The COMP Cams Summer Nationals THIS weekend is a great time to come get some practice for the Tootsie Smith Memorial. It's another NO entry fee event but this one is a 2-day show. But that also means MORE laps this weekend!

THIS Friday, July 23rd we'll have an extended practice session from 7PM up till around 9PM depending on car count. Then you'll have an extended 'heat' race that is really more like a short feature or a B-main in length. Each driver will run one race Friday night and it won't be an 8-lap race and you're done. Depending on car count, some classes may have one race and take the top 4 to Saturday's A. Other classes may have 2 races and take the top 2 from each and if the count is really good in a class, it will be 4 races and all the winners will lock in. NO passing points this time. It's draw in and then use the heads-up finishes to set the first two rows of Saturday's A-main and the qualifying races' line-ups. You can enter on Saturday but you'll line-up behind the Friday night cars.

The Limited Modified A-main on Saturday night pays $700 to win and $100 just to start. Friday's pit pass is $25 and Saturday's is $30. If you happen to have a Modified ride too, that pays $2000 to win and $140 just to start. Again...NO entry fee!

Practice for the Tootsie Smith Memorial race will be held at Ark-La-Tex Speedway on THURSDAY night, August 19th! On Friday night, August 20th, Boothill Speedway located just 30 miles south of Ark-La-Tex Speedway will hold a special purse LIMITED Modified race as well. Details TBA. The 3rd Annual Tootsie Smith Memorial will of course pay $3000 to win on NO entry fee and it's a one-day show at Ark-La-Tex on Saturday, August 21st.

The place to have your LIMITED Modified/Southern Sport Mod on the weekend of August 19th through the 21st is Caddo Parish, Louisiana -- the parish in the northwestern most corner of Louisiana (Shreveport)!!!

Modified racing the way it ought to be here! This was filmed by Washburn Racing -- the blue #27 ArkLaTex Sheet Metal Hughes Chassis from the backstretch at Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, Louisiana.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvOAp4bVnUY&feature=youtube_gdata

The driver is Brett Washburn, a young racer who just competed in the SMP Sooner Speedweeks out in OKlahoma and probably gained a half-season's worth of experience in 5 straight nights of racing!

He puts some of it to use in that video from the COMP Cams Summer Nationals Modified A-main Saturday night. Brett has to rally from deep in the pack to a 7th place finish. 33 cars had entered the event over the 2-day show. Note how the cars are running 3 or 4 different lines around the race track. That is what we typically see at Ark-La-Tex Speedway every race. I don't think a lap goes by in this one that Brett isn't in a side-by-side battle with someone. 3-wide several times too. Watch the video and see what I mean....

This Saturday night, August 7th, the Southern Thunder Sprint Cars will be in action at Ark-La-Tex Speedway with their Racesaver 305 full-sized winged Sprint Cars! #16 Koty Adams of Haughton, Louisiana will be going for his 4th straight win over 4 different tracks in the series!

The EZ Rental Limited Modifieds had a great race last time out and this Saturday is the last chance for that class to tune-up under race conditions for their $3000 to win Tootsie Smith Memorial event that happens on August 21st. The track is off on August 14th.

Cya at Ark-La-Tex Speedway THIS Saturday night!

The Tootsie Smith Memorial A-main will pay $200 just to start with a total purse of $9000!

Together with the Friday night purse at Boothill, this is a combined $4000 to win weekend with a combined $300 to start the A-mains, all on NO entry fee! Over $14,000 total purse!

PLUS...

The Tootsie Smith at Ark-La-Tex will also pay:

The Lana Hinton Hardcharger Award: $100

The Back Half Challenge. Pays $100 to a randomly drawn position in the back half of the field. (driver must finish the race to be eligible)

AND being given away:

A full body wrap from Extreme Graphics.

A drum of racing fuel from Fast Fuel.

