Marshall, MO Late 70's
Thanks to Sportsman's speedway website http://www.sportsmansspeedwaymarshall.com/
Stop by and take a look. I'm not affiliated in any way, just grew up there and saw a lot of great drivers race.

I sure wouldn't know Steve. Thinking about it, this was more likely around 1974 while I was still in high school, so that might help some for those in the know to date better. Marshall always raced on Sunday's, and in the 70's, the evening after the Nationals, Marshall would have a race that brought in a lot of the "big" guys before they went home. I'm pretty sure that's where the picture came from. Lot's of very good local and regional racers frequented the weekly races, but the program after the Nationals was over the top. I'd be interested in anyone having memories of attending the races at Sportsman's Speedway (Saline County Speedway) to chime in. Also, please take a moment to remember Luther Brewer who recently passed on..he was a builder/innovator here in the midwest during this era. Nice thread here...http://www.hoseheadforums.com/forum.cfm?ThreadID=9606

Tom Sanders built that car. It was basically a Bobby Allen car,Tom was a major part in the fabrication of all of bob's cars back then. I may be mistaken, but I believe that was the car that he was about to win the Western Open at Manzy with when he had a valve cover leak put him out.

I am retired from racing after 43 years working on cars. I still live in Tennessee and I am a salesman for Wirtgen America. That was a car that I built in the winter of 1976 for Sammy & Bobby Davis Electric. We won the first three or four races in a row with that car and it won 27 times that year out of 53 races.
I don't get to too many races anymore but it is nice to see fellow racers once in awhile. I had a chance to stop and say hello to Doug Wolfgang this past Monday, it was good to see a great friend of mine and see his family too.

What a thread!
After many years away, I go to Lernerville last week and see Steve, Sammy, and Haud. And this week we have Tommy Sanders on Hoseheads!
Priceless!

Wirtgen no longer sponsers any cars, due to Stu Murray retiring a couple of years ago.

Tommy, thanks for popping on and letting us know what you're up to these days. Any thoughts on a book of your adventures? That would be an amazing read.
Take care.

Tommy good to see your still around. I saw that picture earlier this week and thought of you and wandered what you were doing.
