Nothing is going right at the moment here. I'll have to post these before the weekend is over.
Anybody got any pics they wish to share?

The uploads are taking a very long time these days. It's been suggested that I need extra memory , to speed the uploads.
In the meantime-until tomorrow, the A feature is going to STILL be uploading. Almost like a rain delay, but bear with me.

Well, John Stewart and David Smith gave me some KILLER footage that would have done the NCRA guys justice. Tony Armstrong was going to give me some pics--
But the spell bit me and I had to go with what I had at the moment. Still, on the shelf coming to you'se guys and gals is STILL SOME FREAKIN' KILLER FOOTAGE OF SOME OF SWEETEST LOOKING OPEN WHEELERS EVER!
Thazz uh fact Jack!
For now whilst we all have to wait around the slow uploads, I will now place the intro for the final A Main. Could've been better................

A few other things I'd like to say before I move on to the next project-
Monday July 21, 1986-
I'm just an unemployed goober running around Ardmore waiting to go to college, when I spy Bob Ewell at the usual car wash he stops at when he comes through going back to Forney, Texas. I at that time didn't even have a clue as to whom he was in regards to current NCRA standards, but I have and am still learning to this day ( I only got to go 1 time a year, to Lawton mostly).
Anyway I knew the UvN show had been run and asked for the rundown. I heard about Johnson, Vogler and the rest. Not a bad word about any NCRA competitor, or anybody else for that matter. But he did note many were upset over Vogler.
Well, now it's 2010, and like many of you, I finally got to see the show. worth the effort for sure.

More on Rich Vogler-
1. The health nut factor-
Vogler not only worked out religiously, he also ate as if his body was a machine. He ate to think better calling "brain food", as well as for his eyes etc.
2. His shadow-
His father and hero was Don Vogler. Don died during warmups at the Indianapolis Speedrome in 1981. Rich was 31 at the time, and from there determined to win the Indy 500 and establish the Vogler name on the Borg-Warner trophy once and for all.

3. The sponsor-
Coors Light at the time was not afraid to sponsor a top-ten ride at Indy, if it was a sure shot (compared to most).
Rich knew this too, and his truest competitors were Father Time, and Lady Luck. Everything leading up to the 500 was an audition, and he loved to audition on dirt and pavement in just about anything he could get his hands on , that wouldn't make his skills look bad.
4. The legacy
Among other things- he schooled Jeff Gordon on winning against real race car drivers in real race cars, and then opened another door to Indy through NASCAR (Brickyard 400). Tony Stewart and the rest followed continously proving that winners come from all economic walks of life and the fans wish to see the real racers, with the kind of desire/luck you cannot buy.

Last but not least- he never even worried about Shane from Oklahoma. Which brings me to the last interesting note I just HAVE to throw in--
Ricky Hood had dominated this show for two years, and had won the preliminary nights a main you can see above here (saturdays a main).
Anyways, Rick has just won , and they need an interviewer for the winner. Shane Carson was available, so he was volunteered to interview Hood while they present the trophy.
Ricky just smiled at Shane with a mean gleam in his eyes, and kept looking at him as a competitor would.
I think the last video on this page is able to tell what Shanes response was about the whole weekend in his humble little town of Oklahoma City.
This overall chemistry inspired the next event of this kind for Oklahoma-
the 1987 Chili Bowl.

At the time, me and my traveling friend - OKC fire fighter Ron Ruyle - caught wind that Johnson was going to seek out and payback Vogler at the next scheduled USAC silver crown event in Duqoin, Illinois over Labor Day weekend. So we loaded up and made the trip from OKC and got there for a bit of a rain delay.
Sure enough, Johnson was in the pits to compete but, as good as Johnson was, his equipment was no match for Vogler as he could never get close enough for a potential payback - if those rumors were true.
But the trip was worth while as Jack Hewitt had to start either last or near last and worked his way through the field in what he then called the biggest victory he ever had.
Long-time friend and current USAC/IRL announcer Dr. Pat Sullivan called then 1986 USAC/NCRA race the most controversial event in USAC history.

I was wrong about the 1985 wheel issue on Shanes car, it was the Right rear, not the left rear.
