Big J Report Presented by DeBerg Concrete

This baby is being typed up from the desk at work on this Memorial Day before the hangover kicks in. Its time to see how good the notes are on the 'ol BlackBerry.

33 410s (Thirty-three!) NOSA Show

Red Carpet (see what I did there?)
Shane Stewart in the house skipping the cherry picking in Kansas done by the other ASCS regulars, The Dud finally finds a map to come north, T-Mac in the Vermeer 55 with a 24 wing, A-Mac coming in hot on the open trailer, and the 23w of Scott Winters signs in front of half of the town of Butterfield that showed up. Throw in a dozen or so of the NOSA guys and you have a 33 car 410 show!

MIA
Gregg Bakker is gone after hurting a motor the night before in Huron.

VIP
DudeFan actually gets to see a race on the year by coming south (1 for 4 isn't bad on the year there bud), the old friend Lusker shows up as well with wife in hand, and Savage in the house and didn't bring the tractor this time. The Champ Mike Tyson along with DeBerg make the trip from the Lakes as well. Bosma24 can't drink two nights in a row and was a no-show on a holiday night!

Heat Races
Took notes from them but there were four heat races (four!) and with a mostly single-file race track with a huge cushion its not worth putting them in. A constant sprinkle/mist welcomed the loyal crowd throughout thanks to DudeFan bringing the rain cloud whenever he shows up for a race.

No time trials on the night due to such a huge field and the threat of rain brought passing points through a draw in the heats. Lineups were posted for a good half hour before the "Home of the Professionals" realized they didn't put the 23w in any of the heats.

B Feature:
Winters wound up on the pole due to horrible math on the part of the speedway, and walked away with the 12 lapper that was filled with cautions, regardless of what the Huset's website says (it says Cody Hansen won it – not the case). The four that made the back of the A were: Winters, Jacob Ossenfoort, Jordan Graham, and the veteran Doug Martens.

A Feature – 25 laps.
T-Mac flipped the coin for a straight up invert or an invert of 8. And he threw tails to invert the 8 fastest guys from passing points.

Notes: Rosenboom stalled off the pit lane and didn't get started. They changed a mag in the pits and got his spot back after Ossenfoort spun out on the warm up lap. Rosenboom got his originally starting spot since he never started and the 99J stopped for them to fix it. Whatever, keep that in mind if it ever happens again.

Onto actual racing action, "Mr. Cool," McGillivray led lap one getting to his preferred position on the bottom, but that didn't last long as Stewart blew by him up top on lap two. Stewart put major distance on the rest of the field as eyes looked into the field as Dobmeier and Winters were flying to the front. A. McCarl moved up to third just as the red flag threw on lap seven for Ingle as he took a nasty tumble down the frontstretch. It took a few minutes, but Ingle got out and walked away.

The lap seven restart had Stewart pacing McGillivray, A. McCarl, T. McCarl, Forler, and a hard-charging Dobmeier. Stewart put major distance on everyone when the green came out as A-Mac battled with McGillivray for second. The young gun Forler and Dobmeier were fighting for fifth heavily when Winters spun out in turn one as he was coming to the front on lap 12. T-Mac had just gotten by his son for third but would be negated due to a lap not being completed. Graham went up in smoke just after the caution flew as well.

This lap 12 restart saw Stewart ahead of Chucky, A-Mac, T-Mac, Forler and Dobmeier. T-Mac wasted no time and moved up into second within a lap past his son and Mr. Cool. Austin followed dad into third past Chucky with Dobmeier doing the same a lap later to move into fourth. Another red flew for Glennon who flipped on the top of turn two with 11 laps to go. The top wing came off and Stewart nicked it trying to get to the bottom off the cushion but would be fine.

Restart with 11 to go had Stewart ahead of all-time feature winner T. McCarl, A. McCarl, McGillivray, Dobmeier and Forler. Stewart separated from the field again as he made an assault towards traffic. Dobmeier was on a mission to the front coming by everyone resulting in a questionable slidejob on T-Mac for second with five to go.

You thought Shane was fast? Holy (edited), Dobmeier was faster trying to erase a straightaway-plus lead while ramming the heavy, thick cushion. Dobs was faster than two weeks ago when he blew by Schatz, and still needed a yellow to have a chance at Stewart. The yellow would come as Stewart entered turn three for the checkers when McGillivray spun at the bottom of turn four. Dobmeier had erased the huge lead in traffic, but needed the yellow , or another lap, to have a shot for the win.

The green-white-checkered finish had Stewart give the "deuces" sign to Dobmeier in clean air as he continued his remarkable winning percentage at the track. This was his fourth career 410 win, second in a weekly show to match his two Gumout Series wins about a decade ago. The win paid $2,500 for the Bixby, Okla. native, who calls Pittsboro, Ind. home now. Dobmeier followed him to the checkers with T-Mac third, A-Mac an impressive fourth, followed by another young driver in Forler rounding out the top five.

Lap Leaders: McGillivray 1, Stewart 2-26

This 'N That

*Since we're not on the home computer and I don't have my flash drive, this format is gonna have to do.

