From the Brainerd Dispatch Newspaper:
Two of the three victims who were injured Wednesday night in the North
Central Speedway crash, were in critical condition Thursday at North
Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
The victims were Keith Nelson, 48, Brainerd, who was the Turn No. 1 flag
man, and Timothy Boeder, 43, Brainerd, promoter of North Central. There
are journals set up for both Nelson and Boeder on the CaringBridge
website at www.caringbridge.org.
According to the CaringBridge website, Nelson is in North Memorial's
Trauma Neuro Intensive Care Unit. The website on Nelson said, "He is
expected to live. He is currently sedated and will be for five more
days. Depending. He has many broken bones to his face including his eye
sockets, cheek bones, nose and jaw.
Boeder's CaringBridge journal said, "Tim was airlifted to North Memorial
Hospital in the cities with head injuries. He is currently in an
induced coma waiting for his CT Scan results to come back."
The third injured party of the crash was James Eblen, 40, St. Cloud, who
was the driver of the car that crashed. Eblen was in good condition at
North Memorial.
The crash occurred about 11 p.m. Wednesday near the pit exit area at the
edge of the track at North Central Speedway, located south on Business
Highway 371 near Barrows.
The crash occurred when Eblen's car apparently went out of control and
hit Nelson and Boeder standing by an access road to the pit area.
Witnesses said two cars in the Minnesota Mod Series race collided,
forcing one of the cars to hit the pit exit wall in the southwest corner
of the track and cartwheel over the walls. The race car came to rest
next to the grandstand.
The Brainerd Fire Department was on the scene assisting North Ambulance
and the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department and the State Patrol also
responded.
