Gene Hines, a hardcore and eternal non-winged sprint car fan, and all-around nice old geezer, passed away from natural causes last week in his home in Parker, Arizona. He loved the races, the drivers, the crews, the owners, the sponsors, the tracks, and for sure, the fans. He loved it all. He even named his dog Checkers. From back in the Ascot days, there was hardly a race he didn’t attend and he faithfully followed CRA, SCRA, and USAC/CRA. His presence (and antics) will be sorely missed in the Ralphie Section of the grandstands at the PAS. Godspeed old friend.

Bob,

Sorry to hear that. Gene was a cool guy. He gave my kid his first sponsorship dollar ( Lance still has it ) and even bought him an ovals shirt one year. The Ralphie Section has lost a true sprint car fan.

Those of us that knew Gene have lost a very good friend. He really enjoyed sprint car racing and the friends and fans that attended with him. Having gone to Manzy with him as well as all the years at the PAS, Theresa and I will truly miss him. Rest in peace our friend.

First Red and now my buddy Gene it's hard to loose the ones we love and the ones who we look forward to seeing at every race , most people will never understand the family bond we all share at the race track especially in the Ralphie section. We may not always get along or even like each other but when the green flag fly's we all want the same thing good clean safe racing and when the checkered flag is displayed and the crowd is gone we in the Ralphie section hug each other and say our goodbye's until we meet again at a race track to have fun and do it all again but once again we will be a man short Gene my friend I will miss you and hope that you and Red will start your own section in Heaven I know I will never forget you R.I.P
