Sooner Two Step

Jimmy Jones, LIBERAL, KS (May 12, 2010) – The Bruce Racing Team returned to ASCS Regional action over the weekend with a pair of Sooner Region stops at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee, Oklahoma and the Springfield Raceway in Springfield, Missouri.

Tony and the Team took the opportunity to do some scouting Friday night at Muskogee. "We thought it was a good idea to come (to Outlaw Motor Speedway) to test and get tuned up for the National Tour show that is there the first weekend in June. So, we took that time to play with some different things on the race car," said Tony.

The test and tune proved to be a great idea as Tony brought the Bruce Racing #18 home in second place.

In heat race action, Tony came from the back of the field and finished 4th. "I was actually all the way up to third, but almost spun out and let a guy back around me. Didn't get us enough points for the redraw, but did get us in the A Main."

Tony, Wayne and Jacob tweaked the car for the A Main, where Tony started 15th. Tony said the car felt as good as it has all year and it showed on the track.

"I had a really good car…started that far deep and got all the way up to second. I think we were running third by five laps into the race. The car was really good but just not good enough to catch Jason Johnson. He got up on top of the racetrack and set sail and that was pretty much about it."

Tony and the Team packed up and moved on to the next night in Springfield, MO for night two of Sooner Region action.

"The track was really good early; started dead last in the heat and finished third…made the redraw and started third. About five laps into the A Main the track started taking rubber so we got in line and finished fourth," said Tony.

Over all, it was once again a solid weekend for the Bruce Racing Team. "So, that was our weekend; finished 2nd at Outlaw and 4th at Springfield. Two more top five finishes…but I would definitely like to finally get in the win column this year."

Tony and Team will be in action again this weekend on Saturday night, May 15th for the 410 local show at the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA.

Tony: There is a 410 show in NW Iowa on Friday night in Rock Rapids (40 minutes southeast of Sioux Falls). $2,500 to win and $400 to start. Open wing and tire rules (I believe). Hope this gets to you and gets up that way on Friday night!
