Haeflin spun on his warm-up lap and again on his 1st officially timed lap.
2006 Wilmot Speedway Champ, VanDerVere loops it out of turn 2 and the front end gets sucked into the wall entering the backstretch on his 1st lap. He was Ok, but the Sprint Car was done for the night.
Weld Wheels Heat Race (8 Laps) Top-5 Transfer to Feature 1. Scott Biertzer [2]; 2. Scott Neitzel [4]; 3. Ty Bartz [1]; 4. John Haeni [6]; 5. Tim Sernett [3]; 6. Steve Meyer [5]; 7. Joe Symoens [7]; 8. Todd King [9]; 9. Robbie Pribnow [10]; 10. Billy Hafemann[11]; DNF-Howie Gleason [8].
Biertzer leads through 3 turns until the Red is displayed after Bartz washes above the cushion entering turn 3, Gleason is sucked into the wall and pirouettes on all fours. He was Ok. Restart: Biertzer into an immediate lead and by Lap-5 the field was single file. Meyer lost his transfer spot early when he loses momentum out of turn 2.
MPD Race Products Heat 1. Kurt Davis [2]; 2. Dave Uttech [1]; 3. Scott Young [3]; 4. Brian Kristan [4]; 5. Tommy Sexton [5]; 6. Billy Balog [6]; 7. Andy Hunt [7]; 8. Jason Johnson [8]; DNF-Russel Borland [10]. DNS-Scott Uttech, DNS-Tim VanDerVere.
Davis lead early over Uttech, Kristan, Young and Sexton. Lap-3: Balog showing signs of engine smoke. Lap-4: Yellow flag for Borland, spins to a stall in turn 3. Borland was done for the heat. Restart: Young takes 3rd out of turn 2. Lap-8: As Young crossed the stripe, a huge fireball erupts from under the car and he was able to coast it into turn 1 and stop. He was Ok, but that was not cool.
VMAC Racing-Lane Automotive Heat 1. Donny Goeden [2]; 2. Mike Kertscher [4]; 3. John Sernett [1]; 4. Kim Mock [3]; 5. Mike Reinke [5]; 6. Billy Warren [7]; 7. David O’Neal [9]; 8. Bill With [8]; 9. Cainen Reimann [10]. DNF-Travis Whitney [6].
Most powerful line-up of the 3 heats. Start: Goeden takes the lead at the drop of green over Whitney, who busted into 2nd by taking Mock on the backstretch and driving deep into 3-4 past Sernett. Lap-2: Whitney is showing signs of engine smoke and by the backstretch, he slows and ducks off the track. By Lap-7, Goeden was in another area code and lapped Reimer for the 2nd time.
Behling Racing Equipment B Feature (12 Laps) Top-9 Transfer. 1. Travis Whitney [2]; 2. Billy Balog [1]; 3. Steve Meyer [3]; 4. Billy Warren [5]; 5. Todd King [9]; 6. Joe Symoens [4]; 7. Jason Johnson [7]; 8. Andy Hunt [10]; 9. Howie Gleason [6]; Bill Wirth [8]; David O'Neal [11]; Robbie Pribnow [12]; Russel Borland [13]; Cainen Reimann[14]; Billy Hafemann [15].
Wirth needs a 2nd push and is moved to the back. The Rookies are all electing to stay at the rear. Start: Whitney immediately back to leading a B Feature (Not only is he defending Champion-He won the most IRA B Features last year too). Balog, Meyer and Warren gave chase. Lap-2: Yellow flag for Pribnow, busts 360 spin in turn 2 and kept it going (inadvertent?). The restart and Whitney in control as Hunt, King, Gleason, Symoens and Johnson change positions several times around the track for a few laps. Depending on what corner, each driver was 9th at one time. Lap-11: Balog takes the lead into turn 1 as he and Whitney split Haeflin. They drag race side-by-side down the back stretch, through turns 3-4 as Whitney takes the win by inches at the line.
