After listening to the Wing Nation Daryn Pittman interview it is obvious this racer
is a true outlaw. His team picks and chooses their races based on $$ and format.
URC, All Stars, WoO, PA region, it doesn't matter to them.
Sounds like they have a great plan in place. The WoO may pay more per show, but
the costs of travel alone takes a huge bite from the pie.

In this day and age and with the unreasonable fuel prices, financially it makes much more sense to have a homebase and run in and around that area. Good Car + Happy Pittman = Wins.

hodnett said his team made as much money running pa and the select shows as the 4th place outlaw team and spent way less than a touring team spends on expences and was in his own bed 90% of the time

What you quote Hodnett as saying makes more sense than the bottom tier teams of the WoO chasing from one side of the country to another. If you are loaded with a national sponsor/s that want coast to coast exposure and you are averaging 6th place or less with the WoO ..... go for it .... but if you just have a local type owner and sponsors ....what good does it do to have Walt Dyer Masonry, Joe Harz Furniture or Middleswarths (sp??) Potato Chips advertising from Iowa to California ......hell for that matter much west of the PA. line??
If the WoO brings in 6 to 8 quality cars to a track or a geographic area with a STRONG 410 tradition or weekly show ... that works for me ... the problem is the WoO needs double that to be viable at many of the tracks they run (all the Canadian events, Florida, Mississippi and about any race west of the Missouri River until they hit the west coast.)
It's all about P&L and ROI and I don't blame any team/owner that can make a economic case for never venturing any further from 'home base' that is needed in order to keep themselves making a profit (or less of a loss.)

I must admit that is actually pretty good. Highly entertaining, but I can only give you 8 out of 10. To be complete, the post needed a random picture of, say, Jeff Shepard in Victory Lane with the Zemco car at Knoxville or that Rahmer and Dewease in the press room at Knoxville.photo that has been posted on here about a million times. LOL

Daryn Pittman, alone with a few other drivers are True Racers!! He is a put you nose to the grindstone-racer. The whole Heffner team should prove something to everyone "you don't need a big hauler, an air plane, and deep pockets to beat the best in sprint car racing" Everyone can buy the same equipment, it is what you do with that equipment is what makes the difference!!
Just My 2 Cents Worth!!

Behind every good man is a good girl. Great effort by the whole Pittman family as always.
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

What is it? Posse or Cherry Picker!! LOL
One way to look at it is they move to Pa because the driver believes he can be a True Posse driver!
Another way to look at it is the driver can move to Pa. Race on the unique track long enough to figure out it's quirks then take all their money!! The driver makes a good living cause there are a lot of races in the area and the locals convince themselves that he is True Posse. Win/Win situation.

Boss
If that is the case( that they will leave in 5 years) how do you explain the Allen's, Smith's, Siegel's....??? Point being, alot of drivers have relocated to Central Pa to race & have stayed!!!
Outlaw,Posse, Ohioess........

My guess is they probably left their home towns as young racers, Met local women, established familys & roots and ended up making it their home. Just a guess.
Kind of like Kerry Madsen & Skip Jackson with Knoxville.

I never quite understand the whole the argument/excuse on here that just because the top Outlaw drivers have only raced at the Grove 37 times before or 64 times before, they are still totally baffled and confused. Seems like IMO the best drivers in the world should be able to show up at a place one time and have a pretty good handle on any track.

Maybe it's like a pro golfer complaining that the 'course is unfair.'
If everyone is playing the same course .... how is it unfair??
Every dirt track has it little nuances and oddities ....sure the local guys have a small advantage in that area ........ but the WoO teams have a huge advantage in technology (along with some of the best and the brightest in crew chiefs) and the mandated tire maker's input plus $$$$ to burn (run it on the edge of meltdown ALWAYS ...who cares ..we got 7 more under the cabinets in the trailer) over the locals. So everywhere else I can think of, the WoO drivers win most all of the time.
What ever the reason .... the local cars have the WoO 'number' at WG.... I am a Knoxville regular fan for going on 30 years and am no Posse member or even a wannabe.... but facts are facts ...no where else have they (WoO) gotten beaten regularly over the years like at WG ( also, not as often but still some of the other nearby tracks too.)

Fact : Daryn Pittman's win on Friday was his first 410 win of the season.
Maybe he can take over for Hodnett and be the new Outlaw killer.
