What is their format for setting up the dash?

The dash is for All-Star points to the guys who time in the best that run for points. It's just a waste of time and really means nothing.

The All-Stars have changed their dash format for 2011. The 6 fastest qualifiers that transfer from their heats draw for the 6 starting positions in the dash. The dash finish determines the top 6 starting spots of the A.

to my knowledge, they didn't change the format to handing out the biggest check of the night to the winner of the dash. actually, i think last night the winner came from ninth and wasn't in the dash. i'd say that the main event was won last night in the main event.
