Former WA Sprintcar champion DAVID Priolo claimed the 25-lap Sprintcar Gold Cup in one of the most spectacular finishes ever seen in a speedway race.

He had the race in the bag as he cut a left rear tyre when leaving the final turn and crossed the finish line performing a serious of spins and banging the wall.

It was mirrored by Jamie Maiolo who was third at the time and also had a blew a tyre and limped over the line to be fourth behind brother Bradley and Ben Ellement.

An elated Priolo jumped out of the car, bowed to the crowd on the main straight and then sprinted across and also saluted the crowd on the back straight.

With part of his blown tyre around his neck on the podium Priolo said he would look at any way to get promotion for the Budgets Forklifts team.

"That is the most spectacular finish I think we have ever seen at the Motorplex," Priolo said.

"It's just great to be on the receiving end of some good luck.

"This Roush Yates Ford power is unbelievable, a huge thanks goes out to the Roush Yates guys."

Priolo tipped this would be the start of something big with the Ford powerplant, saying the next one that was being developed had 30 more horsepower than this one.

"I am really excited about the future that's for sure."

Bradley Maiolo said he enjoyed racing wheel to wheel with his big brother.

"It was good to have a good race with him," Bradley said.

"We are starting to get the handle on it and getting a car set-up that suits me."

Ellement was at a loss as to why others had tyre trouble.

"My tyres are pretty good, so I don't know what the other boys are doing."

The final race of the season was one of attrition.

Shaun Bradford went over at the start when Garry Miller got out of control in front of him.

Moments later David Hall went over big time at the other end of the venue.

Another scrappy start saw Trevor Reynolds and Luch Monte come together.

Callum Williamson, after putting in a sensational drive, forced a restart when he withdrew with a blown left rear tyre with 10 laps remaining.

Greg Hall event over on the back straight with eight laps to go after contact with Jason Kendrick who was disqualified for the move.

It was a black moment for the two-car Kendrick team as polesitter and leader at that stage Troy Little withdrew with engine problems.

Nathan Brady won the first race from Bradley Maiolo and Sheldon Brady.

"It's a great start to the end of the season…the track is good mate…the car is perfect."

Reynolds won the second heat from Farrell and Harvey.

"We are just not getting off the corner real good right now," Reynolds said.

"Tonight we just want to work on making the car better and learning to get it right each week."

The second heat was marred by a big crash when Mark Wells flipped when he ran out of room after Jason Kendrick spun trying to put a move on David Hall.

The third heat was declared when Ryan Farrell went over in turn three which went to David Hall from Sheldon Brady and Kendrick.

The final heat went to Reynolds from Ellement and Bradley Maiolo.

Qualifying: David Priolo 14.870, Callum Williamson 14.900, Troy Little 15.102, Mark Wells 15.146, Ben Ellement 15.300, Luch Monte 15.376, Jamie Maiolo 15.386, Lee Nash 15.450, Bradley Maiolo 15.457, Adyme Harvey 15.485, Garry Miller 15.502, Shaun Bradford 15.508, Ben Dickson 15.511, Ryan Farrell 15.516, Greg Hall 15.551, Troy Lawson 15.558, Robert Watson junior 15.622, Jason Kendrick 15.629, Sheldon Brady 15.806, Trevor Reynolds 15.919, Nathan Brady 15.935, David Hall 16.084.

Does everyone else in Australia run a Mopar or what? I see Jeff Swindell won with a Ford last night as well. Crazy just crazy.

Of course everybody else in Australia runs a Chevy. Same here in the states. Roush-Yates is practically giving away those expensive engines and there are few out there. That said, they ought to be competetive, they looked at the bowtie, then the Mopar, then decided what they needed to do to make a motor that was competitive. Hope Jeff Swindell wasn't running that 104+ motor. That was a dog.

Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

Sorry Madsen, but the only engine that has been given away was the raffle engine at the IMIS show last year. No, they aren't cheap but they are worth every penny. Ask anyone who builds engines for a living. Parts are expensive and the R&D is labor intensive. Its hard to justify giving away an engine, no matter the size of the shop that builds it.

Storm Motorsports in Australia is Roush Yates' vendor "Down Under". Those guys ave very knowledgable and have done a great job for us. Congrats guys!

Many thanks. Great stuff. It looks like they have superior track surface and power under the hood down under.

Jeremy,

A special thank you for pushing the over time hours to ensure STORM MOTOR SPORTS AUSTRALIA had the magic RY 410 Sprintcar Engine so that we could run in the last event for the season and what an awesome outcome, we will be pushing ahead to supply all in Australia with the new RY engines in the 360ci and the awesome 410ci classes, we are sure that Doug, Jeff and Bucky would be more than impressed with the initial outcome, what a win for the first run and at the best Speedway venue in the Land Down Under (Perth Motorplex) excellent track surface for the event and congratulation to Con Migro and the team at the track for an awesome surface and for such an important meeting for all.

Congratulations to David Priolo on an excellent win and to take out the Gold Cup at the first competitive outing for the Roush Yates 410 Sprintcar in Australia and at the Perth Motorplex is remarkable, the Team at Storm Motor Sports from Western Australia are very pleased and convey their appreciation to the entire Priolo family and Team for allowing Storm to install the RY 410 so late in the season and a special thank you to John Cooley of COOL CHASSIS Victoria for assisting Storm to get the Roush Yates 410 into the Priolo Sprintcar, if it was not for John heading over to WA the RY 410 would have been in the box and run next season, the COOL CHASSIS will now also be available from STORM in WA and we can assure all the FORD fans and spectators that our new Sprintcar team will be running both combinations next season at the Motorplex and beyond.
