Highbanks Speedway lives!
Highbanks Speedway is being brought back to life by a former racer and his father-in-law. Dave Bohannon and Keith Sanders have purchased the 75 acres for $187,000 and plan to cut a new clay track, construct some new buildings and remodel the facility in time for opening on April 2, 2011. Bleachers at the facility will accommodate 5,000 to view the three-eighths mile "dirt" track racing. "We just wanted to invest in the community give the people something to do," said Sanders, who raced at Highbanks, and did pretty well, but does not plan to race when it reopens with himself as part of the track ownership. Sanders, a 1988 graduate of Salina High, said the racetrack was a going concern and failed because the previous owner was going through a divorce and experienced cash flow problems that kept her from keeping the business going. "It was good before and it's going to be better than it ever was," said Sanders.

Don:
Look at the date on the "newspaper" then look
at your 2010 calendar. See anything different?

Does anybody know how to get ahold of the owners? Or does anybody know what the rules are going to be?

According to the Boomer Motorsports program they have a deal w/ Outlaw Motor Speedway to have the same rules. Both tracks reps have confirmed this.

Another new track owner and using father-in-laws money just means another divorce is forth coming. It's a tough business and not one that should involve relatives or their money.
I saw a guy one time buy a track and dig some ponds in the infield for some fountains, he thought he had bought Disney Land. I told him 2 things.
1. He was the first promoter that I had ever seen to dig his own hole to go into.
2. I asked him if he excersised the Houdini rule of business. Houdini never got into anything without knowing in advance how he was going to get out.
I wish them nothing but good luck and clear skies.
