FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Silver Dollar Speedway

Time to open it Up at Pacific Cup

by Troy Hennig

CHICO, CA - JUNE 28, 2011...Since the inaugural event of the Wednesday night showing of the Civil War Pacific Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway, the race has been limited to
the top 32 in points. A few years ago we
added the Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprints Shootout Series. Even the wingless cars had been limited to a
certain amount of point eligible drivers.
Unfortunately, last year's event was ready to race when a random weather system moved over the speedway and canceled the nights racing action.

Over the past few years there had been discussion about opening up the race to allow more competitors and a better show for the fans.
That change is taking place this year.
It was announced today that the Pacific Cup and Wingless Shootout race will be open to any driver who has competed in a 360 or wingless sprint car at Silver Dollar Speedway or ran in a Civil War race or Wingless Shootout event. This opens up the race to many more competitors who in years past would not be eligible to race.

"I think it's a good move by the speedway," said former Pacific Cup champion Andy Forsberg. "We have to change things up
every once in a while to evolve with the times.
I think more cars and a chance to see some wild card drivers is a pretty cool thing for the fans." Sean Becker,
the 2009 winner said, "It will definitely add some excitement to the race. When I race I want to the beat the best. Maybe this will allow some drivers like Brad Sweet or Johnny Herrera to race with us on Wednesday."

The Civil War Pacific Cup and Joe Hunt Wingless Sprint Shootout Series event will take place September 7. Any driver who has competed in at least one Civil War event, 360 sprint car at Chico is eligible to compete. The same goes for the wingless spec sprint division. Any Joe Hunt point race or
Silver Dollar Speedway spec sprint race will allow a driver an entry into the Wednesday night race.

Any driver or teams with questions please call the office at 530-350-7275. You can follow us at sdspeedway on Twitter or
by searching Facebook Silver Dollar Speedway.

Sorry for the confusion. A driver needs to compete in one of these events in 2011.

Reading in another message board that this Civil War race is in fact by invitation only for the top 32 in Civil War points only, not open to all competitiors as stated above. This was confirmed when a fellow racer not in the top 32 called Handy Promotions and was informed that its for top 32 only.

I cant imagine SDS just came up with the ruling without talking to Handy....so is this something that Handy just decided to change?? Someone needs to confess that either SDS screwed up or Handy is just trying to make Dennis look bad. Either way it sucks as the rules seems to change depending on the day.

Rumors all over the place that the Gold Cup is now 10k to win both nights and not 50k on Saturday like it has been...YET NO ONE FROM SDS HAS COMMENTED ON IT???? Is Dennis ashamed that the cat is out of the bag and doesnt want to admit it? Or are these unfounded rumors?? If it is 10k to win it seems they are defrauding their customers that have paid for tickets!

Why would Handy tell Gage how to run his show at his track? This sounds like a Gage decision alone. I'm not sure what the drama is about though. Does it matter there may be more cars in the pits?

Floyd...maybe you are unfamiliar with how things work...Handy owns Civil War and Dennis is the SDS Promoter...Dennis cannot just change the format of how Civil War runs without authorization from Handy. Most drivers and fans want to see more than 32 cars but it seems like Handy does not feel its important to clarify the rule on THEIR website as nothing is posted as of today! Why not open it up to more cars and exciting race just like EVERY OTHER CIVIL WAR RACE! Why should a driver have to come on a message board to inform everyone that there is a change on the rules?????

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like we might have to wait for next year's Civil War Schedule to get our answer then? The fact is SDS runs 410's. If Dennis is doing this on his own, he may be looking at not having them next year is what I'm getting out of this? Such a tiptoe act these promoters have to play it seems.

Seems more like a bunch of political b.s. Handy sells the GSC series to Simpson, then won't have KWS shows at Placerville, which screws the fans at Placerville who want to see the new series and have always supported 410 races at the track. Gage takes over the promotion at Chico after Handy gave it up or didn't want to be part of it anymore and now you have the confusion over the CIvil War show during Gold Cup. If the promoters can't work together, all that will happen in the end is racing in Nor Cal will be worse off for both the fans and competitors. Political b.s. sucks!

On one side we have Gold Cup report the show is open to anyone...on the other side we have a driver report from Handy that it is open to only top 32. I cant believe no one from SDS or Handy has seen this thread and wont verify what are the FACTS????? Sullivan and Gold Cup read this board alot yet neither has posted.

The issue has been all year long with promoters from the tire debacle at pville to the points issues at chico which eliminated a modified driver (who was leading the points) from winning a championship because the schedule did not specify it was a points race for the modifieds...now the driver has stopped racing there...and they wonder why they only have 5 modifieds a week...or 10 sprint cars...or 10 wingless or 10 stock cars????

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.
