ASCS Now in California with Southern Cal Region! by Lonnie Wheatley
TULSA, Okla. (December 15, 2010) – The 20th season of American Sprint Car Series competition is just around the corner and the Tulsa-based Sprint Car sanctioning body continues to expand with the addition of the ASCS Southern California Region in 2011.
The ASCS Southern California Region will be one of at least two new ASCS Regional tours for 2011 along with the Missouri-based ASCS Warrior Region, which was acquired from the Winged Outlaw Warriors upon the completion of the 2010 season.
The 2011 slate for the ASCS Southern California Region is currently set to consist of approximately a dozen events. A majority of the events will take place at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway and Hanford’s Kings Speedway, with Santa Maria Speedway and Bakersfield Speedway likely hosting an event or two apiece as well. A point fund of at least $5,000 will be in place.
“The time is right for this, actually this is something that probably should have been done 15 years ago,” Thunderbowl Raceway promoter Steve Faria commented. “It’s obvious that ASCS is the wave of the future, this will be the start of big things in California.”
Gaskets and restrictors will be permitted for two years as the ASCS head rules are phased in, with only the Brodix series head permitted after the two-year phase-in period.
California race fans will get an early glance at ASCS action in February, as the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by K&N Filters National series slings the California clay for the first time with events at Thunderbowl Raceway on Wednesday, February 9, and then Kings Speedway on Saturday night, February 12.
The 2011 schedule for the ASCS Southern California Region will be announce as soon as all dates are finalized.
Set for its 20th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing, the American Sprint Car Series brings the best of Sprint Car racing to approximately 100 different tracks throughout 30 states and Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of ten different Regions throughout the nation.
Additional information regarding the American Sprint Car Series is available at www.ascsracing.com.

The ASCS Website rules have specifications for a wing so unless otherwise noted, I'd say yes.

The Canyon Series in Arizona is non-wing. I am assuming the West Coast 360s will remain under the USAC banner and will be the central CA non-wing series. We certainly don't need another sanctioning body dividing the non-wing 360 car count.

Don't think for one minute that ASCA won't do it if they think they can push USAC, or anyone else out of their way.

"AWESOME"
Steve is correct, this should have been the norm for a long time now. Hopefully everyone will get on board with the ASCS rules so anyone can go anywhere and race without having to spend senseless money changing things out. Plus many teams will be able to run either the wing or non wing shows at a moments notice. This is good for anybody that runs a 360 program.

In looking for the nightly pay schedule, the only thing I could find was at ascsnorthwest.com. $300.00/start and 2k/win. Does anybody if that will be the same in the Socal region?
Geez, I had fun.

Whoops, I guess Arizona's original 360 group (ASCA) was on my mind as well as the ASCS. Gee, I'll bet you can't guess why.

Let's see now. The "S" and the "A" are next to each other on the keyboard.
Yeah, I know I'm being an SA for responding.

Yes, the West Coast 360 Sprint Cars will continue to be a USAC series.
The ASCS series is Wing.

We are finalizing our payouts. But we are excited about starting this series. ASCS is a great organization and I look forward to watching this grow!
Like Chris stated, we are happy with the West Coast 360's and they will remain USAC and we all feel this is best for this group and keeping them all together.
2011 is right around the corner....Cr_p! Feb 12th is almost here already!!!

Or, you can get one of those "obsolete" 410's for half the money of a new ASCS engine and go run the new KWS series with the likes of Bud, Jonathon, BK, Larson and Tim and receive tow money, $500 to start, $3K to win, $100K point fund and $75K in contingencies. Just a thought.
