I heard & this could ALLLLLLL be a rumor, so take it for what it's worth, but I heard that last year Cappy didn't pay SPEED due to coverage issues (idk what) & so they won't be aired on SPEED again. I also HEARD that Goodyear bailed him out & that's why they are all running Goodyear tires this year and have to for the next three years and that's also why Goodyear is a main sponsor this year. I cannot confirm any of this, nor have I tried to because I always come to the nat'ls so don't watch it on tv.

After reading the article its not that far off. Its all about the money, I think someone needs to rethink this, because live tv broadcast reaches far more people than the track can even seat. If the sport of sprintcar racing is gonna grow tv exposer is a must. Does anyone think sponsors are going to want to throw money at sprint car racing if we cant give a live broadcast in return? Nascar would not have got to where it is today without help from tv exposer. Can you imagine a tape delay of the Daytona 500?

I heard & this could ALLLLLLL be a rumor, so take it for what it's worth, but I heard that dirt4life spends alot of time watching kiddie porn when he's not being a complete moron on racing message boards. I cannot confirm any of this, nor have I tried to.

I was just wondering this myself. I have been out of the loop on races lately....it is good to see things haven't changed.....a huge race that many would watch live.....(and for those not lucky enough to be there in person).....not being aired live. I am really suprised especially with the anniversary and all. I am glad the racing fans are considered in times like this....thanks guys. I guess I can watch AMA racing instead......sucks...(no offense AMA)...I just made sure I got home from vacation in time to see the show and now I will have to wait for a tape delay. Bummer. I guess I will have to dodge the NSSN for a while so I don't ruin the end. DRAG!

Its was in an article in the Des Moines register on Aug. 8. And is in the news section on the Knoxville website. Saved $100,000 from the price of a live broadcast, by have it taped delayed. Attendance has been slipping since the first live broadcast in 2002, and rumored money trouble from past few years and this year for sure. So make up your own mind.

Several people I know in Iowa who are race fans have opted (wrongly IMO but many have) to get season tickets at the Iowa Speedway. As a result of the expense of overpriced asphalt fun they have given up knoxville altogether. They still follow sprints on hoseheads a little but have chosen to spend their limited entertainment budgets elsewhere. Will they be attending the nats? No Would they have watched it on TV? Yes. Now they will probably watch 48 hours mystery tonight and eventually as life often does forget the sprints exist. It disappoints me that the Knoxville fairboard chooses the cheapskate path everytime it is available (see paying for the live TV coverage ). Screw the fans across the nation who can't make it to Knoxville say the fairboard. As long as those geezers get to sell their complimentary tickets every year all is well.
More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

maybe it is just me but two things don't make sense. turn2media said they couldn't show the sat nite video because speed had the rights. well it seems the track pays speed to air the broadcast. so i don't see where speed has paid for any rights. so if the track is paying the tv bill, they should have the rights. now i don't know if turn2media is affiliated with the track or paying a fee to the track to stream video, but my opinion would be that the track is controlling the video stream not being allowed more than speed is. especially if the track thinks that people will stay home and watch vs. coming to the track.
also the excuse for the drop in butts in the seats on the sat show is that people are staying home and watching. yet the story says there has been a drop in tv viewers.
nothing jives here.
also i have read else where speed tv has said they wanted to broadcast the sat show live, but the track didn't.
i don't blame the track for not wanting to pay for the live broadcast, but i don't see the lack of it raising attendance significantly. i would say any significant attendance raise this year could more accurately be attributed to the 50th running.

I agree jack, makes no sense that we can't even pay to watch live video if the track is paying speed to broadcast, guess they don't want my money. Only way to see the Nationals tonight is to be there.

Of course Speed locks down the exclusive rights for broadcast.
That article noted "The ratings footprint for Knoxville Nationals on Speed heaved to a high
of 299,000 households in 2006, but fell to 162,000 last year." I am surprised any major company would want to toss money at any program that draws that few live viewers.

speed must not have "exclusive rights for broadcast", because i am listening to the race right now!
i am not saying i know the answer. i am just saying that if the track pays for speed to air the race, how does that give speed the air rights? i don't know. also if the track is saying that live coverage is taking away fans in the stands, why are the tv numbers going down instead of up? also if the track won't let speed air the race live because they are afraid it will take away from their ticket sales, why would they want to have it stream on line. it seems to me the track is stopping all of it. speed won't show the race for two more weeks. long after most race fans will have known the outcome and have talked about the event. so just what are they trying to protect by not letting the tracks own media company, or company that is affiliated with the track for streaming purposes, stream the race live?
about your comment about why any major company would want to toss money at any program that draws that few live viewers. all i have to say is have you seen some of cnn's nightly cable viewers ratings lately? lol.
