Lake Ozark Speedway is contemplating cutting the sprint purse to $650 to win. It is currently $1200 to win with 16 or more or $1000 to win with <16.
This saturday, there were 27 sprints there for a regular saturday night show. They have been the highest car count class each of the two night thus far. The track is blaming low attendance and the high purse for the possible move.
The rest of the classes (4) have had less than 20 cars in each and in the case of some 45mph B-mod class they had 13. The track officials have stated the other class purses will be "AS IS."
The track promotion team just so happens to have a car in 3 of the support classes.
How about cutting the purse for the classes with less than 16 or so cars?.....

Sadly, that is the payout at XX Speedway and they still get cars. Sprint car racing isn't about making money it's about spending it I guess. As Steve Kinser once said "You wanna be a millionaire in sprint car racing? Start with 2 million."

If the same racers run a track for way less just down the road you can't blame the promotor on cutting. You must make the other track raise their purse or don't race there..

That's the way a lot of tracks operate up here, no premier classes that run for $1000 or more. Their top class is Modifieds that pay somewhere in the $700 range and the rest are a mix of B Mods, Hornets, and Pure Stocks that pay $75 or whatever they get and the trophy. Basically they're just hobby tracks with a couple of specials. There are only a few tracks that run big shows and the rest are local entertainment.
The UMSS 360's had a base purse around $700 their first year but always seemed to manage to bring it up to $1,000 via race sponsors. I haven't been following them so far this year, rain and circumstance, but I think they might have upped it by now. That's one way to get around $650 to win, find race sponsors willing to kick in a little. Tough times for tracks and their bottom line, have to be creative.

Kinser may have said it about "sprint car" racing, but the "make a fortune in racing" statement was made way before he started racing. It goes: How do you make a small fortune in racing? You start with a large fortune.
Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

There was a post on this website not to long ago about 410 shows at Wilmot Speedway in Wis. paying $1,000. to win. This is a formula that will drive out cars in a hurry, or at least it should. It seems to me that this is the goal anyway. Open wheel racing is hurting and there does not seem to be an easy fix. I wish that we could find the solution though. If I have to choose between Stock cars or the T.V., the T.V. wins every day.

I bet they averaged 2500 a night in previous years. Attendance was fine opening night. Saturday night was low due to it being a holliday weekend and the weather. They are getting plenty of cars they just need to race. 3 weekends in a row will kill anybody. I think they will see attendance increase as summer rolls along. They cannot send this type of message to the sprint car drivers though. They have been their biggest supporters so far...

The problem 360 sprints don't pay anything guess every one should run for trophies like go karts. Gulf South ASCS shows advertise 2000.00 to win , but the pay off is 2000.00 - 1000.00 - 700.00
600.00 8th on back pays 300.00 non qualifiers get 100.00. They normally have at least 2 National tour cars so in essence the locals who support the series are running for 700.00 to win. Look at the results from last week end. other region pay less than this . Sad situaton
