2nd Annual Cowtown Mid-Summer Midget Madness – August 21st

Kennedale TX (8/16/10) by
DarinShort.com. The high powered, full-sized midgets of the SMRS/USAC will converge upon Cowtown Speedway for a 2010 encore performance at the Cowtown Mid-Summer Midget Madness, this Saturday, August 21st.

For the fourth time in two years, the midgets return to Cowtown Speedway. This past February at the Cowtown Midget Championships, a great crowd witnessed a strong field of midgets compete. The result was wild wheel-banging, side-by-side racing and excitement.

Similar action can be expected in this event for the raucous Midgets, when they roll into Cowtown Speedway and take on the wide, fast, ¼ mile high-banks. Heat races will precede the 30-lap finale.

Open-wheel local favorites Kevin Ramey and Justin Melton; plus Matt Johnson, Chet Gerke, Eric Sandage, Ryan Cole, Ronny Burke Jr., Andrew Felker, Don Droud Jr. and several more are expected to compete, as indicated by Series director John Stewart.

Joining the Midgets will be the high powered Cowtown Modifieds, the lightning fast Winged 600’s, Performance Transmission’s raceTX.com Limited Modifieds and Bombers.

The pits and grandstands will open at 5:30pm, with hot laps at 7 and races at 7:30.

By clicking
www.CowtownSpeedway.com you will find links to advance online ticket sales, directions and much more. There is no additional charge to purchase tickets online.

Adult tickets at the gate are just $15, with youth tickets $5 and kids $2. All pit passes are $30 with additional purse money being paid to all Cowtown point’s divisions. Small coolers (the size of a 6-pack) are allowed in the stands, but no glass containers are allowed.

Don’t miss this night of high-powered, rough and tumble action as the SMRS/USAC midgets make their 2010 encore performance at the Cowtown Mid-Summer Midget Madness, this Saturday, August 21st at the Fastest Lil’ Dirt Track in Texas – Cowtown Speedway.

In addition, the Vintage Texas Open Wheel club will be displaying approximately 20 vintage race cars behind the grandstand. For a preview of some of the cars that will be displayed, please click: www.networxetc.net/cowtownBB/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10992

if you think you may have 20 midgets I'll drive 3 hours to see it.

156-

Thanks for your message.

The Series director says he's got them coming, in the three previous Midget races I've done a pre-registration so you, the fan, would be 100% guaranteed the car count in advance (just like the sprint race 2 weeks ago, we advertised 23 sprints on race day and 25 started the feature).

This race we didn't do a preregistration, as there were just too many events stacked up in a row. I can tell you that there was a midget race scheduled in the Houston area, but it was cancelled to allow some of those teams that wanted to come up the opportunity to do so.

I haven't heard if George White will have his midget ready for this show yet. I'll post any news on this forum and the Cowtown forum as it becomes available.

Also note that the midgets race the night before at RPM, so we'll have a heads up on car count at that point. I would guess (based on last year) that we'll have probably 3-6 more than what they get. So by Saturday morning, the results of that race will be posted (check www.ElbowsUp.com ) and then we'll both have a more firm car count number. The smallest midget car count we've had so far is 21 or 22; so I would think we'll be close to that.

But we've got the Cowtown Sprint Nationals up and running, with the Topless 100 and November Sprint Shootout in tow, which take a lot of time to get off the ground.

Hope this helps answer your question and you can zip down for a night of racing and memorabilia with the big field of Vintage open wheel cars that will be on hand as well.

As of Thursday afternoon, 'average' and dry summer weather conditions are expected for this Saturday. Here's the latest from NOAA:

Saturday: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 100. South wind between 5 and 10 mph. (TO YOUR BACK in the STANDS, this means by race time temps will be in the mid to upper 90's)

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 79. South wind between 5 and 10 mph.

And a reminder that we have our 'Hot Summer Nights' hours in effect, with gates opening at 5:30pm, Hot laps at 7pm and racing at 7:30pm. (The sun now sets right at 8pm.)

Last year there were 17 midgets on Friday ( http://65.36.191.73/archive/index.php?t-76556.html ) and 22 on Saturday ( http://www.networxetc.net/cowtownBB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9353&sid=55d707bb95e90cc70e528cc1f75fd882 ); so if that trend continues, there were 16 last night, so you would think around 20 tonight can be expected.

There are some Houston area drivers that have indicated they are coming tonight, as their race at Alvin was cancelled to allow some of them to come up - plus some of them have Vintage Open Wheel cars that will be on display...over 20 are registered to be on display behind the grandstands.

With the southern breeze, the later starting times and the sun setting earlier; should make for a great night of racing, hope you can make it!

Online ticket sales available through 4pm, click www.CowtownSpeedway.com for more info.
