Heat 3 was as shitty a start as any flagman could possibly allow...
Cheers!

No actually I believe he only has one eye.
Maybe he missed a start but I still think he's still the best flagman in the biz.

I didnt realize he actually might be blind in one eye I was just joking around but thanks for the info. The problem with allowing that crappy start is that this isnt weekly racing in bumfart nowhere this is night 1 of the 50th Knoxville Nationals and that start was terrible even the announcers thought a caution SHOULD have come out. Oh well those drivers are screwed now... nothing will be done about it.
As for Doug Clarks credentials, I agree he is in a class of his own as far as quality but he pecker stepped this deal.
Cheers!

The entire season has had less than mediocre flagging...if you watch the dvd's of weekly racing you will see first hand the horrible starts and poor decision making that has been made on that stand. For years I would have agreed with you that Doug was the best..but I do believe it is time for Knoxville to re-evaluate their flagmen. Doug may have a bad eye, what's the kids excuse? He without a doubt needs off that stand!

It's not Clark making the call on the start or restart. Why he has a headset, so Cappy can tell him to yellow it or let it go. A bad start is let go, don't blame Doug, I yelled at him for years, until I found out that Cappy makes the call. Yell at Cappy, but it won't do you any good. Talking from experience.

lol... That's why you always hear ppl say that, "hes blind in one eye & can't see outta the other"
on a serious note, does anyone know what happened to him tho? Like has he always had vision problems or was it caused by an accident?

I've always wondered this: Is Doug Clark that famous of a flagman because he flags @ Knoxville, has one eye, or the fact that he's black? Not being racist, just a legitimate question I've always pondered.
do it in the dirt

Can anyone name another nationally known short track flagman?
Anyone name another flagman that has put some of the big guns to the tail because they did not behave?

Doug lost his eye when he was a child. He was digging out a rose bush ( I think) when one of the tines on the pitchfork broke and hit him in the eye.

I think ya gotta give credit where credit is due & even though we may not all agree with his (or cappy's) calls, the man is outstanding @ his job!!! He is up there every night with the Iowa heat & humidity flagging his ass off. GREAT JOB Doug & thanks!!!! =)

Then why are you still going. I thought we had one of the best years ever.It does not sound like anything will make you happy. Sometimes it is a ball and sometimes it is a strike and sometimes it is close to both and you have to call them all.
We get to call them after the fact

The best part of being a track manager, flagman ,referee,or umpire has got to be...no matter what call you make..somebody will say it's wrong...best part of being a 'fan' is you have the god given right to critisize..no matter how little experience or knowledge you have...thats why they sell banades at the store -to cover all the cuts I get making misjudgements at work..wish I was perfect like you expect these guys to be..cut them some slack..thier trying thier best

Actually... no he's not. He's right on. Doug is a sitting duck out there. I remember a few years ago when they had a restart that allowed Steve Kinser to win or something like that, I can't remember exactly who the driver was, but anyways Doug left instantly after the races and people were swearing up a storm at him and it's not even his decision.

STUPID??? What's stupid about asking about a HORRIBLE start? He obviously didn't know he was blind in one eye, because he stated he was sorry. That still doe not answer the simple question of WHY they didn't throw out the yellow! I been going to Knoxville for along time and had no idea he was blind in one eye. It was never brought up in any discussion that i've had with people...talking about Doug Clark's inability to see out of one eye! Sounds like you probably know his waist size as well. Oh by the way this is not the "most astonishingly stupid post in at least a year" as stated by you. You obviously haven't been following the forums that much to see some of the crap that gets spewed on here on damn near a daily basis.
Now back to taking my drugs Just like every other American in this pill popping country!
Trophy Cup......Best race of the year hands down!

Well it might be news to you but the sprint car world doesnt in fact revolve around Knoxville as some like to believe. So you see it isnt strange that I wouldnt know he was in fact blind in one eye or what truck he drives or what his favorite ice cream is etc, etc.
Now back to the more important issue, Night 1, Heat 3: that start was total garbage and anyone who thinks thats good ol fashioned sprint car racing doesnt have a clue. 3 wide start?? Cars slowing because its obvious a restart was in order and they keep it green??
Here is what was written on knoxvilleraceways results page right below the Heat 3 results:
"It was a very rough looking start but it was let go and Kemenah has the lead."
Cheers!

Doug is always in the infield after the race and never leaves and if you want to talk to him he is never hard to find after the race. He will be by a black Chevy having a beer
get a radio and you can hear that you know nothing about what you are saying
