This Saturday night at Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, Louisiana will see one awesome Late Model race! Vivian is as close to Oklahoma that you can be and still be in Louisiana! It's about 45 minutes south of Texarkana or about an hour or so east-southeast of Paris, Texas.
Longtime SUPR Late Model Series writer Steve Molnar called the side-by-side battle that David Ashley and Kenny Merchant staged in last year's SUPR race at Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian a "Race for the Ages." Steve's seen a race or two, trust me. He's not easily impressed but if he called it that it must have been one whale of a race! While the battle for the lead went down to the final lap, the battle for third was even better as 13 different changes occurred for that position with 17th starting Robbie Starnes finally getting the spot.
Well if you missed that one, you get another chance as the SUPR Late Models make their second visit to Gene Boyter's northwest Louisiana 1/4 mile oval next Saturday night, May 19th. Should be a dandy!
I heard last week's Modified race at Ark-La-Tex had a great finish with the top six cars in a group and I heard they got 4 wide within two laps of the finish and that Tippy Bickham, Jr. got forced over the edge but ran the downslope side around to get 8th anyway.
Congrats Wes Armtrong of Marshall, Texas in the Armstrong Towing #5 TRE Chassis on the win!
Modifieds will be racing with the SUPR Late Models this weekend at Ark-La-Tex. I'm calling that "Race for the Ages II" since Steve Molnar called it a Race for the Ages last year. From what I heard, last week's 30-car Modified field had a "Race for the Ages" of their own! Here's the rundown from last week, 5-12:
1. Wes Armstrong. 2. Bryan Mewborn. 3. Jonathan Maxwell. 4. Jason Armstrong. 5. Cody McCoy. 6. BJ Robinson. 7. Lee Patton. 8. Tippy Bickham. 9. Gary Warlick. 10. David Winslett. 11. Kevin Farmer. 12. Doug Vick Jr. 13. Bobby Jordan. 14. Robert Miller. 15. Mike Washburn. 16. Bruce Williams. 17. Billy Robinson. 18. Kathy Warlick. 19. Dustin Hyde. 20. Randall Settle.