*Here's to raising my next drink to Kevin Eckert getting his database back so yours truly can figure out Stewart's win percentage here. Off the top of my mind, there are only a few nights where I can think of him not winning in the last decade. He dominated the Gumout races back in the day in the Holbrook 8H. Those non-winning nights include a few years ago at the WoO show in the Roth 83 (after leading the first few laps), and a Cheater's Day waaay back in the day in the Chilcutt 4M (I think it was a runner-up finish in that).

*We'll give a thumbs up to the racetrack for moving along the show in the persistant mist/light sprinkle. No messing around throughout the night to get the program in much to the pleasure of everyone.

*But with that, there would have been a huge bitch-fit had the 410 show not been completed after interviewing the hobby stock winner. Interviews were then pushed to after the show being completed.

*To any of the fender fans saying that everyone would stay if a 410 feature was run earlier in the night – you're dead wrong. Was that 90% that left the stands or so? And half of them were on the midway drinking and/or in line for another beer. Great move by the track moving up the 410 show and not letting the b-mods rut up the track. Lets do this weekly!

*When not chatting with VIP members, Hot Rod is great entertainment in the pits. Opposite of that, Tassler is horrible to listen to.

*I am usually a prime believer in time trials setting up everything, but the drawing for heats really worked out, even on the heavy track. No wrecks in the heat and it led to some guys starting further back in the feature. But, gimme time trials every day of the week forward if its not raining!

*How about the Dud finding a road map after telling the track he was going to be here weekly to start the year! This isn't 360 racing up here where you can cherry pick your winnings! And get this – he didn't start on the front row for once either! At least he put the right graphics on the car after looking like crap to start the year in Volusia…

*WTF was up with having 10 cars in the second 410 heat race, and then having six start the next one (seven were scheduled to start it)?

*Big plus to the track for actually putting the push trucks onto the track for the first time in forever. It helped roll the cushion in a little bit, and it turned out to be a great piss/beer break.

*Gregg Bakker needs to be thanked for the magnificent job he's done all year. Three great tracks for racing, and the track was great in my mind considering the constant mist and the rain we had all week. And get this, he had the grader on the track immediately following the races. I thought I was at the Nationals when I seen that! The Dunkins at Knoxville could spend a few days at the Bakker/Lunstra School of Track Prep.

*Thanks to Big Game Treestands for putting up the huge 410 show at Jackson in a month. Should be a fun night over there, even if the racing surface is subpar like usual. Big purse, no Outlaws allowed, and who knows who will show – gotta love it.

*How about the teenagers tonight?! A-Mac was bad fast in his first visit this year. And Forler continues to impress the hell out of me in his three races here. I believe three top fives now in those races and I'm guessing second in points behind Dobmeier. Those kids were damn fast last night!

*212 was a good time pre-race and post-race as usual. Packed house again for the holiday. Thumbs down to the state of SD not allowing liquor sales all day on Memorial Day though.

*Cold-ass night in the stands with temperature around 60 and a stiff east breeze blowing into the stands. Gonna be a night-and-day difference if we race tonight with the forecast for mid 80s and a warm south breeze. Good night around friends that make the races even better!

Next quick report coming after tonight's show if we get it in!

A few comments:

Number of cars and threat of rain had nothing to do with not having time trials. This was a NOSA points race so all lineups were handled by the NOSA folks. NOSA does not time trial, they use a draw/passing points system. NOSA was in charge of 410 lineups all night.

B Feature results on the website has been corrected putting the #23W as the winner. Results for the site are copied from the track office via SpeedNet which still shows Hansen and Ranten as first and second.

I think you are being a little biased in saying 90% of the crowd left after the sprints...maybe 50% or so but not 90%. I'm sure the weather had nothing to do with that either.

Heat race lineups on the board had 9 cars in heat #1 and 8 cars in each of the other 3. The #3 of Donovan Peterson was supposed to be in Heat #1, but ran Heat #2. The #31 of Shane Roemeling was supposed to be in Heat #3, but also ran Heat #2.

I speak for myself, and three others with me, when I say thank you for running B Mods last and allowing us to get out of there. And if it were that way every week, we'd do the same.

Fine report once again, J, and so glad to see it's return as it gives me pleasure unattained in quite some time. Unfortunately, I will not be attending this evening. High winds and weather threatening leads me to a night at home with DirtVision. Hope you guys get the races in and look forward to reading an indepth report again tomorrow.

Get rid of those d*mn B-mods & the racing would go on a lot quicker. That's pretty much the reason why I stay home on Sunday's out @ Huset's.

I will neither confirm, nor deny the following allegations. No video means no evidence! Somebody please take some video of the DudeFan in a few weeks while I attend a bachelor's party. There could be a bounty on it if its very embarrassing...

Thanks for the kind words Savage. Good seeing everyone on Sunday night as well. Unfortunately I won't be able to join the cavalry to the south for the Knoxville shows due the previously mentioned bachelor party I need to attend. See everybody again on the 24th in Jackson!

Monday night was a cluster-youknowwhat. Starting 20 minutes late with severe weather coming to town after watering the crap out of the track. It was the right call to get everyone out ahead of the storm, along with the rigs. But something smells very fishy about how it transpired.
