area needs more racing not less so keep negative crap to yourself.
  4. Thank you.

The "30" number was based on teams who SAID they were planning on coming. Not the All Star's fault they decided not to show.

Mr. Webb was in Ohio with that OTHER series he owns racing at Attica. He can't be in two places at the same time, right?

As for the rest of your garbage post - please refer to Mr. Rath's comments above. He pretty much summed it up.

Mr. Webb, please keep up the good work, but also please don't badmouth the fans that keep you going.  It takes about a 2 second program to figure out who Mr. Rath is.  The Midwest All Stars are trying to bring 410 racing back to areas that are dying.  It will take time to get it going.  I would've liked to see more in IN because that's where I live, but first you have to walk before you run.  Swamp, I truly enjoy your posts, but you are extremely hypocritical when it comes to others with the "badmouthing".  You have no problem badmouthing others but don't like anything negative about the All Stars.  If you want examples, simply go to SCF.

If a paying fan is whats wrong with sprint racing today then you are out to lunch. I was not criticizing any car in the pits, I enjoy watching them all run. The AllStars are down to what 40 or so races per year? Thats really alive and thriving! Mr. Rath my final point is this, fans or drivers should be aware of the tactics used to fill the stands or get them to come race. I cansee the guys that showed up Fri. nite being led to a dry hole to drink. BTW The "MAN" should've been there for opening nitethe other series is doing just fine, right?

  1. I paid as well and I enjoyed myself up till it rained.
  2. Your negativity and drama is the problem not the ticket buying public.
  3. "Down to 40 races?" I have heard repeatedly the goal is 50 dates for the $50,000.00 which, again, has been paid since Webb bought the series. 40 dates for $50,000.00 is an even better deal.
  4. Who advertises the race? Could it be the track? What was the dry hole? who I expected to be there was there.
  5. I saw two officials and Gary Montgomery there, what didn't get done in your mind?
  6. You need a hobby other than chatroom troublemaker.
  7. Thank you

The race should have been run,Benton drug the show out,the dash did not mean a thing, but with 400 fans in the stands, guess someone had to buy the beer.I also saw the tech guys let some wings slide through that was not right with the rule books, and have not seen a make-up date yet,at least in print.

I simply respond to negativity when I know the FACTS are much different. My posts on SCF? Give me a break. That board is nothing but trouble makers and jokers. I just dish it out the way they all do. I'm pretty sure the majority of them see the humor or irony in my posts over there. Being a fan I have a great deal of respect for the drivers in ANY series...and being involved with the All Stars obviously slants my opinions because being involved with TRYING to improve the series day in and day out I tend to get a little touchy when people are cutting down what we've been trying to build up.

If you negative posters think its so easy, I need some help - so Please volunteer and I'll show you just how "easy" it is. When you stand up and offer to HELP instead of trying to take apart what good things we've been trying to accompish, then maybe I will listen to your opinion about how "bad" things are. Seems to me the All Stars are doing just fine from what I have seen so far this year.

(This was directed at the negative posters in general...didn't mean to quote Sprinty11 - it was not aimed directly at him/her)

Duane,

I wasn't up to speed on all of what brought this on until I got your message, but I just want to say that I know you are not "metalman" - who is somewhere down in the MO area and I know you are not Sprinty11 based on the many prior posts from Sprinty...and I know you have always come right out and said if you had a problem with something using your own name. Not sure where the confusion started today...but it was just that - confusion.

Tiffany was at Benton and I believe she will run the MASS schedule. I think they decided it was better for them being much less travel to race in their back yard and get some more experience. I hope to see Tiffany come and run some other All Star shows this season.
