Thanks for keeping an open mind on this topic. Oh yeah, you made a comment about a pair of Arizona promotors that really seem to know their business. Stating that is a good thing they haven't come to California. Maybe the reason they haven't come to California is that they don't want to tangle with you.

Thanks, but I doubt that is the case. lol

If Kevin and Benji were here, we would probably make a good team. They are great promoters and pretty damn smart. I have a good time when I go work with them in Tucson. Cant wait to see what they do with Canyon!

Your facts are probably all true, BUT Im guessing there is more to it, I find it VERY hard to believe that USAC is going to take a $6,000 hit for 8 races (not counting ovals) and not get it back, or make it up somewhere. That approaching $50,000 dollars... I have to think there is some "fine print" somewhere. As far as the National Poll goes, at least half of those guys run more NON sanctioned races then they do with USAC.

It seems like USAC is treating the CRA series as a "loss leader" right now, primarily because they know if they don't give it all the support it needs, there's a good chance that they lose the market to the ASCS. From a business standpoint, it looks like they are willing to absorb some losses now in order to ensure that they maintain their dominant position within the Southern California market. The hope would be that when the economy improves and the racing market gets better, it turns into a strength and money maker again.

If the ASCS wasn't very obvious about their interest in California in general and Southern California specifically, I don't know that USAC would be acting the same way it is now. I don't think it's a coincidence that the ASCS scheduled shows at Perris last year and has a "Southern California" region that actually doesn't run in Southern California right now.

I guess it's like a manufacturer giving one of its main distributors in a key market credit or discounts to help it through a rough patch. You don't want it to go out of business and completely lose those sales for years to come, and you don't want a competitor to swoop in because they are willing to give them a sweetheart deal at the right time, either.

We can argue about whether or not this is the right approach for USAC/Perris/the sport in general, but it seems pretty obvious to me that this is what is happening.

(Note: the new winged 410 series in California has come out and said that they are going to operate at a loss for the first few seasons while they get established and - hopefully - the economy recovers, so this isn't a localized situation.)

CRA A-Main Purse is $12,475.

Official fees aprox $1250.

5x$100 for non transfers is $500

Without any other added costs (and there are a few more) That is $14,225.

Perris Auto Speedway pays USAC $8500 per race.

I come up with $5,775 per race that USAC pays to make sure that CRA stays at their home track for no other reason than this is where the racers say they want to be. I dont know another sanctioning body out there that would do what USAC is doing for the racers and track.

I havent even factored in the Bad a** Billet Aluminum trophies that USAC is going to supply to each track, so that the racers really have something to be proud of. ( I havent actually broke this news to USAC yet, that I have spent more of there money. lol)

I am sure some of you will have some responses about sponsorship and everything else. Those are just the cold hard numbers.

Telling it like it is, has earned me respect amongst the Late Model clan, I hope it does the same here. Not sure Kevin Miller really wants me to be this honest with all of you. But you guys need to know how much USAC does for Sprint Cars out here!!!

No wonder Donnie K stays with USAC.....he "buys" a $14,000 race for $8500 bucks, that's a damn good deal for him. He only has to sell 425 seats and he has paid for the cost of the show. The back gate and his cut of the beer should keep fuel in the grader

I think you have it pretty much hit the nail on the head. I've been teasing Kevin for years now about how it's all about expansion for the "corperation" and there is no doubt that USAC hears them knocking at the door. After all, they breached the walls of Perris last year with their 360 non wing shows.

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

The lighting, the sound system, the facilities, the type of racing, the food , the anouncer, the track prep, everything about this track is first class and its why I say thank you to all that put it on.

As many of you may have received, I got an email this morning from USAC talking about a REDUCED payout for CRA races at Perris. See below if you are unaware of this.

1st - $2,000; 2nd - $1,000; 3rd - $750; 4th - $650; 5th - $500; 6th - $475; 7th - $450; 8th - $425; 9th - $400; 10th - $400; 11th - $375; 12th - $350; 13th - $325; 14th - $300; 15th - $275; 16th - $260; 17th - $250; 18th - $240; 19th - $230; 20th - $220; 21st - $210; 22nd - $200.

This doesn't look good! I have been kicking rocks around at the racetrack an overheard some people talking about purse size already. Some have stated they would race for anything less. Well now, less has come. This will effect the car count this weekend? I think so. Some guys rely on weekly winnings to make the next show.

Furthermore - Three days before the race! Three days before the Season Opener! Really? With the elaborate staff at USAC headquarters (IE web site staff that takes about a week to post results) they were able to hash this out THREE days before the season. Heck, I thought the Federal Government was having a tough time negotiating the budget.

Share your thoughts! Tell the powers above what you think. Please don't hold back. People need to know.

Usac: Did any of the drivers / teams know about this before today, or are they being blindsided by this news today also?

Sadly Disgusted Jim.

what a meandering post....the purse is reduced...Perris is subsidised and paying only $8500..pit passes still the same..racers cost still the same..so as per cshuman..If only the owners and drivers had someone to represent, and stand up for what they feel. wink