Gift certificates and/or merchandise (some to non-qualifiers and some to be given away at the driver's meeting) from the following:

Day Motor Sports ~ Smiley's Racing Products ~ Speedway Motors ~ Team 5 Enterprises ~ L&W Autoparts ~ Keith Craft Performance ~ J&J Racing ~ RCI Racing Products ~ TWM Machine Shop ~ Performance Bodies ~ Fast Race Cars ~ Marshall Lube & Auto ~ Extreme Sports Powder Coating

Ask anyone who's been to a previous Tootsie Smith Memorial race, THIS is well worth the trip!!!

Just so there's no confusion here and apparently I either had it wrong or said it wrong to someone up in Oklahoma. Here is the tire rule straight out of the Ark-La-Tex EZ Rental Limited Modified rules:

"13. TIRES/WHEELS: May use 8” Imca type or medium compound Hoosier ‘500’ Race tire. May also
run 8” AR500 or Unaltered Hoosier 2045 pull offs. Tires may be ground or siped within confines of
tread. no grooving allowed. No re-caps. Any offset allowed......."

Now, there used to be a softer Hoosier '500' that Hoosier has quit making. In case anyone has that tire left in their stock, that tire is illegal.

The medium Hoosier 500 is supposed to be the same compound and tread pattern as the American Racer 500.

Sorry for any confusion....

For out of town Limiteds, I've been told anywhere from 6.20 to 6.50 on gear choice depending on how many RPMs you want to turn. Same gear as most Texas 1/4 miles and should work at Boothill too.

Saw this in the Help Wanted ads...

$3000! That's what it pays to win the 2010 Tootsie Smith Memorial. Only Limited Modified RACERS need apply! No experienced required but you might find it handy.

If you can make the cut to be in the final list of 20 applicants, you'll be paid at least $200 for your time and trouble. Up to $6000 to be paid to non-winners. Lots of other compensation and benefits to applicants in the form of prizes and gifts and one applicant who does not make the top 20 will be added as the 21st applicant and will also get at least $200 just for applying!

22nd starting spot? How bad do you want to be paid $3000 for a few hours work? Apply in person between 4 and 7PM Saturday night. Applicant qualifications start at 7:30. Be on time and must provide your own helmet, firesuit, and means of transportation. The faster the better but must mean all applicable laws of Ark-La-Tex Speedway. Although not necessary, guts and a heavy right foot go to the top of the list! Serious inqiuries only.

There were five Oklahoma cars. Three made the A on Friday night at Boothill. None made it on Saturday night.

Ronny Gould (Calera) was 7th at Boothill on Friday night and got dismissed from his B main on Saturday night.

Kyle Slader (Muskogee) made Boothill's A main on Friday as did Matt Winett (Colbert). Matt had a very bad night though. A Factory Stock left the speedway and landed on Matt's tow vehicle. Thankfully, no injuries but his truck was a mess. At Ark-La-Tex the next night, they were giving out long tow money and other awards and asked was the guy who's Dodge truck that had the race car land last night there? They gave Matt another $100 after he was paid $100 the night before for starting the A. Small consolation for his trouble. Then he came up one spot short of making Saturday's $200 to start A-main with his #99X.

Matt Burnett (Muskogee) was there both nights and Travis Johnson (Enid) was there for Saturday.

Results:

August 21st.

3rd Annual Tootsie Smith Memorial A-main finish:

1. 340 Mark Smith $3,000.00 + $200 Lana Hinton Hardcharger Award! Started 14th!

We had 2 cautions. First 20 laps were caution free with grooves from top to bottom. Had the second caution on the restart. Last 10 laps were caution-free too. The field was evenly matched. With 5 to go, Grigsby, Whittington and Hebert at a time or two, were 3 wide off the corners and Smith who had gained 10 spots by then, was looking for a way by all 3. By the checkers he had 2nd and then got the win after the DQ in tech.

Remember, these payouts were on NO entry fee and the pit passes both nights were just $25.

2 69 Derick Grigsby $1000.00
3 511 John Whittington 87 $700.00
4 56 Troy Taylor $560.00