Rick Schmidt Memorial A Feature (23 Laps) 1. Steve Meyer [13] $2,300; 2. Travis Whitney [12]; 3. Mike Reinke [6]; 4. Brian Kristan [4]; 5. John Haeni [8]; 6. Mike Kertscher [3]; 7. Billy Warren [20]; 8. Donny Goeden [9]; 9. Todd King [23]; 10. Kim Mock [15]; 11. John Sernett [18]; 12. Kurt Davis [10]; 13. Billy Balog [11]; 14. Howie Gleason [21]; 15. Jason Johnson [22]; 16. Dave Uttech [17]; DNF-17. Andy Hunt [24]; DNF-18. Scott Neitzel [5]; DNF-19. Joe Symoens [19]; DNF-20. Tommy Sexton [7]; DNF-21. Scott Young [14]; DNF-22. Ty Bartz [16]; DNF-23. Tim Sernett [2]; DNF-24. Scott Biertzer [1]. Alternate: David O’Neal. Lap leaders: Mike Kertscher 1-22, Steve Meyer 23.
Start: Biertzer leads Kertscher around three corners and after Kertscher dives low through 3-4, Biertzer slides into the mess and sucks into the wall and suffers from a front end being swung around and catching the fence and taking a slam on all 4 fours and rolls. Biertzer was Ok, but done for the night. Complete restart and Kertscher takes full advantage of his new pole position and quickly disposed of T. Sernett as did Neitzel through turn 1-2. By the end of the opening lap, Kertscher lead Neitzel, T. Sernett, Rookie Contender Kristan and sophomore contender Sexton. Lap-4: Yellow flag is out when Reinke stalls out after tangling with someone in turn 4. Reinke would restart the tail. Under caution, T. Sernett gives up his Top-5 to the work area and pulls pit side soon after. Restart running order: Kertscher, Neitzel, Sexton, Kristan, Haeni, Goeden, Balog, Meyer, Whitney and Davis were the Top-10. Restart: Kertscher and Neitzel are side-by-side down the back stretch as Neitzel takes the lead for a moment out of turn 4, but Kertscher out drags him back to the line. Neitzel is driving way deep into turn 1 to catch Kertscher, but he scrubs speed through the middle, it looks good though. Lap-7: Yellow flag for Bartz, stalls out with his tail tank into the wall out of turn 2. He was towed to the work area, but done for the night. Meyer stops on the front stretch, only as a Safety Check and Per rules, he retains his track position (I think at this lap he was around 6th). Restart: Kertscher opens a small lead over Neitzel again as Meyers takes 5th. Lap-9: Sexton powers into 2nd from Neitzel on the front stretch. Lap-10: Traffic, Kertscher is leading by a straightaway. Lap-12: Young smokes his 2nd engine in turn 1 and coasts all the way around to a stop in turn 4. The Lucky Dog (new this year to IRA Features-the 1st lapped car will be given his lap back and restart at the end of the lead lap cars) was Hunt. Restart running order: Kertscher, then lapped cars of (Uttech)(Symoens)(Johnson) and (Goeden). Then Sexton in 2nd, Neitzel, Kristan, Meyer, Haeni, Whitney, Balog, Davis, Mock rounding out the Top-10. Lap-13: Neitzel retakes 2nd from Sexton when they race each other and dodge those slower cars through turns 1-2. Lap-17: Kertscher was dominating again and the field is slowed when the yellow is out for Sexton, spins just inside the infield off turn 2. Lucky Dog: Uttech. Restart: Neitzel climbs the wheel of Symoens in turn 2 and loses like 3 positions when he corrects his flailing Sprint. Next time around, initially Sexton gets upside down in turn 1 as Hunt is involved. But, over in turn 2-Neitzel, Balog, Symoens and Davis were all tangled into each other in some form as their Sprints were scattered from the wall to the infield. Lucky Dog: Johnson. When all is said and done with that mess, Balog restarts with a torn up right sideboard, Hunt restarts with a front wing torn up. Neitzel and Sexton are both done for the night. Half of the Top-8 starters are scored as DNF now. Lap-18-Restart running order: Kertscher, Meyer, Kristan, Whitney, Haeni, Reinke (from the back), Goeden then Warren. Lap-19: Whitney takes 3rd from Kristan on the backstretch as Reinke motored into 4th as he entered turn 3. Hunt scoots into the infield. Lap-23: Incredible finish, Kertscher has the field covered, all he has to do is drive in down through turns 3-4 when he suffers mechanical/fuel/gremlins and can only watch the checkers go to Meyer as he coasts to a stop just inside of turn 1 infield. Unfreaking-believable.
