I know next to nothing about the IRA. The only name I am familiar with is MOCK.

I noticed two of them at the Nationals.

I just wanted to say I appreciate the Mock's, as well as others, who took their cars and raced.

If I ever get to Cheese-land I'll have to take in one of their races.

Now PLEASE...don't turn this into a Posse thread.

If anyone knows the Mock family just tell them a very old, bald and ugly guy in California appreciates their efforts.

P.S. I think his first name is "chuck!"

ha ha,

leon

The 2 Mock's that were at the Nationals were Kim and Phillip. It is a father and son team with Kim being the elder statesman and Phillip, last years Rookie of the Year with the IRA, the son. Kim has put his son in his car but has been able to run a second car on a number of occasions. Kim's daughter was the Nationals Queen a number of years back. That was the same year Kim took a very nasty tumble down the front stretch.

Kim and Phillip had a good race for the final transfer spot in the E on Saturday Night of the Nationals. Phillip ended up with the transfer when Kim "jumped the cushion" in 4 of the final lap. I thought that was pretty cool.

I remember well when Kim Mock won a show at Farmington,MO. It was one night I happened to be taping back in the 90's and he went into the stands to shake everyones hands. You can hear the announcer say we need to move his car because there's another class coming out to race. He was a very HAPPY WINNER that night!

Leon, I know there were several drivers from the IRA running at the nationals as well as other uppe rmidwest drivers who are not Knoxville regulars. I don't know the IRA drivers well as I have only been to three of their races this year and only two or three last year. The only other driver that immediately comes to mind is Scott Winters out of Butterfield, MN. I don't think he runs the entire IRA schedule as many of their races are in eastern WI, but he does run any MN shows and any WOO shows in the region as well as (I think) a regular schedule at Husets. I haven't got a chance to meet him yet, appears to be a very nice young man (has a very nice sister who I have had a chance to talk to a little). I should get two or three more chances to see him run this year.

But you're right, all of those drivers/teams deserve out thanks for being there.

We often (including me) forget if it were NOT for guys like this there would not be a NATIONALS.

I think we overlook the cost factor for many of these teams....sleeping in tents, camping out, etc.

I'll never win the Power Ball (because I don't play it) but if I suddenly discovered a rich old relative about the kick the bucket we would, over-night, become the "bestest" of friends. I would like to use it to "beef up" those E, D and C fields! Smile

Does the Mock family have a site where you can order shirts?

thanx,

leon

I believe there was a stretch in there of about 3 out of 4 years that Kim took some nasty rides at the Nationals, the one that sticks out in my mind was the very scary backstretch incident involving Curtis Bowyer. As far as I know Curtis made a full recovery after one of the worst crashes I've ever witnessed.

I too will give a shout out to the "Kim Mock's" of the nationals. Kim is truely happy just to be racing and makes that well known in every interview that he gives.

Weather he jumped the cushion or gave up the position is debatable. Either way it was fun to see the two of them racing together. I don't know them other than by name and seeing them race at the nationals, but I saw respect for each other.

Maybe Kim can give Sammy some lessons on how to congratuate his son after winning a big race.

I used to see Kim and his family at Wilmot in the 90's. He and his family are people the sport can be proud of. I don't think I've ever met a nicer bunch than the Mock Family.
