OCRS READY FOR LAWTON ACTION

by John Lemon

Tulsa, Oklahoma (August 8, 2010) – After a well deserved week off, the sprint car warriors of the Oil Capital Racing Series will return to Lawton Speedway this Saturday night for more action on the red clay oval. Last June, Whit Gastineau of Moore was just a few days removed from becoming a father and celebrated the birth of his daughter 'Racee' by topping a 33 car field to win the nights main event.

Since that first visit to Lawton, Jamie Passmore of Rose Oklahoma has been hard to stop winning three of the last five feature events. Gastineau was one of the other winners during Passmore's hot streak while Danny Smith took the other victory. In that race, Smith beat Passmore to the line by four feet. The points battle is a never ending exchange of positions. Going into this weeks Lawton race, Tulsa's Mike Goodman has closed to within five points of Stilwell's Rafe Essary for the second spot on the charts. Passmore leads Essary by a season high 190 markers. Travis 'Hollywood' Jenkins and Tim Kent are deadlocked for fourth at 834 points. Fred Mattox is only 26 points behind Kent and Jenkins with Smith a scant seven points behind Mattox. Terry Easum leads Brady Demeree 614-587 for the OCRS 2010 Brodix Cylinder Heads / Broken Arrow Lawn and Garden 'Rookie Of The Year' title.

The officials of the Oil Capital Racing Series have made some recent changes to the 2010 schedule. The event scheduled on October second at the famed 81 Speedway has been removed from the schedule. OCRS has added an October first date at the re-opened Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee. It will be the second stop at Thunderbird with the first stop coming on August 21st. After a very successful visit to West Siloam Speedway last month, officials of WSS and OCRS have agreed to run a second event at WSS on September 11th.

Lawton Speedway Info:

Directions: Take Interstate 44 to Lee Blvd. Go west on Lee to Sheridan Road. Turn south and go 1 1/2 mile.

From the south, exit Highway 36, take Faxon exit, go north on Sheridan Road approx 5 miles.

Gates will open at 6pm with racing action starting at 8:30pm. OCRS drivers meeting will be at 7:30pm and hot laps will commence right after the meeting.

Track number is: (580) 355-6417

Heard it's going to be a bit warm Sat. , so I am wearing my BIG Randle Racing Sandals and my SPEEDO while attending the festivities, I believe I'll choose the red one with the flourescent yellow racing stripes down the side of it, cause the red say's I'm fast and the flourescent yellow stripes are so no one runs over me after dark.

Also gonna bring a jug of Ice Tea to feast on while burning up in the SW Okla. sun, also feel with the possibilty of sweating will occur that it might be wise to stop at the Dollar General and pick me up a little of the Gold Bond Medicated Powder as it will eliminate chaffin that may occur and any of that not so fresh feelin that can often be experienced when 100 plus degrees are in the forecast.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, J.D. I just got a visual of that..WOW !!!! I think I'll stay in Edmond and swim at the pool party. I'll be looking at bikini girls there. That way the thought of you in a speedo will be erased from my mind forever. Have fun at the races.

BTW, are you gonna have a power plant for the end of this year?

Lanny is going to be very upset at you JD. Your going to scare all the people away from coming. I guess that is why they are doing the ten dollar car load thing again lol.

I think ALL of you should leave early but "Go North young man" and stop at Holley's bbq for lunch/dinner before you head down. Nothing like supporting a racing business, eating bbq and then head to the Lawton red-clay for some sprint car action.

Me? Don't know where I shall be as of yet but I am sure it will be out of state.

hh, Power Plant done end of last week and bolted her in this weekend and will be at Lawton Sat. night to watch Jr. put the Hog Wagon through it's paces and hope she passes the Jr. test with flying colors cause the last time Jr. stomped the loud pedal she went kaboom and up in smoke she went.

Great news JD. Good luck to you guys. I'd like to go but since I'm gonna be unemployed, starting friday evening, for the first time in 27 years I'm gonna opt to stay home and save some money.

Maybe you could borrow a thong and wear it over your shorts to keep things on the light side in the pits saturday.

Making the trip down and it may be my last race for the year due to work. I tell you that only to let you know that with me in attendance, the chances of rain skyrocket.

You just concentrate on making our SOONERS sound good so we won't end up like we did last year.

Head to Lawton, Kenny, but take a detour to Holley's bbq. Fill up before you leave ya know.

hh, Hate to hear that about the employment situation, Thanks for the encouragement and as for the Thong, I don't think so, Chaffin would start immediately.

OK, mjm about the T M I , would that be from the Big Randle Racing Sandals or the Speedo , must be specific, lol

If Mr. Mossman makes the road trip to Lawton , maybe he might come by and grace us with his prescence at the 71 Sprinter for a minute of his valuable time , then I could get a pic with him and the Sprinter and show all the folks I know somebody who is BIG time at the OU Athletic Dept.

David, Seems they are a bit testy on the Tulsa Board, not a lot of happy campers over there about the running/promotional efforts of the current promoter at Creek and how he is handling the Sprint Cars or for that just about any class.

I just wonder if most all of them will really not show up like they are typing they will not show. It sure is high drama.

If you want a pic with someone who is big time, I'll have to see if I can talk Coach Stoops into making the trip with me. I asked him about sprint car racing once, even mentioned Eldora since it's in his home state, and he looked at me like I was speaking Chinese. In any event, I'll swing by.

Holly's ain't exactly on the way to Lawton for me, but I'll vouch for the food. That's some incredibly good grub.

JD and all you OKC guys and gals, you better bring something to fight off all the crickets and bugs if you are planning on sitting in the stands. It gets pretty bad. After all the critters don't have to pay for a car load Saturday, they all get in free.

Coach Stoops at Lawton Speedway, now that would be something.

Mr. Mossman when Ch. 4,5,9,25 and even a couple of others want the inside scoop on OU Football or Athletics in General they interview you for all the info, so I believe that puts you into the Elite/Big Time Status. Swing by cause a visit from Mr. Mossman would be cool.

Just an FYI we have had a pest control company spray twice in the last two weeks to help control our insect issue, so we are trying to fight the problem...see you guys and gals Saturday.
